I see infosec kinda akin to firefighters. No matter how hard fire marshalls work to keep people from having piles of oily rags or blocking fire escapes or otherwise violating fire code, there's just too many builders and landlords building and operating too many shoddy homes that sooner or later, the firefighters gotta come and put out the fires.

A "fun" thing I discovered about 1password storing TOTP:
You can export the secret key back out of it again.
So when you store a password and TOTP together in it, it's just a single factor with extra steps.
Granted this is likely true for most any implementation of TOTP where it gets synced. But it's still a little bit uncomfortable to see the secret key sitting right there in the JSON export of your password vault

I don't think AI will ever be "gone". We can't put the slop genie back in the bottle. But what WILL happen, it Has to happen, is that the costs per token will skyrocket as the free money runs out. There's just no other economics way for this to happen. And then all the slop engineers are going to discover: they don't know how to code without burning a million tokens a day, and all those tokens are costing more than double their salaries. So employers are going to discover: we can just hire 3 people for the price of one slop engineer and all their tokens.

I often think we're far too quick to declare it impossible to ever change the US via the political process simply because it doesn't happen overnight. Nor typically even within one session of Congress. It's a long slow slog, district by district, state by state, fighting tooth and nail. Building coalitions. Lobbying. Pressure. Nonviolent protest. The country IS capable of changing for the better, we've just gotten complacent of letting the SCOTUS grant rights rather than fighting in the halls of politics for it.

"We'll just fork it" is privileged mindset. It means you think you can gather enough clout and like minded people to put up a bunch of unplanned work and time and passion to make a whole new project despite the old one still working "well enough".
Now you can take the same logic to electoral politics. "If you don't like it, move, or win elections".
Minorities know they're going to get clobbered in most of those situations if it's only done half-assed. So you pick your battles and go into it with a plan more concrete than hitting the fork button on GitHub and making a logo.

Fuck the FOSS bro mindset of "We can overlook bad behavior of maintainers because if it gets TOO bad we can just fork it."
And "It's okay to use 'open core' products even though the whole project couldn't survive without its corporate overlords who refuse PRs and public maintainer communities.
I can count on one hand the number of major FOSS projects not from Sun/Oracle who successfully forked and became larger than the original.
Forking a project results in one of two outcomes: <li><p>the fork dies because most of the contributors, maintainers, and users don't leave because they just can't be bothered to give a shit</p></li><li><p>Many people do schism, and the entire original AND fork decline in popularity as many people just go elsewhere rather than mess with it all </p></li>
Fight bad behavior, corporate ownership, toxic bullshit, bigotry, wrong project direction, etc. where you find it. Not by saying a fork is the release valve.

Again, kudos to the librarians for fighting book censorship, including age ratings on books, which would ultimately amount to book censorship with extra steps.
Sure, have kids sections and adult sections, but if a kid wants to learn about something, let them do it.

Related - if you're a guy who almost ALWAYS plays games as a woman when you get the chance, just consider for a moment, you could play the game of life as a woman if you want to. It's hard mode for sure, but it is way more fun if that's who you are.

Mild take:
Video games are objectively better when you can play as a woman.

Ah yes, "politically homeless" - the last stage of "well I'm a fascist but I still want to be invited to parties" moniker.

It's very surreal in this era of disposable websites that change every 6 months to go hunting for sites you visited regularly 10, 20, even 30 years ago and find them still online, and almost entirely unchanged in all that time. Just kinda preserved in amber by some blessed webmaster keeping their server online for decades after decade.
