Usage of GenAIs in most cases means you will run into "Use it or lose it". If you don't use parts of your brain you will RELY on GenAIs to do it. Learn how to learn instead of renting out parts of your brain to things like ChatGPT.

@nprofile…nuu0 Honestly I didn't really care about Switch 2 getting more expensive because I started saying Screw Nintendo at the games getting more expensive and them asking $10 IIRC for a glorified tech demo.

@nprofile…nz6q If my area wasn't so car centric I would love to walk to certain places because it isn't THAT far of a walk. Unfortunately I am the U.S. so a lot of places are car centric, so I don't think it is safe to walk even though the distance isn't that far.

@nprofile…nz6q The more I think about it the more convenience while GOOD in some cases it can be better either mentally or physically to ignore it. Like taking the stairs instead of an elevator when reasonable means you are a little more active which is healthier.
I have been trying to do things even though inconvenient to make things better for myself like finding and using stuff that is more privacy focused which is hard these days.

I am surprised at not only how many people still use Facebook despite the fact Zuckerberg is known to do what he wants with user data and is probably lobbying for whatever he wants, but also the fact that so many local businesses I can only see a tiny bit about their business if anything without using Facebook. Some of them have a website, but to see events going on there you need to use Facebook.

@nprofile…cy5p These days "Smart" devices feels like 1 of 2 things "A ticking time bomb waiting to suddenly require a subscription" and/or "A spying device collecting as much data as it can to sell"
And in the special case of a certain smart mattress brand I can't remember the name of "Overheats when AWS goes down" lol.

@nprofile…nuu0 At least with the context of Nintendo I think it helps to separate the art from the artist in a way.
There are the devs that make the games and then the corporation that is Nintendo. You can say you like Mario Wonder for example, but still dislike the way Nintendo operates when it comes to pricing and stuff like that.
The way I see it too a truly bad person wouldn't care if what they do is bad or not. If you have any sort of guilt over what you do you are at least decent to me.

@nprofile…nuu0 That's fair. Sorry if it felt like I was saying you should feel bad for liking Nintendo games. It's just Nintendo hits a sore spot for me when they seemed like the not greedy option for a while and then succumbed to the greed. While greed is something I have developed a real disdain for while struggling through the job market.

@nprofile…nuu0 I grew up with Nintendo as well. When I was born my dad had a SNES and N64, so that was always there.
I supported Nintendo up until Switch 2 which felt like the final straw between subscriptions, more DLCs, games being more mainstream and not really feeling like the series, and to top it all off a paid manual and $70/$80 games starting with Switch 2, so I just quit and started committing to indies. It helps I was unemployed for a while too, so money was harder to come by.

@nprofile…nuu0 I used to love Nintendo games, but I think at this point it would take a lot for them to get my respect again. Just too many greedy actions with their games for me to respect them now.
I still think old Nintendo games are amazing, but I just can't support modern Nintendo. Then again I try to limit my support of any corporation and support indies when I can.
I am going to buy games on GOG or Itch.io when I can over Steam, but will still use Steam if there is a game only there.

@nprofile…nuu0 You're good. I took your statements as "GenAI is bad, but I care A LOT more about DRM than I do GenAI" which is a fine to take to have. Especially since DRM leads to people being able to take away the things you bought and paid for and is bad for art in it's own way like how GenAI is bad for art in it's own way.

@nprofile…nuu0 That's fair. Since at least with No DRM you keep what you bought and paid for. I will have to look more into GOG since I can understand your pure hatred for DRM. Not to mention Steam may go into GenAI too and if you buy from Steam you are stuck with Steam unless you pirate or buy on another platform.

@nprofile…nuu0 I like the concept of GOG, but worry abOut it's future after it came out on job postings that GOG is pushing GenAI use on employees. Though I don't know if Steam is going to be much better since IDK what is going on with SteamGPT. That's why I plan on sticking to Itch.io when I can.

@nprofile…6xt6 That's why I go indie. To me it feels the worst when games are $70+ and that's BEFORE Microtransactions and DLCs. It feels like it's all for money with Big Corporations. That's against the company not neccesserily the devs though.

@nprofile…nuu0 This is a big reason I mainly use Itch.io for my projects. Not to mention it feels like Steam is pushing AAA projects so hard on the main pages even if I set it to ignore dev/publisher on a ton of AAA devs.
Good DRM is No DRM because we should own what we pay for.

@nprofile…nuu0 Does mailserver mean you host your own email domain too? I have been curious about self hosting a website. I don't currently know the best way to get a domain and stuff to be able to self host preferably without relying on companies to not change things to get more money.

@nprofile…nuu0 A lil' bit of jank can be fun to experience in a game. Like hitboxes or physics acting weird in small spots. It's almost like there is a balance between too much jank and not enough jank.
Another fun bit of "jank" is when games aren't perfectly balanced, so you find really OP combos.

@nprofile…xf2f Do you even need to share Itch.io logins to pirate games? Doesn't Itch.io just give you the game files, so you can distribute them to people directly instead of giving a login. Big oof, but at least you can see how many downloads I guess to see how many people are interested in the game.

@nprofile…nuu0 @nprofile…kyrq Ah yes the classic "NPCs use AI, so using generative AI to remove every creative aspect of a game is fine" defense.
Also there are plenty of FOSS tools like Krita, Blender, Godot, LMMS, and many more to actually LEARN and BE CREATIVE as opposed to just outsourcing to an averaging machine.

From "Every company does that, do it's okay" to "Games are a luxury, so I don't care if AAA studios make games more expensive for the sole reason that they believe people will tolerate the price increase"
