I am currently living a real life romance trope, I just can’t find what this trope is. Honestly working to banish the word, content, from my vocabulary. It does feel excessively strange now to read "my content" in a statement or something. Now I'd love to know what/who started this trend because it makes statements almost incomprehensible. I had someone say, "my content," offline and I couldn't resist. I replied, "which content? Your tap dancing elephant riding classes?" and I forced them to actually say what they mean, but I see artists all the time say, my content, in media statements and it bugs me now.

Factory Reset Protection is the most annoying thing #Google has done in ages. A non-tech friend gave me his Pixel 4A. He doesn't remember his old pin. I tried using his email and password to get back in, but the phone isn't showing up on his account. I learned later that if someone doesn't use their Google device for years, Google just removes it, which, fine, great! But Factory Reset Protection? Thought about trying out this email provider, but with Mozilla loving AI even though they say it's private, I'm unsure about this. Should I avoid? Am I just switching Google for another provider scanning my messages? Telling me to move away from Google faster won't get me to move faster, FYI. The amount of casual PC users telling me my website is broken *because* I don't track my users is worrying me. I do really like this RSS app. The one thing that keeps me from using this as my full time app. Using Lire, after a paus, VoiceOver starts reading the full content of an item automatically. This app does not do that and it’s the little productivity enhancement like the one in Lire that truly makes an app great beyond labeling elements. Yay! I read the Cat in the Hat in Braille today and didn’t mix words up! I’m getting there! What’s next? Would you suggest? I can still read raised print a billion times faster but I’m getting there via Braille! Ugh! So a few days ago my keyboard on my laptop, my trusty Lenovo I had for over 1six years, it’s finally malfunctioning in multiple ways, and I don’t think the hardware is easily replaceable so I’ve decided to try an upgraded version of that Linovo. I will include a link later but what’s your favorite debloat script? If you say Linux, I’m blocking you. I checked out some newer ones that obviously disabled things like location, things like that, and there’s even a few that actually disable all sounds, windows sounds. No thank you, I need location for things such as Aira but what’s your favorite Debloat script? The more I look into this Shy Girl book drama, the more it disturbs me that nobody is pointing out that publishers don't actually hate LLMs or so called AI. They're just hoping we get to a point where you’re so drowned in it that you stop caring and then they can just produce buckets and buckets of slop. And a truly ironic thing is, is that I just want to be left the fuck alone, regardless if I use these services or not. I Tried @nprofile…5gk6 again and I did not get very far because I had a massive headache. I was impressed with the ease of use though. A real easy way to see what needs improvement for cognitive impairment, use your thing with a splitting headache. I do not have a chronic cognitive impairment, but I did have a massive headache today, and the OS did super great! It was remarkably easy to set up. I just did not know enough orca commands to get going. I know it will probably annoy the sighted folk but could you consider a very, very, very, basic but evergreen getting started text file on the desktop for orca? I would even write it for you! It can even be taken from existing creative commons guides. As much as I hate the entire LLM/AI industry, and have nothing positive to say about any consumer AI company, there is something I deeply wish that AI critics would understand. There are thousands of real people out there that really, really, like consuming and even enjoying AI slop, and this includes generative fiction. I viscerally struggle with most mainstream AI/LLM critiques because even though the heart is in the right place, the execution makes me think, more times than not, this honestly should’ve just never been published. If they say no thank you, I don’t want to use it, it doesn’t have any use for me, then there’s a litany of replies and so much more. I had a guy replied to me and he couldn’t just leave it alone. He had to come away from the conversation letting me know that I was wrong and thus becoming that guy at the bar. These folks are an insult to computer scientists and AI is an insult to actual machine learning and machine computation

He said a lot of what I think. I feel like this is a growing consequence of consumerism. Treating art more like it’s a product rather than a process. I also think that the people that actively do not choose to read, but want to become authors, they are the very same kinds of people that really want their brains to be treated like an LLM. I have #RClone and I love it like you could never imagine. I’m looking for reliable, hosted, cloud storage. I would like to replace things such as OneDrive with something better and that probably will not vanish over night. I tried Koofr but they have a lot of unlabeled buttons and empty links. I’m not using Proton because I find their accessibility care to be far worse. I have a hosted NextCloud server but it is remarkably slow. Any other hosted NextCloud providers that grant me #WebDav access? For NextCloud i’m currently using DisRoot

For real, the best hackers are marginalized hackers. Yes I know not all of them code for accessibility and the like, but I spent the day with marginalized cyber punks and hackers and programmers. Even though I was the least knowledgeable in the room, I could feel the empathy there. I was also pleasantly surprised at how much I was able to contribute to the conversation even though I was the least knowledgeable in the room. I was also amazed at how much my reading and writing skills could apply to code and programming. You would be surprised, but my extensive understanding of literary technique and vast knowledge of cleverly crafting metaphores actually came in handy a lot more times than I initially thought. I thought I wasn’t going to say two words the whole time I was there.

Just had a sighted person tell me they often use clients and programs that were made for us, they don’t use screen readers, but they use clients like oh i don’t know a blind Mastodon client, SonarPad, as an example, because they said, the interface is 1000 times cleaner, there’s a lot of keyboard shortcuts, and I never have to put up with animation nonsense. You know software development has vastly sank in quality when sighted folk are using blind clients. #Programming #Software

Literally the best underutilized feature of Mastodon is the ability to schedule posts. I am looking forward to the day, if ever, that this will become a part of the main UI so I can finally get rid of things like Buffer. I utterly hate influencers as much as you can possibly imagine, but this wouldn’t just be used by influencers. I’m sure you’re an adult with friends all in different timezones and you have an offline life as well, so you can’t be posting all the time, but you check your feed at the end of the day. You seriously mean to tell me that even though you’re not an influencer, you would not have any use at all for this feature? I don’t beleive for one second that no influencers would never utilize native post scheduling. #Fediverse #Mastodon

I missed a discussion of #Accessibility decreasing in all aspects of things and I fully agree with the poster! I can’t boost because they have me blocked or muted but my workflow is very different. To be fair, I don’t try as much software as other blind people. I stick to #CLI tools, text editors, web browsers, word processors, media players, email clients, and RSS readers. I saw a lively discussion about that’s why blind young adults and blind teens are doing things on their mobile phones more rather than computers. I’m the exact opposite. I find my mobile phone to be extremely prone to lag, typing errors, inefficiency across the board, bugs that prevent me from using my mobile phone exclusively as a workstation. my laptop is 1 million times more powerful than my phone, but I guess that’s because I’m just not efficient with turning my phone into a computer. I think it depends on the industry. I work with text all day. Reviewing track changes, reviewing comments in documents, typing, and coding. I do game but it’s Muds or audio games or accessible video games. To me, my phone is more a portable media player than anything. I listen to a heck of a lot more audiobooks and fiction podcasts than actually using my phone. I think this is the moment when I officially become out of touch with the youth.

She began to hate publishing what she made online because she began to get nonsense critiques that she was using an LLM, when she was not using an LLM at the time. If she wrote terrible work, she used an LLM. If she did fantastic work, she used and LLM. The criticism was eating her alive slowly, day after day. She looked online and saw other Fantasy writers using it. She kept getting rejection after rejection, the rejections were eating her alive, especially after reading annoying articles by the media that started reporting on creatives using LLMs like some hidden secret that the fierce anti crowd were to stupid to take advantage of. They were making money. She was not.
The worst kind of critique was no matter what kind of work she created, everybody thought she was using an LLM. She became very discouraged in her own writing. If you’ve ever read the colonization of confidence, it was like that, but unlike Leo, the more she used an LLM to generate her work after trying it, the more she quit caring about the repercussions. She rationalized it by saying,c look. My industry sucks. I need leverage. I know it’s temporary, but I hate having to try and fight so hard to make an industry care about me or my improving craft. I hate having to constantly struggle and getting nothing in return.
She started using LLMs for blurbs and cover letters and marketing copy. It was similar to what happened with Leo, Publishers started buying her generated stories. She stopped caring about improving.
She now generates her first drafts, then edits them vigorously. She is making far more money now but we are no longer friends. She exclaimed, why should I continue to fight honorably. The industry doesn’t care about me, the industry likes the LLM garbage. I hate not being able to eat! Nobody cares about funding indie artists, not our government, not millions of institutions that have a lot of money, not churches and other large institutions with billions upon billions of dollars. Writing residencies and writing grants are competitions. They’re never opportunities. She stopped fighting and now just wants to make money. The verbal fight and shouting match we had was very brutal and very sad. I don’t think I’m gonna write about it for a while, the wound is way too fresh but she completely changed and she has no remorse whatsoever.

So, I'm trying to switch over to #LibreOffice and my em dashes are not showing up as em dashes. I type, dash dash dash, altogether, and it still does not transform into a proper em dash.
I tried to fix this with AutoCorrect, but even after I put the, * after it, it sill does not transform.
Any ideas on how to make the AutoCorrect work?
I'm also stunned at how much it crashes, Like, no really! Especially when I am editing AutoCorrect entries. It freezes and I am forced to close the program and then recover documents.
I've also had it crash several times when editing a document---a lengthy blog post.
Honestly? I hate Microsoft, but it's inhibiting behavior such as this that make me understand why people stick with Microsoft Word.
I'm not giving up on LO by any means. I will just never badger someone using MS Word again, especially since I've seen how buggy LO is.
On the bright side, LO is incredibly fast if I am just typing a messy first draft.

@nprofile…j5a9 The extra funny thing is that was a lot of guessing and bluffing! I do not use Linux but I know the very basic architecture, and I generally know how hardware tech works. I wanted the fucker to leave and a part of me thinks the reason why he invaded the store in the first place, was, he probably thought, oh yes! Here’s a store full of Black and brown people I can hoodwink simply because they don’t know as much about technology as I do! He probably thought he could use some tech words, get those minorities impressed, and then he has them eating out of the palm of his hand. It’s so disgusting

Get ready. Angry Sightless Scribbles post incoming. Yesterday a fucking Tech Bro just came into an independent bookstore, where everybody was happily reading, drinking hot chocolate or tea, and this dick hole just decided to come in to try to promote his stupid shitty AR but he called it an AI glasses where it would attempt to use AI to generate images of things you were reading, as if the imagination is a stupid thing that needs to be disrupted. I couldn’t take the shit. I have to deal with these morons everywhere in my online life, and I sure as shit did not want them in my offline life too but the fucker would not leave. I stood up, slammed my cane on the floor so that it made a very loud, crack! I began by saying, shut the fuck up. That’s when the technological beatdown happened. I can’t express how much I hate these people. He just saw a bookstore and decided to just invade our fucking sanctuary, and he really, really, hated it that a person he saw as a luddite, his version of a luddite anyway, knew the tech and new the operating system he was using better than he did. I can’t stand these fucking people. On the bright side, the bookstore owner said I could write in there for free anytime, any day, and I get free hot chocolate for life because that beatdown was golden. If I appear on TikTok, you know why.

People need to look at what Massachusetts did back in 2023, they raised taxes by 2 percent on people making 1 million dollars or more. And the residents of the state voted on it. They have been reaping 3 billion dollars a year ever since just from this alone. And guess what? There wasn't this mass exodus of rich people from the state.
If these wealthy people want to uproot their lives for a 2-4 percent increase, let them, but we have data showing taxing the rich makes everybody more money in the long run

I disagree with this update. Here is the follow up to the article I shared yesterday. Personally I think it’s OK if everybody is feeling a little bit emotional about their hero willingly using a technology that is rooted in a lot of all kinds of systemic oppression. To me, I hate this need for every figure people look up to to be perfect, but I do not expect anybody I actively promote to turn on a dime when it’s convenient for them. If you buy from Audible, make sure you download and get rid of the Audible DRM on your purchased audio files. A strange bug has been happening to me. I purchased audiobooks with cash, and these are favorite authors, so I knew I wanted to buy them. I never returned them. But today, Audible is acting as if I never bought them.
