I don't know why Phanpy is requesting images this way. Apps should use the provided full URL for images, as they could be in another different server. I.e., it's not uncommon for posts to attach images from remote, different services like Pinterest or imgur or whatever.

If you are having problems posting images, it could be because they are very big. If this is your issue, #snac is not to blame (it does not limit HTTP POST sizes), but you probably need to tune your httpd server to allow for larger uploads.

Hi. The #ActivityPub specification just says that, for an edited post, an updated attribute must be set to the latest modification date, and an Update activity to the modified Note object be sent out there. There are no provisions for a history of changes or a modification reason that I know of.

I've just published version 2.91 of #snac, the simple, minimalistic #ActivityPub instance server written in C. It includes the following changes:
Fixed some local posts not being shown if the replied post is deleted.
Fixed web UI incorrect links to public posts for some configurations.
Fixed encoding bug in Mastodon-style share links.

Your snac posts can be fancyMessages in snac allow a special subset of Markdown, that includes emphasized, strong, monospaced, strikethrough and underlined styles by surrounding text with one asterisk, two asterisks, backquotes, two tildes and two underlines, respectively.
Line breaks are respected and output as you write them.
Prepending a greater-than symbol in a line makes it a quote:

All angle-prepended lines are grouped in the same blockquote
It also allows preformatted text using three backquotes in a single line:

I'm glad to announce the release of version 2.81 of #snac, the simple, minimalistic #ActivityPub instance server written in C. It includes the following changes:
If the propagate_local_purge configuration variable is set to true in server.json, purged local posts generate a Delete activity that is sent everywhere, instead of only deleted from the filesystem.
Included a small tweak to avoid being confused by implementations that return valid webfinger queries for non-account URLs (like i.e. the Wordpress ActivityPub plugin in some configurations). This helps in searching by URL.
Added Ukrainian translation (contributed by wincentbalin).
New command-line option muted, to list all MUTEd actors.
Mastodon API: Fixed metadata and follower approval flag when editing the account.

Hi, Justine and Sandro. No, the original posts are not imported. This could be a complicated process, as the DNS domain is an integral part of each post identifier; there is no good solution for this. This is not (only) a #snac limitation, but the way ActivityPub is defined.

You can't just change the domain part, as it's an integral part of all ActivityPub object identifiers. Your followers, for example, expect posts from you from the domain they initially followed, and will reject everything if it's changed. This is not a #snac limitation, it's just the way ActivityPub is.
If you want to change the domain, you must move all your accounts from the old server to the new one, while both instances are operative.

Hi, #snac author here. Some explanations:
MUTE: silences an author forever. You'll never read anything from this poster anymore. Like block in Mastodon and other implementations, but without sending a Block activity.
Hide: hides a post and everything hyerarchically below (i.e. the full tree). The conversation won't be shown to you forever, and any incoming post in any of the levels will be dropped. No other part is informed about it, it's just a local operation.
Delete: deletes a post from your timeline. If it's part of a conversation, the branches below are left dangling, but are still shown in you timeline. Also, if you are the author of the post, a Delete activity is sent to everyone involved, so your post (hopefully) disappears everywhere.

I've just published version 2.79 of #snac, the simple, minimalistic #ActivityPub instance server written in C. It includes the following changes:
Added a server-wide Webmention hook; this way, if somebody out there (that supports Webmention) links to a user or post in this instance, a notification is sent (this is the complementary of what was implemented in version 2.76).
Fixed regression while sending email via pipe on OpenBSD.
Fixed Markdown parsing when the URL has parenthesis.
Always show the 'pending follow confirmations' section if there are any (even if the toggle is off).
If a metadata value is an account handler, it's also tried to be validated (rel="me" links).
Another search by URL tweak (this time for Pixelfed links).
Mastodon API: fixed a bug that made some boosts disappear after being shown in apps like Tusky, added followed hashtags maintenance, other minor changes.
Renamed command-line actions create_list to list_create and delete_list to list_remove.
The default favicon URL can be changed from the server configuration.
New command-line option export_posts, to export all posts by a user in a JSON format compatible with the one generated by Mastodon.
The command-line options to send notes also allow an optional -r argument, to set the URL of a Fediverse post this note is a reply to.

Mmm, I see why pledge is complaining while sending email via spawning sendmail. I'll fix it ASAP. Anyway, you can still set smtp_url to smtp://localhost in server.json (to send mail via socket instead of a pipe) and it will work.

Yes, those are Cloudflare serving a CAPTCHA-like text/html content expecting there is a user looking at it, even if it's an automated POST explicitly saying that only accepts application/activity+json. It's a misconfiguration / misbeheaviour somewhere at the other side of the connection, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Hi. I don't have access to any Apple phone, so I'm unable to do any test, but I of course would like it to work as better as possible.
I've heard that an app called Mona works acceptably, but I have no idea. I also heard that an iOs app named tooot works; this one also has an Android version, I did some shallow tests with it and it seems to work.
Personally, on my mobile phone, I use #snac's web UI from Android Firefox, and it works perfectly (in fact, for me, if something has an acceptable WWW suport, I install no mobile app, but I'm somewhat of an unfrozen caveman).

Due to decades of experience per programmer, state-of-the-art development processes and a diligent QA department, you can write /etc/hosts (or even /etc/passwd) in a #snac post and let the verb be spread to the world.

The hr hidden was introduced to make post boundaries to be clearly visible in text-based browsers, which (I incorrectly supposed) totally ignore CSS. Initially, I did it with a display: none style, but then was surprised that the links2 text-browser indeed interpreted it and hide the separator.

I'm glad to announce the release of version 2.75 of #snac, the simple, minimalistic #ActivityPub instance server written in C. It includes the following changes:
Added support for scheduled posts (for this to work correctly, users will have to set their time zone, see below).
The user can now select a working time zone. This will be used to correctly parse the local date and time of a scheduled post.
Fixed incorrect poll vote format, which was causing problems in platforms like GotoSocial.
Mastodon API: added support for /api/v1/instance/peers.
Added a new snac-admin helper script (contributed by shtrophic).
In the web UI, posts are separated by the <hr hidden> tag; it's invisible in graphical browsers, but it separates post clearly in text-based browsers.
Some Finnish, Spanish, Czech and Russian translation updates and fixes.
