With Motorola and @npub1kwa…e0nj partnering, we maybe (probably not at first) get a foldable GOS device? One may dream...
I just hate the size of current phones and foldables at least make them... workable.
I'd still prefer to have no phone at all, and rather a Smartwatch that's standalone and capable of doing just what I need:
* Signal, ideally with some TTS/STT
* Simple Navigation (TTS, "Beeline navigation" on bike)
* Music (duh), ideally with BLE Audio
* Passkey/FIDO2 Support
Optional, but great:
* NFC Payment
* PkPass Wallet Support (somehow)
* Fitness/Sleep tracking ¹
* Camera (possibly on the "back" of the watch, you detach it to snap a photo)
¹ my specific idea here is to have the sensors in the wrist band including a small battery s.t. it records even when I don't wear the watch, e.g. when cycling or sleeping. This would also enable easy charging of the watch at night which then reverse-charges the wristband through the day.

Absolut. Das finde ich tatsächlich das Verwerflichste an der ganzen Thematik.
Das Absurde ist ja auch, dass manchen der ganze Hokuspokus durchaus hilft. Nicht, weil das medizinisch helfen würde, sondern, weil super viele schulmedizinische Ärzte einfach überlastet sind mit der Anzahl an Patient*innen und sich daher keine Zeit nehmen. Geht man zu Heilpraktiker*innen fühlt man sich oft fast wie privat versichert: Einem wird zugehört, man hat Zeit, es werden einem auch nicht Symptome als belanglos ausgeredet (kenne ich bspw. von vielen ME/CFS Betroffenen). Aber die Lösung darauf darf nicht Hokuspokus bleiben, sondern ein gutes medizinisches System, das funktioniert und Menschen ernst nimmt.
Anderer Aspekt ist natürlich die Hoffnung für Menschen die an Krankheiten erkrankt sind die aktuell als hoffnungslos gelten. Hoffnung ist unglaublich heilsam und gibt Energie um weiter zu machen. Und wenn die Schulmedizin korrekt sagt, "geht nicht" aber einem die Anthros sagen "naja, haben Sie aber Mal probiert Heilerde zu fressen?" dann verstehe ich, dass man das probiert. Aber auch hier: Dafür muss es bessere Lösungen geben.

Thinking back to #39C3 and the friendly creatures who I've met. There's a thing that I struggle with, still, and that's... randomly saying nice things to each other. I do this far too rarely. So this goes to out to all of you:
- Many of you have overcome their anxieties to approach me. I cannot say how much that means to me. I'm very insecure approaching "almost strangers" and if it wouldn't have been for you, I'd have been poorer for lots of great discussions, hugs + snuggles.
- Thank you, for the compliments, for all the nice words. You made my day. And I only seldomly returned this, despite the many beautiful people providing plenty of opportunity. I was just flustered. You look lovely, yes you!
- Thanks for the deep discussions about the wildest of topics. Y'all so understanding and I never felt like I needed to put my guard up. Unmasking, for 5 straight (more: gay) days is an incredible feeling.

Yes and no. From a legal or technical standpoint, all this is true. It is legally allowed, technically necessary. But this doesn't mean it's ethical and that it doesn't violate consent.
I can walk up to two people speaking in "public" to eavesdrop on their conversation. But just because I can, doesn't mean it's right. I can scrape endless pfp images from WhatsApp through their contacts API. But doesn't mean it's right.
So no, just because it's possible it doesn't mean "permission enough". It' just means that it's necessary and people have accepted the risk. Explicit permission is something different entirely. This is about consent, a human property, not about technological or legal constructs.

Honestly I find their texts among the best to read. I attribute that partially to the rather strict editorial style. It's also just breaking with the norm of sloppy texts and I feel the care that has been put into every sentence. I notice that I, the reader, still have to do my job with reading the article. But they helped me immensely by doing their job well, too. Which means I prefer the sometimes rather long essays of the NY over a short article by any other magazine.
It's still pretentious tho, but I mean, look at their logo. I think they know it is and it's become almost a self-ironic thing by now.

Because unfortunately Google probably doesn't see that as a problem. Or even as the Fedi winning. For them, longetivity doesn't matter, but peak user count.

Leider meine Erfahrung bei allen FP-Geräten (aus 2. Hand). In der Lebenszeit meiner Pixels (oft > 3-4 Jahre bis ich sie verliere) mussten die FPs alle zur Reperatur oder ausgetauscht werden. Leute die ihre Geräte nicht ins Wasser legen haben mit den Pixels auch >>4 Jahre Lebenszeit gehabt.

Gebrauchtgeräte sind schon ziemlich maximal nachhaltig. Alle meine Pixels waren/sind gebraucht. Die Pixels sind auch okay-ish reparierbar, aber bei mir halten sie einfach auch lange (oft sogar länger als die Fairphones da besser verarbeitet).
Und solange FP & Co. es nicht schaffen Sicherheitspatches lange und zeitnah bereitzustellen sehe ich die auch nicht als besonders "nachhaltig" an. Ein gebrauchtes Handy mit Graphene lebt gerne Mal 7 Jahre mit immer dem aktuellen Sicherheitsstand. Da kommt niemand heran.
Btw. auf ein Pixel Graphene zu installieren ist *sehr* einfach/angenehm. Gibt einen browserbasierten Web-Installer, einfach ein paar Knöpfe drücken und fertig. Viel besser als (früher) bei LineageOS/CyanogenMod & Co.

To answer @npub1dzz…h4tl : Often, the Ausweis isn't checked so these animations are a very cheap way to verify the ticket isn't copied. Not that it wouldn't be quite trivial to copy it anyway, including the animation, etc.
It's mostly harassing users with little to no gain.

If you always need a precise cut off point you’ll never be able to establish any rules, ever. What is the cut-off point for violence?
The answer is this: Social (or legal) rules don’t need to be perfect to serve their purpose. They need cover the current situations. And Jack Dorsey is very much not in line with other speakers here and the no-billionaire rule is very much unambiguous in this case.
There’s nothing nuanced about pretending that those issues don’t exist just because formulating rules is hard.

Today's Linux tip: Most GUI/non-server(!) distros default to KillUserProcesses=yes by now¹, so SSH-ing to a desktop and opening a tmux/screen to do something will still kill the processes when SSH drops. In case you don't want this behavior for a single command, you can just do something like:
```
systemd-run --scope --user tmux
```
This will persist throughout the whole user session.
If you also want this to persist over a complete log-out (i.e., even logging out on the GUI), you may need to `loginctl enable-linger`, too.
¹ For good reason, it's what most people would expect. Yes, it breaks existing behavior but if we want Linux to be on the desktop, it shouldn't behave like a server running a GUI. If you need different behavior, have a look at `systemd-analyze cat systemd/logind.conf` and check the files you need to touch to change this.

I don't feel welcome at /any/ FLINTA* event.
This includes FLINTA* Hackspaces or events, demonstrations and sports. And ultimately kept me away from there for longer than it should or still keep me away. And this isn't only me.
When going to those places for the first time(s), I always dress very femme out of safety. I know that I'd have had problems in some of them if I didn't. Once they know me, I can de-cloak and actually go there as "me" (which /may/ include being very femme). But I don't always look very trans or femme and I especially don't want to.
Because in the end the policy is always just a different wording for "no cis dudes". Which then becomes "do you look non-dude enough". Which openly discriminates against some people of all the above groups in FLINTA*.
I know cis women who do pass for cis male, although they tend to have the least problems with that getting rejected here.
But there are cis dudes who are inter. And other inter men, who aren't cis but easily pass for it. Do you want to check a person's medical record?

Hey @npub1umd…wfr7, I've uploaded some documents such as https://archive.org/details/vii-1.20103-26818 which are scanned images. I've manually run OCR locally and fixed the output (https://gist.github.com/ljrk0/90c917457f19e06fd9da760580580d0d#file-vii1-20103_26818-md). I see that the Internet Archive also provides for an OCR'ed version but of course this is completely automated.
Is there a way to "replace" the text that the OCR detected with a verified one?

Huh? They do mention using UEFIs BootNext – although in this case for supporting dual boot since kexec'ing PE is more of a neat hack than something serious. So this is pretty much exactly what macOS is doing except with the optional short-cut to kexec if possible?
