I managed to remove the DRM with Calibre and plugins. The process has changed a bit since I did it, but Reddit’s r/calibre tends to have up to date info.

Quick to learn:
Tunnels & Trolls is pretty quick to learn, but I think Advanced Fighting Fantasy is even easier. Chaosium’s Basic Roleplaying has more rules, but that’s offset by the intuitive percentile system.

I’m not incredibly enthused about the Alien RPG second edition announcement after just five years. Having played two adventures to completion, I think the rules are pretty solid.
The Stress/Panic mechanic could use some clarification or massaging, and maybe Xenomorph actions (currently handled via random table to keep them unpredictable) could maybe use another look, but this seems like errata/optional rule territory rather than anything that can justify a whole new core book.
