I’ve come a long way in my Bitcoin journey. What began as a passing interest has evolved into a deep conviction that Bitcoin can actually help us build a better world, re-instill in society an understanding of the importance of individual liberty, and start to repair the badly frayed trust that pervades nearly every institution. These are lofty ideas, they might even sound Polyannish, but when you choose to spend precious time in life on something, I think a little bit of conviction is warranted.
As an expression of that conviction, I have decided to make Bitcoin my full time job. I’ve joined the Bitcoin Policy Institute as Director of Government Affairs. People often refer to next chapters when they change careers. For me, this is more than a new chapter - it’s a whole new story.
It’s fair that many of you might say to yourselves “Bitcoin doesn’t need the government.” Fair enough, but this mission is as much about Bitcoiners and your right to use this network as it is about Bitcoin itself. I’ve learned from experience - you might not believe in the government, but the government believes in you.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to join you all on this journey.

Some of my friends who have resisted #Bitcoin are actually becoming angrier as we approach $100k. I've tried to explain to them - (nearly) every time I've bought bitcoin it felt expensive - a few months later, it looked really cheap. One friend is particularly miffed because his teenage son is tumbling down the rabbit hole.
I've also told them - you can buy it or not....but I guarantee your kids will!

Both this ECB paper and the recent one from the Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank shine light on their barely concealed belief that people are here to serve the state. While the ECB paper drips with contempt, the Fed paper is blatant in its intent of keeping you trapped in the cycle of debt regardless of whether you want to be a part of it. Denying you a way out of the system is tantamount to making you a slave of it. The moral corruption underlying the motivation behind these papers is astonishing.

It is also likely that other countries, using their intelligence collection capabilities, had greater insights into the chaos in the White House than the American people. Understanding the decision tree is critical to understanding an adversary’s plans and intentions, which is really the point of intelligence collection. Get that wrong, and a series of unfortunate events can unfold.
But at least now we know - the Harris people are in charge, and the vast mechanism of influence the democrats rely on will kick into high gear to make sure that whatever happens from today forward will be in support of her candidacy.
And we’ll be not-so-politely asked to forget the last three years of obfuscation and lies.

Assuming Harris becomes the nominee, she will be the titular head of the democrat party. She will also become the focus of effort for the vast establishment democrats rely on to keep their machine rolling. Biden might retain the title, but Harris will be in charge.

With my daughter soon heading to college, there has been a lot of packing and organizing in my house. Among the things we got around to opening was some old storage that hadn’t been opened for many years. Mixed in with a lot of stuff we probably never needed to save were some nuggets from travels past.
I found these East German coins I collected on a trip to the DDR in 1988. I was a student in West Germany and remember calling my parents to tell them I was going with friends to East Germany – back in a week. Obviously no cell phones, no email. Times have changed.

I also found what I thought was a lost journal I kept during one of my deployments in the “forever wars.” I kept it as something my then infant daughter could have, should I not make it back. It’s mostly me writing to her, but consistent through it is a deep skepticism about why were there and likelihood of success.
These rediscoveries are timely, with discussions about 4th turnings and global realignment dominating the Zeitgeist. They recall two periods that figure prominently in the lifetime of a Gen Xer and show how fast the forces of change can upend your reality. These experiences have made me a skeptic by nature, but skeptics can still have faith.
To all you building freedom tech, thank you for what you do. Keep it up – this is your time to shine. And for the rest of us, if I can quote we all know who – stay humble and stack sats. They will serve you well.

American policymakers are stuck in a fading framework - dollar dominance understood as the ability to manipulate currency as a tool of national power. And it isn’t Bitcoin causing this framework to fade, but rather the abuse of the very privileges people wish to maintain.
While Bitcoin is neutral, that neutrality speaks to what I hope can remain core American values - the sovereign individual, economic freedom. Challenged as these values are, people are seemingly waking to the realization of the false promises of collectivization. Because Bitcoin speaks to core values, it inherently offers Americans the opportunity to benefit from this competitive advantage.
The dollar system is resilient, but it is not immortal. When it comes to Bitcoin, the US enjoys the competitive advantages of values, hash rate, and innovation. Something will fill the gap left by the dollar as its role as reserve asset fades. Right now there is no clear successor. Perhaps we will stumble upon a new generation of leaders who see the possibility of filling this gap with a monetary asset that, while perhaps beyond our ability to directly manipulate, is well suited to help the American people realize a sound future for themselves and the country.
And with that example, might not other like-minded countries follow? I believe there is space enough on this Earth of ours for everyone to prosper.

I’ve been using venice.ai for a few days, both chat and image. It’s great. I’ve also run some thornier questions past it and ChatGPT and Gemini. As advertised, Venice provides straight forward answers without the sensitivity knee and elbow pads. Plus, it is decentralized and doesn’t store your data.

Ok, no more vanity posts about my home mining experience! But on a serious note, the ability to play even a small part in supporting a decentralized global network from your house, without asking permission from anyone is a truly amazing experience. You can’t feel it unless you try it.
We all have differing levels of technical ability, but the market has given us the ability, even for just a few dollars and regardless of our technical ability, to participate.

I feel like Bitcoiners understand the wave of regulatory challenges coming our way. I also see some great efforts to educate lawmakers and regulators about what this ecosystem is all about. But where I feel like we’re failing is the political organization side of things.
We forget how susceptible lawmakers are to pressure - especially in an election year. We forget how much pressure vulnerable lawmakers can put on regulators. We forget the
impact of several thousand calls and emails to lawmakers office.
With all due respect to @npub1sg6…f63m , this is not about law and order absolutists prevailing. One only need look at the lawlessness overtaking so many communities. This is about political control - power. Bitcoin threatens the power of the regulatory class. But Bitcoiners can threaten the power of the political class.
By the smallest estimate, there are 26 millions Bitcoiners in the US. Much smaller constituencies have moved political mountains. And we can do so as responsible members of our communities.
Most of you might hate it, but we need to get into the political fight. We talk about self custody, sovereignty. It’s time we actively stick up for these principles in the public square.

I had a few reboots at this setting, so pushing the core voltage back to 1166 at 500 Mhz. Stable so far at 500 - 600 gh/s.

I grew up in New York, and I hate to say it, I can't bear going back. The deterioration really upsets me, seeing places I grew up in reduced to filth and chaos. I still have strong emotional ties to the city, but not strong enough to suspend good sense.
Completely random - I found myself in Milwaukee for a conference, an unexpected surprise. Clean, vibrant, with that very unique early 1900s architecture. I might not visit in January....but in September, it was fabulous.
Stayed at The Trade, Marriott Autograph. Super slick.....

Caught up with some friends who work in cyber security. They're not Bitcoiners, but they have a good understanding of how the protocol functions. We had a long discussion about security, and how Bitcoin could be attacked from a purely technical perspective. One issue that took up a lot of discussion was the DNS seeds and hard-coded seed nodes, and whether those represented a vulnerability. We all went back and forth. But what they miss is that countries representing more than half of global gdp are actively building parallel, competing payment rails outside the dollar system, especially in commodities . This is an interesting piece. I think people are coming around to the risks of extreme financialization of Bitcoin, both in terms of the iintegrity of the pprotocol as well as the realization that this financialization is precisely why we will see ETF approvals. The establishment knows exactly how and where to attach the collar and leash to securities such as ETFs, and thus tthe underlying aaset. Once these ETFs are fully liquid, rumblings about protocol “governance” will soon follow.
