Regarding Glowup and other post-processing things - I've been thinking about (but not communicating to the people who do camera stuff -- cc @npub18pw…yr8q, @npub1r3z…03cf ) coming up with a "postprocess nicely while idle and connected to a charger" - much like an iPhone does for stuff like generating highlight albums or person recognition.
This combined with a low-res, fast preview image generated when taking a picture could be a way to do this on slower hardware.

I am pretty sure they have accelerated graphics (I don't use the N900 I have, and treat it as 'for historical purposes only'). They definitely have GPU acceleration working on the OMAP4/PowerVR Motorola Droid 4 I run Maemo Leste on.

Is this too old? https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Lenovo_IdeaPad_Duet_Chromebook_(google-krane) (ASUS also made some similar, but slightly nicer, models that are supported, too. Camera does not work, but otherwise these are fine and very affordable.)

Regarding charging in the car: The Librem 5 is notoriously difficult with chargers, I recommend to check with https://linuxphoneapps.org/apps/nl.brixit.powersupply/ whether it is charging in a meaningful way and not something useless like 5V/0.5A, that will mostly (due to the prevention of power save modes, as the device is somewhat charging) assist with draining the battery.

Ok, let's see. Which distro are you running? I've found getting GPS to work on that hardware incredibly hard (outdoors, on a balcony, which is likely a similar difficulty as in a car, as the sky is partially obstructed. That said, when I finally got a fix, it lasted for a while. The Satellite app (https://linuxphoneapps.org/apps/page.codeberg.tpikonen.satellite/) can help with not being to frustrated with that, while it happens. For the Librem 5 you should basically have it upside down to get a fix, AFAIR.

I did two talks https://programm.froscon.org/2024/speakers/1933.html, and I think the first one (about linmob.net) went better than the "let's repeat the FOSDEM talk" one; in part because I was a bit hungover on the latter and it's sometimes surprisingly hard to repeat things well.

It may also be that it feels obsolete in terms of distro support. Take the support for rtl8723cs in the mainline rtw88 driver that landed with Linux 6.10.
In the old days, projects like @npub1ua9…sk4k or @npub1vnu…8mqn would have jumped on this, yet, AFAIK, only @npub16ss…2rua #SailfishOS port ships this so far.
It's normal and still sad - while we have mainline support many Qualcomm devices (e.g., Pixel 3a), the PinePhone support is still more complete.

I think the issue is that chatty's XMPP support is based on libpurple, which also makes it - even with stuff like lurch - an unreliable at best candidate for working chats with OMEMO in my experience. Thus is it's IMHO not a huge loss.

I think feel is always subjective, but yes, to me it feels sturdy and well built. Not old Thinkpad sturdy, but definitely sturdy enough.

So, in short: I have decided to play with ZRAM for now.
Clarification: "nice" = not utterly prohibitive, may still feel expensive.
Side note: The 'road forward' would be the iMX 8M Plus Quad, known from the MNT Pocket Reform. It allows for up to 8GB RAM, adds a NPU, but has a slower GPU - max. display res 1080p IIRC. It should be more power efficient compared to the iMX8M Quad (smaller node size), but overall I am not sure it would be a good choice going forward.

Don't ask @npub1j6f…76l3 about stuff like that, they're only about apps!
I don't think that such a board is likely to happen - but I could see the board of the 'Liberty Phone' (4 GB RAM (the maximum for the SoC) + 128 GB eMMC) land as an upgrade eventually.
The big issue is: Will it still be a relevant enough upgrade once Purism can afford offering this (from an inventory/financial perspective)? Doing this too early (at a nice price) would obsolete remaining 3/32GB inventory.

That's great to hear! I played with some time before 2020, maybe 2018? Back then, the Panfrost driver was nowhere near where it is now, so likely it was that what made my experience poor.

It's a pity, as Index was the best mobile filemanager way back in 2020/2021. Whale never made it beyond WIP (https://linuxphoneapps.org/apps/org.kde.whale.desktop/). Dolphin is surprisingly okay, though. If Qt6 Index won't be better, I'd be in favor of just shipping Dolphin.

Edge is part of the problem, having audio stack updates break configs can't be avoided when rolling.
Yes, there are more problems, but they are intermittent and hard to debug - and an excellent opportunity to contribute 😉
Regarding the PlaMo WiFi issue: https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/issues/1049#note_825620485 That workaround solves it, and yeah, one could just package, e.g, a daily cronjob that uses sed to alter every config file and pretend to have solved the issue - I am glad postmarketOS don't do that.

I am quite positive that 81voltd will land in postmarketOS 24.12 (or, maybe, before in a service pack, so that you can use stable - which does not suffer from 'breakage by upstream' as much as edge does).
Also, regarding Plasma Mobile: Plasma Mobile 6 is a lot better than previous releases, I am writing this from Plasma Mobile on OnePlus 6, happily accepting rare weirdness for a better virtual keyboard.

Agreed. Don't put all eggs into one basket, and collaboration can always accomplish more.
That said, I'd really like to see some 'transparency' from @Purism: Where's the PureOS subscription money going? It does not have to be as detailed as your excellent monthly posts, but something would be really nice.

Some devices have not been ported to 20.04, but last weeks new OTA 5 is for devices that are on 20.04 - the devices page has details: https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/
Meanwhile, the team works on getting 24.04 ready, Alfred and Florian mention that in the linked video.

I am not doing much with it. It's basically an music/podcasts player with Organic Maps right now, although it fares worse than expected as a mapping device as the screen does not get that bright (and is generally not very good).

Today I managed to flash #libreboot to my (new-to-me, abandoned by #ChromeOS ) ASUS Chromebook Flip C101P. It's now able to boot postmarketOS from the internal eMMC (with fde!)
