RE: https://fosstodon.org/@mobian/116738665721828739
Very happy to see all the work on upstreaming #sdm845 patches and improvements paying off, and even happier that users can benefit from it so easily through Mobian. Huge thanks to @npub1ua9…sk4k for making these updates available!

Oh yes — C-PHY support is finally landing for Qualcomm on #mainline 🚀
Progress for upstream mobile Linux, and the patchsets are shaping up to hopefully hit mainline repositories very soon.

🚀 Big milestone for the SHIFT 6MQ!
Just got it running through dockstation with:
✔️ keyboard
✔️ mouse
✔️ ethernet
✔️ ...DisplayPort output 🎉
Full external display support is now working, thanks to some hands-on implementation and a few extra patches on top of sdm845 Linux.
Plug it in, and you’ve got a proper desktop experience.
Running: https://codeberg.org/sdm845/linux + few custom patches which I'll try to finish today.

Got the camera working — then gave it focus. Always focus 😉
SHIFT6mq now has proper 📷 focus, and it finally feels usable.

On a bit of a streak today 🔥
Work in progress, but already a big milestone: the camera sensor on my SHIFT6MQ is up and running 📷
Still a lot to refine, but seeing the first photo come through feels great. Sharing the very first shot taken on mainline Linux with it 👇

First picture from the dual front-facing IMX355 sensors on #Pixel3 📸
Both lenses are now alive under mainline Linux — standard + wide, just like Google intended. Still early bring-up, but seeing real images come through makes it very real.

I used this feature of FUTO keyboard on Android, so it's great to see it on Phosh/GNOME too! I love it so much!
I recently tried Speed of Sound app, while great app, the tight integration as shown here is missing there.

Apple Wallet passes on Linux — getting better.
Mobile Linux support has been pretty weak. My favorite app [ https://github.com/pablo-s/passes ] had a few rough edges.

What works today: read & import vCards from NFC tags, and detect any tag read — great for verifying your hardware is actually enabled. It's early but real. Contributions and feedback very welcome — let's make Linux NFC happen! 🏷️ 2/2

Ever wanted to use your phone's NFC reader on Linux? Now you can — right from GNOME! I built a minimal NFC app using neard and D-Bus — no hacks, no proprietary drivers. Just run the daemon, tap a tag, and it works. 👉 https://gitlab.gnome.org/dh/gnfc/ 1/2 #nfc #LinuxMobile #MobileLinux #Mobian #NixOS #postmarketOS

Sent the display notch cutout description file for the MacBook Pro (M2 Pro, 14").
It would be nice if, at some point, the GNOME desktop (e.g., Mutter/GNOME Shell) could work with this information and adjust UI elements accordingly. Soon, there will be more and more devices with display cutouts.
There’s already amazing work by Phosh e.V. on this, so hopefully feature parity will come soon!

I’m looking for help funding a MacBook M2 Pro (~€1300). My Dell starts throttling seconds into kernel builds, making daily compiling and testing of an arm64 code painfully slow. Faster hardware = less waiting, more upstream work for everyone 🐧❤️
I’m ready to fund it myself, but knowing people care by contributing would really mean a lot. This is non-profit work, funded from my own pocket + LiberaPay (~€7/week).

Today we sat down with Petr Hodina and managed to:
1. Get a stability patch improving #sdm845 stability sent upstream to -next (already merged today).
2. Determine that the display driver on the Xiaomi Poco F1 (Tianma panel) was crashing the kernel.
3. Enable basic framebuffer support for the Poco F1 and disable the Display Clock Controller (dispcc & mdss) for the Tianma model to prevent crashes and loss of display.

on OnePlus 6 / 6T comparable to Android. There is still some room for an improvement, so when everything will be done, probably longer than Android.

hearing massive security overhaul in combination with huge codebase as Linux kernel sounds very risky when done by small team.
Would you consider at least trying to work with Linux community on these? I believe also people from big corps as Red Hat etc. would appreciated progress and could be helpful in this area outside of mobile world.
Rust situation in kernel also slowly improves.

I should mention we’re adding new bug-fix patches, but as upstreaming continues, we expect the number of downstream-carried patches to drop significantly with each new -next tree tag.

2025-11-19 22:01:13 UTC

How’s the upstreaming using the Linux next branch going?
👷 Rebasing and testing patches is going great! We’ve got the basic functionality working on #OnePlus6 and #OnePlus6T (though it’s still unstable).
👀 Many patches have been sent upstream for maintainer review.
❗Some patches in the -next tree are still causing trouble.
📈 But bisecting is pretty efficient now, so we’ve already reported the issues we’ve found in -next to the devs.

Three years ago, I experimented with introducing automated build testing for RISC-V in Linux GPU drivers. Back then, it was a bit hacky due to the older Debian version used in CI [ https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/merge_requests/19917 ]
Recently, Mesa3D CI was upgraded to Debian 13, which supports RISC-V out of the box — and we’ve already been testing basic RISC-V builds for the past two days!

First successful boot of the U-Boot bootloader on the #Pixel3XL !
Since I don't have a USB-C serial cable, this is the on-screen output—though the display driver isn’t ready yet.
U-Boot can be controlled using the power button (OK) and volume down button (DOWN).
This also paves the way for proper mainline support for the device, as the previously required hacky Linux kernel revert is no longer needed to boot the #Pixel3 / 3XL.
