Lambert Heller (b. 1972) is a distinguished librarian and head of the Open Science Lab at the TIB - Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology in Hannover, Germany. He studied sociology, political science, and philosophy in Bremen and Hannover, completing a library traineeship and a Master's degree in Library and Information Science in Berlin. Lambert began his professional career in research libraries in 2004, initially working in Münster and Berlin before specializing in economics as a subject specialist.
Since 2013, Lambert has led the Open Science Lab at TIB, focusing on advancing open science practices, open access, and innovative collaborative methods such as booksprints. His activism prominently includes digital collective memory - he initiated grant-funded wiki-based citizen science projects in memorial culture, addressing the critical re-examination of history and memory while challenging nationalist narratives.
In the summer of 2025, Lambert was honored with an International Visiting Fellowship at the University of Victoria Libraries in Canada, where he engaged with international colleagues to advance open science, digital infrastructures, and community-driven knowledge creation.
Lambert contributes as a reviewer for the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Dutch Research Council (NWO), offers advisory support to organizations like the ISCC Foundation, and actively participates in professional community building. He regularly presents workshops and lectures worldwide, fostering participatory approaches in research information and open science culture.
Blending his social sciences background with deep expertise in library and information science, Lambert’s work democratizes access to scientific knowledge, promotes decentralized research infrastructures, and advocates for transparent scientific communication. He connects with the wider community on the Fediverse, sharing insights on open science, digital memory activism, and research transparency.
Lambert Heller embodies a leading force in open science innovation and digital collective memory activism, committed to building inclusive and open research ecosystems globally.
