I was able to turn 11299 heptads into a fully functioning interactive journal reader in 46 lines of code. Next up, I'll publish the journal and code and create a video presentation. I just remembered something related. Personally, I like to code. It helps me understand a problem as I figure out the right data schema and code to express knowledge transforms. These are all tools for knowledge, right? Sure, there are material transforms, but knowledge drives those. I don't mind a wee bit of syntax/indent help, and hover for API like VSCode and others. Anyway... I have some friends that have a theory that people who drive Prius' don't actually like cars. I think this fits. It isn't a judgement. You don't have to be in love with your car. You might just have a destination in mind. Now, another question is if you are using current inference tools, are you just matching your idea well against what exists, or are you truly creating something new? I wonder at what point in the future when somebody says "I did something" do we assume that includes AI agents under their control? Quite serious, here. If we do manage to continue to push the complexity/entropy envelope with our techno civ we are part of, this will be more and more embedded in our assumptions about agency.

For domains where heptads are expressed directly by the browser, it is possible to have integrity and provenance directly from the HTML. Think of it as extremely scrappy and lightweight RDF (#BarrySmith of #suny would call it scruffy.) CSS could handle the layout directly. JS could layout/validate.

Derek, is there a WoT repo besides this? I know of the github one (nostr-protocol) and a few tries at pure Nostr repos, and some mirror/dumps to a website, but this is the only one I know of with WoT in the UI.

Way, way back in time, around 2019, I figured that I would create a single page document that described semantic data flow models and make a joke about the gemstone files at the same time. Here it is. I looked it up because zstd will build dictionaries recursively, so I was considering housing the heptad entries in nested directories. But, come to think of it, this doesn't make sense, because the compression will work best if I keep it flat. The question is if 100K items to build the dictionary are too many. I'll find out soon enough. No reason to design around that before testing, anyway.

I'm not sure what I like more, that it is "Guest post by the author of Octopusyarn" or references Vervaeke and McGilchrist. A couple nights ago my wife wanted me to watch something called 15 minutes of Internet on youtube on the tv. It was a collection of vine-like funny vids. As she was trying to find it, a lecture by McGilchrist came up as something we might want to watch. I laughed a bit at the incongruence, both the subject matter, and the fact that it was an hour and a half long lecture by McGilchrist. (bookmarking this, but I have to use a different client)

My local-first vs. offline-only vs online-available needs a flowchart. Of course, I need to create a knowledge graph, so I had to look up some old work of mine from almost six years ago. I probably have a hundred thousand files to search through, so sometimes the Wayback Machine is easiest.

fetch messes up offline-first. I can hack it with a recent Electron binary release and a handful of JS or manual browser config (dangerous to suggest!), but it is still nice to be pure default browser. Today I'm figuring out if I can bypass the fetch based on a timestamp value in local storage without messing with the overall performance on initial load.

Quite literally... this is on my screen right now. I'm running with the key as the node with graph/subject/predicate, and the value as the object. For most attributes, they are human readable. For other nodes, they are UUIDv4.

I've long been aware that intellectually timid/lazy folks whine about semantic triples, and yet they overload keys with semantic information. If you do the hard work of the knowledge graph first, you can eventually arrive at concise and powerful key-value pairs and get both worlds.

For the Nostr crowd, the infrastructure problem is acknowledged. There is still a bit of fantasy in how it is addressed, but compared to a typical streaming service consumer, the understanding is much more sophisticated. This is also the Achilles heel of Bitcoin, in my mind, and why eventually culture will shepherd the infrastructure to centralized control for transactions. Like the WWW, the capability is there, but the instances end up matching cultural priorities. Trace the pragmatic financial motivations as we approach 21 million. Back to Nostr: The *crazy* thing is that the simple version of relays and simple signatures to validate events is exactly what we need, in my measure, for freedom from the infrastructure, but it is embedded in a culture where dev leaders all wannabe a typical social media app instead of a Scuttlebutt style "hey... in port. need water. what's the scuttlebutt today? what can I do to help." Along those lines I do appreciate Coracle more and more. Some of verbiricha/giorgio's work seems related and useful.

You can see both the explosion and shift in culture around 2012. This was when the WWW showed its capability for collective intelligence. At the same time opportunists were figuring out how to capture and hijack the wealth for themselves. The story is not over. The tech is free; the power shift is a harder problem. The infrastructure for collaboration is harder still, but unacknowledged.

I see the truth of what you are saying. I have no trouble with criticism, and when I do get it, it is great to have. With my technical stuff as I'm feeling my way through this, absolutely. I've received a few useful bits... thinking back, @nprofile…tl66 gave me some feedback, as did @nprofile…xvky , and I've used that. I'm human. I can get wadded up sometimes; however, if somebody takes the time to think about what I'm saying, actually reads what I wrote, and offers some criticism, that is gold. I wasn't very clear (or perhaps confused, or perhaps just wrong). My main point was that my approach of sharing any/all with an untargetted audience made me noisy and defeated the benefit of sharing.

Sharing as I learned, particularly with my weird take and requirements, made me very noisy. I alienate folks quickly. The academics see my flaws (although, TBF, a small percentage of those flaws are features that they can't see through their training). The regular folks see me as clankerish noise, which is quite counter-productive, since they are my audience. Academics don't need my work. They are quite comfortable.

Finally, before I STFU, my biggest mistake was sharing as I learned. I'm still learning. I wasn't a developer when I started. I had to figure that out. I knew nothing about knowledge graphs. I only knew Gane and Sarson DFDs were uniquely powerful yet simple. The absolute best guide is tracing simple programs to see where I'm failing in my understanding. Modern software ecosystems and tools hide the truth, particularly within an ecosystem of tools meant to deal with a giant knowledge graph: WWW.

The FIPS stuff does have some good engineering behind it. Respect for that. I know from past interactions you know what engineering, design, and architecture is, Tim.
The iceberg, for me, is owned by Civilization and Its Discontents, by Sigmund Freud. It is a big-ole mess underneath with conflicting voices, some booming with authority, but most is based in shifting sand out of our control (mostly). Quite appropriate in either context.
My personal take is that this changes nothing. It just feels good, man. I can relate to this, though. I work for a future culture, not this one.
Also, I'm using Ed25519, not secp256k1 in my stuff, now, as it is a pragmatic choice. Of course, that diverges from the entire ecosystem you folks are building. For me, simple is "can I just open a page in a browser with a script tag and render?". Ed25519 is supported natively in modern browsers. I get it that for anything sophisticated, particularly some of the visualization stuff I use, the NPM ecosystem and a bundler like Rollup are required, but *whatever* I build has to have various features/views of the data at rest with < 100 lines of code. Sorry... an overloaded comment... BUT, I do want to stress my first sentence.

I get the challenge. I also read Ligotti's The Conspiracy Against the Human Race when it came out, which took much from Zapffe, and also inspired True Detective. Ligotti isn't wrong. BUT... One of my favorites along these lines that captures my optimism, if you are unfamiliar, is by Gary Snyder. I write/work for that time when we meet in the future.

My vision for how R looks is a circle representing a single S which has segments representing relations, attributes or classes. The entire G comes from that. The S is a fresh U, so it is imaginary until Ps and Os define it within a G. It can have relationships to other entities in other Gs.

I spent a good hour trying to figure out why the fonts were messed up on recent builds of VSCodium. The root problem is that Chromium no longer supports FreeType. VSCodium 1.106.37943 with Hack works fine for me. I doubt there will ever be a better Toyota Tacoma than 2nd Gen, or AMC 232 engine.

I regret few things around concerts, but I sure wish I had seen Germs or Crucifucks live at a show. Now, Doc Dart is 26 and won't swear, and, of course, Darby Crash's suicide was eclipsed by John Lennon's death... so that time has passed... not that I go to any shows now. For simplicity, it is probably better to have one artifact as the full stream of heptads and one trimmed of timestamp, domain, pub, and sigs. I'll work with that.

The signatures and full heptad log are expensive from an application perspective. It might make sense to retain the full log but split out the PNG artifact for signatures and node/edge deletions. The signature artifact could simply be a list of sigs. Use a sig rather than yet another event ID.

The amount of biosphere and cultural damage we took on, as well as the pure intellectual effort to develop the 7 layers of the Internet, MDN, W3C, ECMAScript, Web APIs, GNU/Linux, software framework ecosystems, web browsers, Wikipedia, and AI models is staggering. But, we have it now. Why waste it?

I'm not particularly against AI stuff. But, rather solve root cause of meta/polycrisis stuff, it aggravates it, because the engine is running within and scraped from current culture. That being said, the 4GB model embedded in Chrome, since it can be run offline, is an insanely cool bit of tech.

One of the more useful conceptual tools for me is the idea of Conway's game of life. Global culture is relatively homogeneous from a #DanielQuinn #Ishmael perspective. Communicating about it within culture is a double bind (any progress on the game board is erased by embedded rules or just ineffective, as well as structurally set up as a trap to perpetuate modernity). The enemy is us, but the way out, like double binds, cannot be reached through intuition or deduction *within* current culture.

My memory is that it is possible to constrain s-p to a UUID or similar, and keep messy values in o only. Since the pub and sig are always the same length, this should make the length up until the 7th element of the heptad predictable. Further, the first six are all a-f,Z,T,0-9. ???

I think it will be simpler if I require delete status attributes for nodes and edges, and pull the timestamp down to the same level as the signature and pubkey/id. The "ontology" is the app itself, no reason to sweat too much, particularly for expected applications. Likely a simple g-s-p-o map.

Time series makes all of this outside of normal graphs. I just need to process the heptads and filter into vasturiano's JSON graph format. This might make more sense than going through a graph app front-end. I'm already starting with quads+provenance+ts, so translation in one pass should work.

By putting the timestamp in h[3], I can delete the object relation and/or re-enable. For attributes this doesn't matter, as they are the node itself. For the quad part of the heptad it just says that once I defined g-s-p-o, and as of 20260508T123505748Z X deleted p-o. g-s-p is fine dangling.
