Yay, the Crucial X9 SSD I bought for way too much money to make my recent videos seems to have just died on me… Won’t mount on anything I have handy (Mac, iPad…)
(I backed up everything to a hard drive the other day, but still…)

2026-03-06 19:00:33 UTC

So, about a month ago maybe in the #TIBtv chat, @npub19xk…6hgp said he wanted to make a video for one of my #bonkwave tracks. I immediately agreed and today, the video premiered during the Friday Fresh hour on the channel.
And the video is amazing! And you can catch it here! (Be sure to watch it all the way through, the surprises are many!)
Here’s to many more collaborations!

The Indie Beat Television ( @npub15fs…l243) which launched December 28th, uses open source software, was created by musicians, and features only videos by independant artists, mostly from the fediverse. The launch was a big success, people are sending in videos daily, and the quality is incredible.

I barely use my old iPhone, but… I’m constantly on my tablet, which I also use to draw and to make music… I try to eradicate realtime news from my fedi feed, which isn’t easy, and it doesn’t take much of it to slip through and fuel the fear… but my feed also brings me so much joy and inspiration and even a sense of community, which I don’t get as easily from my RSS feed. Such a high wire act. I’ll be trying those exercises ❤️

Dear musicians, I don’t know if it’s just me but FYI when I click on a SoundCloud link, I either
- get a prompt to log in
- get a prompt to download the app
- get access to your song but am asked to log in with google or facebook when I click play
- get access to your song (maybe, I’m not sure)
So I don’t click on SoundCloud links any more…

There are different ways of doing it, but the most common and compatible way is with a media query. It’s really a matter of defining the colors for light and dark. Something like :
:root {
--bg: #fff;
--text: #000;
}
@npub1nw7…cuv5 (prefers-color-scheme: dark) {
:root {
--bg: #000;
--text: #fff;
/* filter: brightness(.8) contrast(1.2); */
}

I love the Beatles. Some of the best songs ever written! The lyrics are often silly, but there’s nearly always a touch of dada/surrealism in them, and, well, the music often reaches the sublime. 🥹

2025-07-05 16:47:47 UTC

Please please please don’t impose dark mode on your websites. Honor the user’s system settings.
There are plenty of people with visual impairments as common as astigmatism who can’t read light text on dark background, because it’s like staring at a strong lightbulb in the dark.
And it’s not hard. Just a few lines of CSS.

you both are talented video artists with a great stage presence and I really really enjoy your videos A LOT.
Still, I’m old enough to remember the pre-MTV era when album covers and liner notes were the only (precious) visuals that came with the music.
And then the era with videos with fancy plotlines which had strictly nothing to do with the theme of the song. And of sophisticated videos which conveniently distracted you from the indigent music…

I’m of two minds about music videos. On the one hand, they can be really cool, but on the other hand, video killed the radio star.
I know too many people from the MTV era onwards who confuse music and video, can’t enjoy the former without the latter, and I think that’s when music started dying as a major art form in the eyes (pun intended) of the general public.
I do watch some and enjoy them (including yours 🤩), but I could live without the video part.

I’m old, but the #1 discovery mechanism has always been the radio. In France, we have this public station called #FIP that’s been around forever, than only plays music, of every conceivable genre (from classical to jazz to world to modern to weird), old and new. Unfortunately, they now have thematic channels online, which is precisely what hinders discovery (or narrows it too much).
I discovered all of you via #radiofreefedi ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have a blog blog (https://noblogo.org/sknob), mostly in French, only partially music-related, so not sure it would be a good fit, and a regular site (https://sknob.fr) which isn’t a blog. Oh no…

yes, my first ever, this summer during the #RFF #Fediwave series. It was scary, with just acoustic guitar and voice and no backing tracks or loops or effects, but it was a success, according to the public anyway 😅

Just played my entire “Spiral“ album on acoustic like a madman screaming at the top of my lungs (helps living in the middle of rugged scrublands). Therapeutic. Maybe a concept for a second #livestream if I muster the courage and energy one of these days 😅

yes, that’s what I do. And I recently implemented it on my old music site using this clever script by @npub1p09…m5vl https://mamot.fr/@sknob/113078829296718140

very nice, and vey cool content and messaging ❤️
(One nitpick. Being able to choose a light theme would be nice for people who have my flavor of wonky eyesight 😬)

Dear #MusiciansDay,
I’ve been writing idiosyncratic #franglophone alt-pop-rock songs for a few decades now, and am stoked by the indie music scene on the #fediverse.
Proud contributor and fan of #RadioFreeFedi, #fedivision, #fediwave, #bonkwave, #notBonkwave, #Faircamp, #BeYourOwnPlatform, etc.
Thrilled to have met so many cool, talented and original musicians around here.
Check out my pinned posts for my latest stuff, or visit my handmade music site, https://sknob.fr/music.
Best,
sknob 🌐

sorry I could only catch the tail end d of it. I have no idea how you do that kind of music but it really rocks (so to speak). And the B&W cinematography was spectacular 😊
