One the tedious parts of mapmaking is labeling!

I’m trying to digitally recreate a vintage style world map with two hemispheres (Old World and New World) and polar regions where the world is as it is known by Europeans as of 1700. (So Abel Tasman had already seen the western coast of New Zealand and the southern tip of Tasmania.)
Next, I’ll add labels, but anachronistically using current names. (Nope, never “Gulf of America”.)

Decided to do something “simple” for today. Here is a map of all ferry routes ⛴️ in the #Philippines 🇵🇭 that have been mapped in #OpenStreetMap. Data has been extracted via #OverpassTurbo (data licensed under ODbL 1.0) and rendered via #Leaflet.
Since the Philippines is an archipelago, ferries and boats are important means of transportation especially since the thousands of small islands are too small to host airstrips.

Nynaeve torturing Seta is so good, but I think non-book readers will be confused. The books had tons of pages to expound on how the a’dam work as the characters are studying it but the show is trying to cram everything into the precious few screen minutes.

I just finished rereading The Gathering Storm, or Book 12 of The Wheel of Time, and after watching Episode 7 of the TV show and seeing the visceral interactions between Egwene and Renna, I’m reminded of this line from the book during the Seanchan raid at the White Tower:
“Each faceless Seanchan that Egwene struck down seemed to be Renna in her mind’s eye. [...]
This raid had to *cost* them.”
Hopefully the TV series will realize this long-term payoff seeded in Ep7.

The recent English-only drama over on #Fosstodon just made me aware that my instance, en.osm.town, is ostensibly an English-primary instance (it's right there in the hostname!) and was created after the now-defunct French-language fr.osm.social instance but we welcome any language toots. And we have four moderators all speaking at least 6 languages among us. Then again, we are a pretty small instance.

So I finally got to stay at an airport lounge for the first time (Plaza Premium Lounge at Changi Airport Terminal 1). My credit card has a promotional partnership with Priority Pass so I decided to avail 1 of my up to 4 free annual lounge visits to see what all the fuss is about.
Well, the buffet and seating was nice enough. But because the lounge was near full, it wasn't as relaxing as I expected. I think the airline-dedicated lounges might be a tad bit better.

Day 0 of #Wikimania2023 is done!
The massive 6-foot-tall cardboard sculpture of the Wikipedia 'W' logo is pretty nifty. And the plenary hall is *massive*! 😮 I will be presenting here on Thursday and I'm already intimidated. 😱

Rediscovering this gem from #Kygo and I'm struck at how I only really appreciate this song now as opposed to a few years ago when I first heard it.

I think Kygo produces the most similar music to the late #Avicii and this song in particular was sung by the same singer (Sandro Cavazza) as "Without You", one of my favorite Avicii songs.
I also like how "Happy Now" is thematically similar to Marshmello/Bastille's "Happier" which I also really love.

I finished mapping all 10 barangays of the municipality of Panglao, Bohol, #Philippines 🇵🇭 in #OpenStreetMap, improving their #Wikidata items, and linking the two datasets with each other.
