"All rights reserved" usually would appear in the *published* version of your work, not necessary in a MS for a beta reader. It indicates that the publisher of the book has reserved all other rights, so people who want film rights, magazine rights etc would need to apply to the publisher, and if they agreed to sell, say, the film rights, they would have to OK it with you too.

They are copyright by the fact of your having written them (unless you stole them from someone else). You copyright it by putting your name on it as the author (no need for a formal copyright notice).

In 1963, a sixteen-year-old San Diego high school student named Bruce McAllister sent a four-question mimeographed survey to 150 well-known authors of literary, commercial, and science fiction. We used to have a monthly literary coffee klatsch at a cafe, but it was suspended during the Covid 19 Epidemic, and did not resume after the epidemic because two of the members had died in the mean time (though not of Covid).
