On another note, and I'll make this very brief because I've been an emotional mess, Monday morning is the time to call the vet. Esmeralda took a turn for the worse. She isn't doing okay. It's probably time to say goodbye. Labored breathing, pudgier tummy (could be cancer, if that's what she has), being uncomfortable and lethargic, not having an appetite, lungs sound weird, etc. I can't stand the sight of my little baby obviously in distress and pain, but my vet's office isn't open on the weekends. It's been hell.

Stark features, seafoam green eyes, tall and lean. When he’s angry, his eyes will turn a stormy, steely gray (which is the way with vampires, their eyes changing color). His hair is curly and silver, his eyebrows are dangerous and expressive, and he looks every bit the gentle, charismatic, charming vampire that he is.
While he always tries to do his best, he might sometimes fail at it. He isn't perfect, and would never claim to be, and he hates whenever he gets things wrong. He's a writer, an artist, and can play piano, so his long-fingered hands are often moving about as he speaks. He's expressive in every way. He can be rather silly when he wants to be, incredibly loving and tactile, and yet rather ruthless when the moment calls for it as well.

No one *truly* knows how old Isma is. And no, he doesn't act his age. He never has. I'll leave some dialogue down below. It was from a conversation between Alistair and Eleanor, his maid. They're rather close friends at this point.

“I’m quite sure, yes,” he responded. “He spoke of them often. I’m not entirely sure how long he had been alive at that point, or if he was bloodbound or not. I only know he was alive, whether a vampire or not. His name is Isma. He’s a callus, cruel man. I separated myself from him long ago. He’s a murderer, and an old world vampire. He’ll never change.”

(There are multiple parts to this one, at least for me.)
1. Did they choose this profession for themselves or were they pressured into it by someone else?
Alistair *chose* to be an author. No one else forced him to do it. He needed a creative outlet, same as with his art.
2. If they chose it for themselves, why did they do it?
He has a lot of memories and stories to share. There are things he can weave into his plots along the way, memories or things that organically develop into the plot and help the story progress. He has a lot of experience to draw back on. Aside from that, he’s a naturally creative person. Writing fiction is *fun* for him.
3. Regardless of how they got into this profession, do they enjoy it?
He still enjoys it, no matter how much has passed him by. He always will. Like I said, writing is a fun activity for him.
4. If they were not in this profession, what would they be doing instead?
If he wasn’t an author, he would be a full-time artist. He’s a rather talented artist as it is, but he rarely ever sells or even shows off his work. It’s just a hobby for him.

I’ll include an excerpt that explains things better than I ever could. At this moment this takes place, Alistair and Fenella have just learned the information we’re discussing. It’s also a favorite scene of mine, featuring Duncan and Fenella. Alistair has just stormed out of the room.

#WritersCoffeeClub 1.6 — Process-wise, what’s improved for you over the years?
My editing process is much easier. It's simpler as well, only because I know what needs to be there and what doesn't when it comes to short stories or chapters. I've gotten rather good at adding in those little "vivid verbs" that enrich our writing for readers as well. For the first round of writing, I just get the words out, and then everything else can be added in later, like those particular verbs, for instance. It's much easier than racking my brain the first time around.
To be honest, though, everything feels easier and better. I suppose that just comes with age and experience.

Oh, gosh. I track *everything* I do, although I'm sometimes known to be a pantser as well. I'm a bit of both.
"Pantsers are writers who creates their work without a detailed outline, often writing "by the seat of their pants." This approach allows them to develop their story organically, relying on their ideas, themes, or characters as they write, rather than following a pre-planned structure. In contrast, a "plotter" is someone who outlines their work before writing."
I'm a bit of both, but I *always* track everything I write, even if the outline isn't so detailed, and if an idea randomly comes to me, I try to write everything down for it (although it might be after the fact).

So many of my friends have already said fantastic things. I have something to add, though, and it's a POV that I enjoy reading and writing.
Third Person Omniscient POV: The narrator has full knowledge of all characters' thoughts, feelings, and the story's past and future, enabling a god-like perspective. While less common in modern novels, it is used in classic literature and genres requiring a broad narrative scope.
I wish more people would bring this one back.

I've written Alistair, Fenella, and Duncan with friends (and my girlfriend) over the years. I love collaborative writing. I probably came up with the idea of Alistair maybe twelve years ago. The story (as in my current WIP) wrote itself. It was a challenge I gave myself for October.

Sorry for the absence in a #PennedPossibilities prompt last night. It was a crazy day and night. My whole family was over, and despite my nana's foot being broken, we still cooked a 22 lb turkey and a lot of the sides. Absolute madness, I tell you. I'm assuming my other American friends were just as busy, so it was probably for the best that we skipped a night.
Back to our normal schedule tonight, I promise.

• Not having a perfect first draft.
• Partaking in sinister, arcane rituals for inspiration.

The urge to rant on here just about the writing community in general is slowly eating away at me. No writers are better than others, not in any way. We're all just writers, published or unpublished, and I'm sitting here saying this as someone who has actually published their work. It doesn't matter. If you write, you're a writer. Period, end of. No such thing as a blunderer, bumbler, non-professional (or amateur, even) writer. Again, you're a writer. Whether it's a hobby or you're making money from it, whether you write fun fanfiction or original work, yeah, you're still a writer. It's an even playing field, and everyone should be equals.
Sorry. Thanks for hearing me out. Maybe one day I'll go more in depth about this. But if there's one thing about the #WritingCommunity here it's this: 98% of the writers on Masto are wonderful, lovely to chat with, as friendly as could be, and very talented. They're my friends. The other 2% are awful, conceited, holier than thou, and need a reality check. Spread more love. Everyone deserves it, and so do you. You get what you give.

Update: My nana's doing well. We're down to a routine now as she heals from the fractured foot. The swelling has gone down, we're still icing, and the walker is helping her a ton. Things are looking up.

Tonight, I copied over and saved my Penned Possibilities and Word Weavers prompts for Wings of Quiet Longing. I'm hoping to somehow use some of them in upcoming chapters, either for insight or some of the dialogue. We'll see. Fingers crossed. I think that would be a rather fun thing to try and do.

Fucking hell. We just had a huge fire in my medical building. It wasn't just a drill, which the infusion nurses first thought. A nurse and I stayed behind to help the patients with IVs in, just so they could get out. We held their doors, carried their belongings and all that. It took an extra ten minutes. I'm very lucky I didn't have an IV in just yet. I was right about to get it.
Eventually, I got outside (and it was raining) just as the firemen passed me and headed into the building. Five damn firetrucks and a lot of firemen. I saw my nana on my sidewalk, panicking as she looked around for me. I waved my arms at her, headed her way, and finally had a moment to decompress.
It was big electrical fire, apparently. Not only that, but it was the section right next to my infusion therapy area. That was terrifying. Too much excitement for the door. My blood pressure probably skyrocketed. But I'm finally getting my infusion therapy done now.

I'm so happy you loved that very timey wimey line. I couldn't resist. You know me. I just had to put *something* in there, and that fit perfectly.
Random but I wrote this chapter this morning and *never* intended for him to tell her that he was a vampire, but the words just flowed. As did the explanation for being "bloodbound," that it actually means you're bound to the blood. I love that term... It's otherworldly as far as explanations go and also so different from other vampire stories.
I'm glad you loved the tiny lore dump about Isma and Duncan, too. It's the first time Duncan is being mentioned, I think. And *those* writers being mentioned as well, yeah, that was cool to write in. Isma is sooooo old. He's an "ancient," as I'm calling them in the story. That term will come up later.

He's a *kind* man, and the rest doesn't matter. He would want to be remembered for the good he's done in Moray, Scotland. He donates to so many organizations, fundraisers, helps the poor, and helps where he can. He takes the best care of his servants as well. They're more like family. That's how he would want to be remembered, for being a kind-hearted, loving man.

He does have enough money, and everything is exactly as he wants it. His room is decorated in shades of blue, and he spares no expense when it comes to his comfort (or the comfort of his servants). There's a beautiful closet, a dresser, a gorgeous bed, a nook to read in, etc. He also has a coffin in the corner, which is just as plush and cozy as the bed is as well.
And before you ask, there is *one* mirror as well. Vampires cannot be seen at all. Unlike in other tales, however, their clothes CAN be seen. You just can't see their skin and their own body. I never understood why their clothing suddenly disappears as well. I wanted to write something *different* for my readers.

He's a disgusting vampire, as dark as they come, and twisted and evil in a myriad of ways. Secondly, of course, we also have Duncan to discuss. He's the only man Alistair sired, and he regrets it every single day. He's even worse than Isma.

Fear. He would have to let go of his fear and admit how he *really* feels to Fenella. His goal has two parts: to keep her safe AND to be hers again. Fear is holding him back. She begged him not to ask anything more about her situation. She's hiding the truth from him. How is he supposed to keep her safe when she refuses to let him help her?

@nprofile…63wg Thank you, love. I really, really appreciate that. I'm so overwhelmed today. Yesterday as well. I think I got everything fixed. It turned out to be my doctor's office denying the meds. It was never the insurance company that did it. I'm praying they fixed it. I spent an hour on the phone with everyone, trying to figure it out, and eventually got an angel on the phone who said she would send it via "priority" to the doctor's office.

I have to call my insurance company later when I'm home to find out why they denied a medication for me, write up a blog post for my podcast episode, shared it here, then write, edit, and post a new chapter, and do a few other things.
GOOD GOD.
All of this after some grocery shopping. Let's not. I also found out that this medication that was denied is very dangerous to randomly stop taking. I could have seizures and shit, and I'll seriously detox from it.
