Mine tried at my current company, with encouragement from the VP level. They did a three month trial of Claude and CoPilot last fall. This included direct training from MS & Anthropic in the first month and on call support. At the end of the trial the devs, who went into it excited, presented results.
It was not pretty. They were very neutral in the presentation but the numbers were devastating. At *best* it didn't get in the way. On average it was a huge time/money/quality suck.

I'd add that other ways marginalized people, especially people of color, get targeted is with coded language white people do not recognize by default, then dismissing those who are being targeted as overreacting.
There was also a push to put CW on every photo of, say, police interactions. For the comfort of a largely white audience.
There are a lot of ways to socially degrade a group, and the largely white and EU Mastodon hits many of them.

I mean we don't, the point of Flatpak is to only have one system, and devs only have to target one platform to reach all distros. Snap is proprietary and I ignore it. Flatpak is not. AppImage is a great idea but with a maintainer who isn't interested in, well, maintaining.
Distro packaging is both not a scalable approach and is poor practice from a security perspective. Every app and every update is a potential supply chain attack, and the apps themselves are not sandboxed.

I've used Gear Lever for a while, but unfortunately the lead of the Appimage project refuses to update for Fusev3 so eventually support for the format will end in most distros as Fusev2 is considered unmaintained and a potential security vuln. I know Fedora has been discussing dropping it.
That said, Flatpaks are nice these days and my preferred format. I avoid .rpm/deb/etc as installing apps with root permissions is poor security.

I remember being annoyed at the constant breathless tech industry wailing about a supposed running out of IPv4 addresses when it was always obvious they'd just get more sophisticated with NAT.

Thank you for the update. Most board tracking sites seem to still list Kevin as a board member, so that's stale data. It's also good to see that A16Z is mostly gone, I guess with Substack they don't need Medium anymore.
Any changes regarding labor practices? That is the other primary complaint about Medium in general.

I mean, Andreeson has always been an ancap, I knew people who worked with him in university. He didn't change.
For much of Medium's history, the VC representative to the board was Ben Horowitz, of Andreeson-Horowitz. Currently the VC spot is held by Kevin Thau, of Spark Capital.
I agree that Medium is better than substack, but I get why people don't like it and I'll generally choose content on other platforms when possible. Their union busting activities alone are enough to stay away

It's funny to me how people keep buying into this idea that it will actually be decentralized when in reality that needed to be baked in from the very beginning to have any chance of being viable. It will likely always be an 'on paper' decentralized network but in reality, tightly controlled like every other corp social network.

To be clear I want Framework to succeed, but the support situation is not great as it stands. They have repeatedly pledged to improve but to date they really haven't substantially. I've received multiple firmware updates on my 2019 Dell XPS13 every year including this year for every security/compatibility issue Intel and other vendors have issued advisories for.
FW needs to match this.

This is a problem for me as well. And not a small size either. I love ice cream so much that I try to always keep my distance. People sometimes ask why I spend more for smaller sizes and it's due to the fact that I have no portion control with ice cream.

These old men will be replaced by new old men, who will carry forward the same or worse policies. If you aren't willing to fight the old men of today you won't be willing to fight the old men of tomorrow. That they will die is a non sequitur and addresses nothing.
I'm not saying we are doomed, I'm saying the time to fight is today, yesterday, and tomorrow.

The idea that the younger generations will save us is as time honored a belief as is the inevitable disappointment when not only do they fail to do so, they actively contribute to the problems.
GenX now votes Republican, the alt-right is millennial driven, and GenZ is already tilting rightward.
We have to confront the issue head on, not wait for some imaginary time when they may die off with no replacements. Otherwise we will be doomed.

Using the ansible project you linked me a while back I deployed Matrix last April and even managed to integrate it with Authentik for SSO with my other self hosted cloud apps. I've got a bunch of friends/family on there and it's been a great experience.
