My wife is funny. She gets stressed at work. Comes home and she’s all keyed up. I suggest she try meditating, she shrugs it off.
I basically force her to do either a headspace meditation or an Apple Fitness meditation.
2 minutes in, she’s always sawing logs. I don’t think she’s EVER reached the point where they say, “in your own time, when you’re ready, you can slowly open your eyes.”

I’ve never figured out WHY I manage to check my watch at exactly half hour increments. I don’t believe there’s any psychic(or whatever) power. And the time on the clock is just arbitrary, defined by man, not based on any “real” so there must be something external. But what?
There are no clocks in the house, no ticking, no chimes, there are no church tower clocks in the area. It’s too far to hear Big Ben in London.

Whenever I’m ill, I tend to sleep a lot, but not at night. Nights are endless misery. In the throes of the sickness because of how badly head congestion gives me earaches and headaches, and when I’m on the mend, just miserable insomnia.
Tonight, my uncanny ability to look at my watch only on the hour or half hour has been machines-like. 12, 1, 1:30,2, 2:30, 3:30…I’m actually on my 3:30 check, and just got up and ate some bologna.

A “comedy” that isn’t very funny, consisting of disconnected scenes with no payoff that are just there to bounce the heroine between one sex scene and the next — except, because it’s a 1960s theatrical film, there are no sex scenes.
It’s also impossible to conceive, based on this performance, that Jane Fonda could ever win an Academy Award.

I’ve been futzing with a utility that allows me to create a top-down sequences of actions, and you can place blocks of actions within conditionals; however, you cannot nest them, and they have no “Else” condition.
Haven’t been this frustrated at program logic since I worked on GOSUB-less BASIC on a TRS-80.

Also, in one of those, "well, I didn't expect that department,” I had banged off an email (also in 2004) to the #TaipeiTimes in response to a letter to the editor.
I was surprised as all hell when it appeared on the editorial page. I can't say my hot take was particularly nuanced, and if there is one thing I can say looking back, Taiwan's public perception has certainly been raised since then, thanks to COVID, China, and TSMC.

Good for the #TaipeiTimes! I was digging under a cedar chest and found a file folder of news articles I’ve printed about myself and/or family. Found two old articles from the Taipei Times and after 20 years, the URLs are still good!

As you say, it’s not the point, and they favor foods that give a suitable presentation, for example, Japanese Curry Rice.
On the trip with family, we just had ice cream. On a previous trip I had a curry.
It was alright, but nothing special. It’s just the novelty of it.

Wifey had a cold the week before our trip and hasn't shaken the cough. Sent her to see a doctor in #Taiwan today.
No appointment or health insurance. A few minutes wait. Diagnosed with bronchitis. Several medicines were prescribed and dispensed. Cost under $22 USD. 30 minutes.
Doctor said to her, “You had a cold and you didn't go to the doctor?”
"No, no one goes to a doctor for a cold in the US. With a $40 copay and having to schedule weeks in advance, what's the point?”
