Now I'm just stuck being annoyed that my older iPhone 14 can't make chapters!
I suspect I'll buy an iPhone 18 though. 18 is a special number in Israel 🙂

Something went bad with the gossip-listener came back to it and it was eating RAM and 300% CPU.
Can't see anything unusual in the logs before i killed it.

the machine its running from may or may not lose signal (it's a wifi only connected machine and it's the wrong side of my blast door so if we close the door to the bomb shelter, wifi gets a bit iffy).
It's a great test for crappy internet 🙂

can you add the gossip-writer to the ci-cd pipeline? The Dockerfile works fine (I think its the one I put there in the same docker folder) as the gossip-listener one.

OK after a lot of faffing I built my own 0.4.5 version of the gossip-writer (it's on my docker hub) and I'm running both that and the listener side by sid.
I'm still testing my new hivepinger and if anyone want to test that properly with me and put some real podpings out, please let me know!

does Alpha still use the old hivewriter behind it?
The hivepinger I've just written is a whole lot simpler and set to use my own two Hive nodes + all the rest of the working API servers dynamically if for any reason both of my nodes fail.

If anyone out there is using podping.cloud I'd love to have you try using the version I've just written. I've got a test deployment up and running.
All you should need to do is switch out podping.cloud for another fdqn https:// domain I'll give you (not making it public as it's not built to have an auth system).
The idea is that you can then run this yourself in your own infra stack (it's a fully self contained single container).

it's terribly frustrating. I got NWC working with my own node running the hated Alby thing and Castamatic.
I keep thinking I could finish my drop in replacement for the lost Alby wallet solution or engineer my back end to be NWC but honestly I really need someone else to offer to do the integration for me.
I don't want to give time to it.

does your watcher look only at "pp_" in the custom_json ID field or are you seeing my testing spam with ID pplt_ ?
Just FYI the main reason I'm using the live chain is to nail down the behaviour when Resource Credits run out, this is hard to do in a strict testing environment but I think I have the behaviour now exactly what I want.
This hasn't happened to us in production for years because of another thing I wrote but I don't want it to bite someone else.

The de-dup means my system will ignore subsequent url-medium-reason combinations in a 180s window.
I've also got a small delay in batch sending to collect multiple rss feeds. The original HiveWriter does this too.
I can fine tune the batch times, live will be 1s so near instant, I'm thinking 10 or 20s for normal updates.

So I'm working on my new Podping HivePinger simple API system with the main idea that hosts can run it internally.
At the moment I'm working with a 180s de-duplication system and for live testing (because it's not a real test if you don't post to a blockchain) I'm reading live podpings and feeding them all in.
I'm seeing a lot of duplicates coming from the existing writers on podping.cloud. Some of this is legit but there's much more noise then their should be.

it's actually on github but I've only been working on it for less than two days.
Its a really simple all in one Fastapi replacement for podping.cloud without authentication you run locally and it sends podpings. One docker container.
Super resilient.
You just give it a posting key and Hive account.

I think it was yesterday that a 1TB drive became too small for Bitcoin.
I upgraded mine to a 2TB SSD on my silly little Rasp Pi IV a few weeks ago because I still use that as my home dev node. Otherwise the 50% on my data would be 100%+

Dave don't set up an LNUrl on your node.
Adam: when you say you're running Alby hub at home your own Adam@ getalby address still uses Alby's API infrastructure. That is the thing they blocked me from using so my brianoflondon @ address became unusable for me even though I have an Alby node.
A small voltage node will not like getting the volume you will get.
I wouldn't want my Voltage node to handle your volume. It would crush my node for sure.

I just got to the bit in Podcasting 2.0 about Alby and LNAddress.
@npub1rcn…dw4h I said all this.
LNAddress is a fucked up system. You can crash any LNAddress system and I've known this since I hand coded my own LNAddress API.
I've got massive rate limiting on creation of invoices because the system sucks.
Keysend was GENIUS because the invoice was created AFTER the node finds out the paying is already ON ITS WAY.

yeah some of the api servers are behind Cloudflare but many aren't and so most of the software will hunt around till it finds a working api server to use.
The underlying p2p sync of the chain is completly independent.

Israel has almost no crypto specific legislation or restrictions. Israel has been the birth place of a wide range of important crypto tech.
Bumi tried to claim regulation but he can't tell me of any (there aren't).
They banned Israel because of their perception that they don't like the way Jews fight back against aggressive, murderous wars launched into our villages. I hope their investors notice.

what was lost was the only easy api which could keysend boosts and stream sats.
Whilst their API was public they largely made it irrelevant when they stopped their wallet service.
In addition, specifically affecting me, even though I set up an Alby hub on my own lightning node, I couldn't use apps like Podverse and Castomatic because they geo block Israel.
They completly screwed podcasting 2.0 and made it harder for me to implement my version of their api.

and now it's pretty much moot because the Lightning bros have decided they don't want to deal with Keysend any more despite it being a fantastic protocol.
I can't be bothered fighting Bitcoin maxis.
It's possible in a few months I will propose a stable coin based Hive Dollar system which will just work and we'll see if anyone wants to try it.

I pretty much got about 80% of the work done on replicating the ORIGINAL pre-Nostr Alby API which all the podcast apps used to send keysend payments based on a custodial wallet model.
In my case the backend would be a wallet secured against your Hive account (which which is moving to a non custodial model over the next month).
I have most of the auth flow working, but then Israel was attacked by Hamas and Bumi went to war against me.

What a pity @npub1glq…4zwa and @npub19vl…qjjz banned Israel from Alby: I had a drop in replacement for a non custodial keysend wallet almost ready to go.
And even now I can't do the work to turn it on because testing without Alby during the transition is impossible FOR ME.
Alby completly screwed the entire world of Podcasting 2.0 and nobody should trust them for any business critical process.

I really hate this but if I have a podcast feed on @npub1fkf…84sp but they want to have a Spotify Video feed, what are the options?
Start a spotify hosted video channel and just maintain spotify + open rss?
I'm loathed to do that but if they insist on video on spotify what choice do I have?
