depends on the reasons for underdeveloped cognitive abilities. If it is due to brain damage / old age, not much you can do, but in most cases it has to do with lack of foundational skills and knowledge.

not sure if it is related, but I think this may have to do with how we've been conditioned to see people in black and white labels and quickly filter them.
Somewhere in the first few sentences with a stranger, you will likely hear some sort of challenge to one ideology or another.
I don't know how it happened, but that seems to be protocol these days.
If said person disagrees with our test, we can ignore them and move on, saving energy for someone that might agree with us.

I dunno. I've never gone out to chat with others to just find a random group. Usually it's been to find the developers or active / pro users of various software.
I know of no good general purpose #SubGenius channels, but I have attempted to create one on matrix.org.

You can search for rooms in most Matrix clients, and see the member counts of the rooms. That would be a reasonable indicator of activity I think.

Remember how empty #ActivityPub was just a few years back? Thanks to all the people coming along to use it, it has grown, developed, and improved significantly.
Stuff like #Matrix is in the early days, but over the past few years, it has been polished and improved substantially.
If you tried it before, but that was a while ago, perhaps try it again.

Pretty good overview of JPEG XL, and how Google has basically attempted to kill it off by removing support from Chrome -- totally not an anti-competitive decision, as they created WebP, etc.
