Fees are something like 50c right now, so there is nothing stopping people using L1 for medium value, non-time sensitive transactions.

I just tried zapping this in Jumble on my PC and with Minibits running in the foreground on my phone. It failed.
I zapped with Primal's own wallet and it worked.
I zapped with Amethyst using Minibits and it worked.
Coracle.social would not connect with Minibits via NWC.
It's a minefield. 😅

Taj Mahal
More confrontational than I remember. It is often called an auction game but they are are really small battles like in Ivanhoe/Condottiere.
The area control reminds me a lot of Iwari/Web of Power/Tyrants of the Underdark.
This is less intuitive than a regular Knizia. Not one of his best but memorable.

Splendor Pokemon
Regular Splendor is smooth and intuitive so I was a bit concerned that this might be gilding the lily. I shouldn't have hesitated. This version just replaces the nobles with upgrading (evolving) cards (pokemon). It's a nice thematic twist on the original.

I didn't realise that the OP_RETURN limit expansion in Core v30 is to prevent UTXO bloat - where spammy data is kept in the UTXO set. It's a pragmatic solution to spam damage - not an encouragement of spam

Star Wars: Rebellion
This is longer than I usually like and I don't often play 2 player games but I love Star Wars - at least the original 3 films.
Fury of Dracula for two is a good summary as you're hunting for the rebel base around the galaxy. I was the Empire and got beaten pretty easily, but I did get to interrogate Han Solo and get him to tell me where the base was.

Power Grid: The Stock Companies
An expansion for Power Grid that turns it into an 18xx-style stock management game.
It's a bit early to tell, but on the face of it this seems like a significant improvement. There's none of the turn-order rubber-banding - which spoiled the original for me.
The only problem is that the English translation is poor and some finer points were a bit vague. Should be smoother next time.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Primal has Cashu connected as the NWC wallet, and shows a zap in the UK but nothing happens.
Amethyst tries to launch a native wallet app. There is no NWC config as far as I can tell.
Jumble shows an error message "Zap failed: failed to publish: Error. pow. 28 bits needed. (2)". It shows a wallet connected via NWC.
Primal shows a zap in the UI, but nothing else happens.
Nosotros doesn't seem to have any NWC config.

Cashu.me does not connect to my account via NWP. I added the URL, but zaps are broken.
I do not know if it's a NWP problem with me playing around with lots of Nostr clients or if it's a problem with Cashu.me.

A friend wants to invest in Bitcoin, so I wanted to try out some wallets. I thought I'd give the @nprofile…vk3k app (aka Green) a try as it's the top player in Bitcoin development.
My sats were in @npub1cm3…96wt, but it's a bit too early to be really usable. Lightning payments were broken, so I had to get my money out using Spark - which worked fine. The only other Spark wallet I could find was @nprofile…tyh5 (a Chrome extension + mobile app) so I got sats out using that.
I tried to transfer sats into the Blockstream app using Lightning, but, to my surprise, the payment went through as mainnet. I wasn't bothered as the fee was cheap.
I then realised that the Blockstream app doesn't support Lightning out of the box. It's an "experimental feature" that you have to enable in settings - except that feature wasn't there. 🤯
I gave up and did a mainnet transction into Misty @nprofile…fa7r - a reliable mobile wallet that supports mainnet, liquid and lightning with no fuss.
I might try Xverse again another time as that did the job too.

Fate of the Fellowship
I couldn't resist this in the shop.
It's thematically brilliant. Better than War of the Ring because the characters are so important.
Punishingly hard. I have played 3 times and only come close once and that was because I got a lift from the giant eagles to Mt Doom.
Playing with 4 gamers shares the cognitive load.
Surprised I've enjoyed it so much, but disappointed it's too much for my son.
Upgraded from Nazgul minis to black cubes.

Yes but it was Yonatan Sompolinsky who couldn't explain it. He just said it was a "generalisation" of Bitcoin. 🤷‍♂️
He also wouldn't recommend a wallet.

Helps that you reminded me in your latest episode which I'm listening to now.
BTW he did a horrible job at the start of the episode in explaining Kaspa. I had to Google that it's an L1. You shouldn't let your guests explain the top level basics. Stefan Livera does a good job of that, although I disagree with him on most things.

Fist of Dragonstones
This one divides opinion. It's in that uncomfortable spot of being more complicated than a pub game, but not really meaty enough for a regular games night.

Not my kind of game at all. Took us 4 hours.
It's a classic crowd funded modern worker placement game. Tons of incredible components and art. 30 pages of rules. Tons of tracks and counters and ways to score. Minimal player interaction.
Good for what it is, but I'd rather not.

Wonderland's War
This is a good game for Sunday morning at a convention. It's not too hard to learn and play but there's plenty going on and you don't mind about it taking 2.5 hours.
Sometimes the production values of modern board games are jaw-dropping.

Climbing games aren't as variable or as deep as tricktakers, but this is surprisingly different.
Instead of the usual 2-3-4 or 4-4-4 combos, the cards make number place values so a combo of 6-3-1 is the number six hundred and thirty one. You also have to pick up one of the cards of the hand you beat.
Lots of decisions in a small, cheap, attractive pack.

My 2002 copy looks battered and it's weird to play a dungeon game without a foot-deep box and 40 minis, but the game itself has held up well. 45 minutes of knockabout fun. Adding this to the short list of area control games I actually like.

Breaking Away
Plays best with 6. Easy to teach and constantly engaging. The strategy is more subtle than first appears. It feels like a race game. Everyone enjoyed it very much. My only complaint is that it is 30 minutes too long.
It is an unusual game. I prefer it to Flamme Rouge.

Surprising to see a professional economist saying that tariffs can be a good thing. Was part of my economics 101 that they are totally bad. The problem with using empiricism to argue that tariffs have been good historically is that a country might have prospered despite the tariffs.
Anyway, we will have more empirical evidence soon...

Bottle Imp plays astonishingly well as a 6 player game. It is fast and has an easy rhythm. Lots of laughs when someone gets stuck with the bottle. Sadly I súck at it.

Rival Cities
Andreas Steding makes old-school euros like Hansa Teutonica and this is no exception.
This is a quick, 2-player game that's easy to learn, but it's pretty involved.
The board edge is a large rondel with interspersed preset and random actions. I haven't seen this before.
There are four instant win conditions.You must keep your opponent in the mid-zone for the win conditions or they spiral out of control.
I want to play again. Clever and original.

Rumis (Blokus 3D)
Lovely little multiplayer abstract that you can play with non-gamers. It is the best physical version of Tetris that I have played. I have the original German game in wood. Blokus 3D is in plastic.

It was great to get back to my regular games club after a long holiday.
Modern Art has aged well. Pretty sure this was my first ever win.

Both games seem much simpler 20+ years later.
We also played 5er Finden. Throw 5 dice with symbols. Against the clock draw 5 pentominos with all 5 symbols on a grid and score points. Timed Qwirkle..

Thank you. I didn't realise that. I suppose if you swap $100 of a transparent transaction into a shielded transaction in your wallet then it might be possible to deduce the source later.

Russia's invasion makes sense to them. If Russia tried to get Canada or Mexico to join a new Warsaw Pact, then the USA would probably invade.
On the other hand, the West's strategy with Ukraine is also rational. Russia and China supplied Vietnam during the Vietnam War and we are doing the same.

Not at all. Have you ever worked in big organisations? They are generally well meaning but slightly incompetent and lazy. Shining a light on that would paralyse them through constant butt covering.
That's the real world. 🤷‍♂️
