I feel like it's just plain blaming the victims, tbh. Like, being in a gay relationship was illegal and would potentially lead to very real harm before the 60s. (And technically after, but y'know.) But that's the fault of the state and of homophobic society. Same here. It's just saying, "you'll regret having a relationship because of what I'm going to do to you." Cop logic. I don't want young people to be harmed for being in intergenerational relationships, obviously, but it's not at all their fault or their partner's if harm is inflicted on them from the state or bigots, particularly if they are trying to mitigate risk.
That all being said, I do think that patriarchal society needs to be destroyed in order for the systemic oppression and risk to be abolished. But it would be individualist to blame folks who are just trying to make lemonade out of some seriously sour lemons

The reason I say that contact discourse seems like a psyop is not because it is unimportant. It's clearly an important line of demarcation now. But "now" is the operative word. It really doesn't seem to me that the notion of anti-c gains an ideological status until incredibly recently. I could be wrong, but at least the overwhelming majority of map activism has been pro-c, and that only in function because "pro-c" was the frankly obvious position to maps and to young people involved in the movement.
Charting this course, it seems like anti-c comes about around much the same time as the reactionary, overdetermined, sex-negative version of consent. A version of consent that, coincidentally, happens to reinforce the young person's status as property of adults and the state. I'm not out here saying it's a traditional conspiracy, but I at least think anti-c ideology is an organic consequence of uncritically and irrationally accepting the state's definition of consent and, therefore, of paedophilia. Because really, who needs feds when you have puritans?

These are only half-formed thoughts, but like, some of the books and essays I've been reading speak to a point that I don't think gets clarified enough in conversations about mapness and youth sexuality. The authors deliberately use "the erotic (dimension)" to refocus the conversation on the broader matrix of denial going on. Maps don't just want to have sex with kids. We want the option of having erotic relationships with young people, period. That can be romantic, it can be physically and/or emotionally intimate, and it *can* also be sexual. (We aren't here to shame desiring sex.) But more to the point, it's about being able to express the same, natural range of desire, of social closeness, of love, that we afford adults. It's about not reducing the fullness of what young people can be.
I love that they understand the erotic the way I do, the way Audre Lorde does, because that cursed fucking mindset of immediately cutting Eros down to heteronormative fucking is so pervasive even among queers. No, I want to be a LESBO with young people. I want to serenade them and nuzzle them in the sunlight and pour over how beautiful they are to gas them up while we lay on a hilltop with flowers. Bitch

"So some of what I have learned so far is that hard candy possession laws actually made contact offences go up and that there is substantial evidence to suggest that people engage with such content as an outlet, rather than such content motivating them to commit irl crimes. A young person can end a map's life in an instant because pedos are the sacrificial lamb of the bourgeois nuclear family. We reveal the fact that young people do have agency as well as valuable inner lives worth taking seriously. And since young'ns are property of parents and the state, their consent cannot mean anything.
Their yes or no are both invalid because their will is irrelevant. The decision has already been made. And when we get to decide how they really feel, how they are *allowed* to feel, then it's hardly surprising that real sexual abuse of youths is such a problem. Adults have already agreed to consider love as rape. That's why maps aren't allowed to love youths, but step-fathers and priests are allowed to rape them. Rape is an intentional assertion of supremacy over another, an abuse of power. Love is an assertion of equality and mutual care. Youths would have to not be property for love to make any sense"

I believe that children should be able to vote, especially on decisions that impact their lives. For example, all youth education should be democratic with student unions. I believe young people do matter as political agents and society should be restructured entirely in order to accommodate a comprehensive reintegration of kids into society. We should also socially allow young people to resolve disputes without the interference of adults.
Young people's education should be reintegrated into social production and reproduction, rather than acting as a de facto prison of academic abstraction and discipline. Revolutionary education should also include teaching young people self-defence and organizing principles. Residential living should be completely restructured in order to grant young people the readily accessible ability to leave their home if it has become inhospitable or undesirable and community care and interdependence should take priority over the immediate, biological family.
Young people should receive an income so they can have some amount of financial independence as long as money or token replacements are a thing. Third spaces should be rebuilt and spread far and wide. Young people should not have to hide at home because nowhere is accessible to them. This would include community centres, art collective spaces, parks with equipment and/or gear for activities. Young people should use their organizing abilities and unions and groups in order to facilitate their own community projects with full social support. Any space where young people find it useful to assert autonomy, they should be able to coordinate activities amongst themselves.
I do talk about these things. A lot. And so do many people in my circles on pedi.
Edit: AND young people should be given direct information about any medical procedures to be performed on them, the same way doctors tell the parents now

None of the following is about whether or not existing laws should change. This is purely a pet peeve of mine:
Straight up, there is a difference between intergenerational love and lovemaking on one side and SA on the other. The conflation comes from the bizarre Western idea that sex is inherently bad (despite adults clearly not feeling that way with one another), not from actual, scientific observation. Foucault pointed out that this shit goes as far back as the ancient Greek philosophers, who believed that erotic life is a corrupting force and that there is a threshold before which all eroticism is bad. This is nonsense, and we've known it is nonsense since at least fucking Freud.
What the data *do* show is that coerced and non-coercive erotic encounters, unsurprisingly to anybody not huffing fumes, have opposite outcomes in terms of harm and perceptions of harm. Who'da thunk it! On top of that, antis treat it like a forgone conclusion that young people can be coerced (and harmed) into seeing themselves as victims of loving encounters. Munchausen by proxy? Totally believable and understandable. Some parents just do that because they're unwell! Breaking a kid's confidence and contentment down until they crack and see themselves as broken for having experienced the wrong kind of love? Impossible! Balderdash! And how dare you victim blame the victim (of parental mental and emotional abuse)!
