@nprofile…z0uk but open(libre)office charts are truly awful for any plotting, they're even worse than $ms office. #gnuplot absolutely nails it for for any scientific or engineering data any day of the week.

@nprofile…l9m5 alas probably not! From the front they look the same but now I've only got what I want installed and very little of what I don't. It served me well but I wanted to trim the fat plus consolidate updates with another machine which already runs #gentoo
I also have a fileserver which will stay #slackware for the forseeable future.

Spent the last 24 hours moving my main desktop from #slackware to #gentoo. I'm a few bits and pieces short but I've got a very lean and solid foundation now.
I had no real problems with slackware but it was time for a refresh - although to be honest the process was somewhat tedious and it just feels oddly unsatisfying.
At least it was an appropriately rainy and shitty 24 hours for it, plus I was home to catch my illuminated magnifier before it set the house on fire (charred a cutting board!)

@nprofile…v7v5 I remember being at @nprofile…ml7x 's place in Mexico City trying to make him and his gf (fiance/wife?) a vindaloo. Took forever for the rice to cook @ 2240m, although it was worth it in the end.

@nprofile…hjyu the dev version using manifold is faster, and for some designs it's not remotely close. Probably the best it will get. It uses so many obscure libraries already it's a huge pain to even get it to compile let alone develop on.

@nprofile…qrtm use au keyboard (same as us), no dead keys. The goat here tho, chordic cursors (not "arrows", fastet as u dont have to move fingers) return (not enter). Wore my fingerprints off though. No super meta hyper windows amiga squiggly apple thing alt or "menu" whatever it is. And a pi key.

Why do modern laptop keyboards have a massive CAPSLOCK key that never, ever, ever gets used, and anemic half-sized cursor keys and a stunted space "bar" which all get constant use.

@nprofile…dcm7 Well you pretend to be Microsoft Office, what do you expect? It's an impossible situation TBH. People wont use anything else if it isn't close enough and you can never keep up. Been the same way for 30 odd years once "word processor" or "spreadsheet" became supplanted by those criminals (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Microsoft_Corp.)

Got sidetracked a couple of days ago working on colours. Moved from 4 to "16" colour #Amiga palette (well 12, what a miserable selection) for my default #Emacs theme, and tried making a #C64 theme. The latter doesn't quite work but it's close, too many bleeding colours. I tweaked them for more contrast but tried to keep them true to form. Also built Iosevka many times to try to get a most pleasing typeface and spacing. Also close but the 8 and 0 still look too similar at smaller sizes.

@npub1wst…ez75 I and others are more concerned that they will simply kill the growing fediverse - first they will federate, then they will extend the protocol (perhaps even through the w3c), then they'll not have to worry about the competition due to network effects so they'll just de-federate, or simply charge for access.
They already have their own partially-private internet, the only reason to federate is to kill the nascent competition.
