Btw There are greasemonkey scripts to remove the ads in the browser. But not having an app to use on the phone is probably the worst. I usually have idle time when on the go.

I think something very annoying about #mastodon is there isn’t a universal rich text format. I have better control of the look of text in #iMessage…
I guess it isn’t an easy thing to fix. Even declaring a bunch of html tags are ok would run into other limitations like post sizes being limit to 500 characters. It’s an endless onion of things that would need to get tweaked so I can make something <b>bold</b>?

It’s been a while since I’ve been in Germany, but you used to be able to buy cough drops with codeine without a prescription. Really helped me get through an Oktoberfest when I had a cold.
Was those cough drops with breakfast and sightseeing… then starting with lunch I’d transition to beer until about midnight when I’d pass out.

It’s amazing how good this #iOS 27 beta is. It’s more stable and clean looking… and fewer bugs than iOS 26.5.1 that I installed just 9 days ago.

There is an actual method called “Envelope of Safety” where they check to make sure there is room for the longest arms to reach out. (See attached pic of it being used to test a different ride).

These are likely “pimple patches”. Search on Amazon and the majority are clear so you can’t see them. They will completely blend into the skin. You need to be about 1-2 ft away to see them.
But a new trend is making them highly visible for camaraderie…

I don’t know if that is a fair comparison. For example I might drop a BryanMail app that does it all and you pay once $19.99. But September comes and now there is a folding phone, and it isn’t Liquid Glass it’s now just “solid glass”. A framework for doing something (like accessing contacts) changed along with some other 💩.
Do I update everything and release BryanMail27 with the new look and features and leave BryanMail original to continue until Apple drops framework compatibility at some random date in the future? Or do I keep updating the original app adding features even if few new purchases happen? A little of both?
What’s the best way to make money but insure my users are satisfied? 😬

Would you pay for per use? Like would you rather subscribe to an email app to unlock advanced features like complex sorting or would you prefer the app does everything but you need to buy “gems”. Sending an email cost 4 gems, replaying costs 2 gems, and sorting an incoming email costs 1 gem?
Maybe 1000 gems costs $1.
As I write iOS apps I’m always trying to figure out what is acceptable to people for monetization.

Ad team was in Santa Clara.
Edit: I was at yahoo in 2011. Long after the big Broadcom cash out!

Yeah, when I left NASA to do startups, it was definitely much more fun and less serious. 😂
Speaking of people not showering… When I was at Yahoo there was a coworker that smelled so bad he was sent home multiple times to clean himself and change his clothes. He’d try to just go home and spray Axe body spray and return… it was so so bad. They’d just send him home again. I hope it wasn’t that bad at Audionet!

They were already mostly stripped for parts like memory. I declined to take one. I was happy with my Sun UltraSPARC II with 512MB of ram (max was 2GB). The Indigo maxed at 384MB.

Yahoo was such a :dumpsterfire: of a company. I worked on the ad platform. Yahoo wanted to save money so they closed the Burbank (or ???) office in Southern California. The entire Hadoop team for ads was down there and Yahoo told them to move to Florida. They all refused. Yahoo fired them all. The pipeline for ads broke daily for years after. Every outage screwed up ad spend for campaigns. We were responsible for 30-40% of revenue! So many millions were lost. I left after 4 months. They made our team (before I left) remove the dashboard that showed revenue lost/gained because it made executives look bad. 😂

I don’t like #hockey, but as a fan of #reddit r/prematurecelebration, I totally enjoy these Canadian YouTube and Instagram channels just completely trash-talking and then posting their reactions to the game where they lost to the US. It’s so satisfying, and I also don’t even care about the sport!
The #Olympics are just kind of magical. I guess back to 4 more years of never thinking about hockey.

Fixed so many problems today and created some new ones. Timeline positioning is a very annoying problem but needs to be perfect; otherwise, the app feels like 💩.
Getting gestures just right is painful.
I can tell some key features I want are going to be a pain to implement.
I should try to live toot as I work now that I spilled the beans.
I just gated premium features and didn’t finish so I can’t post from it now. Also it still doesn’t have a name. 😑

Did Canada actually touch the stone beyond the line? I’ve read several articles, but I haven’t seen a video that provided a close-up view from multiple angles, similar to how they do for an NFL game. Regardless, the self-regulation by players seems absurd. Can’t they really have a referee constantly monitoring and reviewing the video? 🤨

That’s what I mean by self-regulation of the rules. Basically, now everyone will be poking the stones. Players can’t be allowed to just yell that they are playing an honest game when they clearly are not. This is what ruins a sport.
Should be an automatic removal of all their own stones from the board. I don’t see any other way to penalize.

Even when they are unable to sell ads, there is a commercial break, and they show a generic NBC Olympics tile. Last night, I watched South Korea vs. Estonia Curling 🥌. Zero ads. But the break, looking at nothing, would still cut off the first two stone throws. Just maddening.
The app is totally broken. On my iPad, once I select a stream, I can’t leave. The entire app has to be killed. The little close button doesn’t respond at all. Just super basic parts of the app don’t work at all. Yesterday, I was able to watch fine in Safari. Today, 100% redirect to this junk app.
