a different reply also recommended that worker thread (loop.call_soon_threadsafe()?), so I think I'll have to learn a bit more about that.
I'll politely back away from the async library suggestion, I have enough projects/ideas to keep me busy 😅

I know that the Textual author recommends asyncio for background jobs, but I'm not (yet) familiar enough with asyncio yet.
Will such a separate thread allow the blocking requests.get()/post() calls [that Mastodon.py makes] to happen without stalling the UI?
(Adding this to the list of things to test/prototype.)

Mulling over my options to make "Mastodon.py" play nice within a "Textual" (TUI) environment, with respect to making the non-streaming bits work asynchronously:
- Mastodon.py uses "requests", not "aiohttp", so I don't think asyncio is an option?
- Unclear what the current state of the art is in terms of async drop-in replacements for "requests", unsure I could override Mastodon.py's use of it anyway.
- Best option seems to be gevent and "monkey-patching", then?

Doobie Brothers - Long Train Running?
We're back in the Midwest (USA) for Thanksgiving, and I'm reminded of the different expectations when you hear a train coming.
Around _here_ it means you may want to take a different turn if you can, or go ahead and turn off your vehicle because you may be here for several minutes; Worse, the train may slow down and even stop while still blocking the crossing, sometimes.
I definitely don't miss that 😁

Het gemiddelde van de afgelopen week was 35 posts (nieuwe posts + replies-to-self voor updates van de pagina’s) per dag. Elke post heeft ook minstens 1 “attachment”, 2 als het een update is (met de diff ter vergelijking van de vorige versie).

My problem is that while I know about it, my muscle memory is too strong and it isn't necessarily installed in environments where my shell scripts may land, so that (muscle memory) isn't likely to change any time soon.

There's a local “classic rock” station KFOX, usually on during a commute. I wondered how repetitive it actually was and (ab)used their "Now Playing" website widget to track songs/ads/promos.
- Backend data is a JSON blob (1st pic)
- Add a small shell script (2nd pic), run for 2 weeks
- Top songs in the 3rd pic
- Unique ones over 2 wk:

- Length of the tracks (see 4th image): 27h!
