interesting. I had meant to point out that you had recently tooted a look at the life and death of Cyc as a deceased expert system, and in parallel I was reading a book explicitly comparing its KR to CYCL.
At one point, too early in my trajectory to have really understood implications other than a vague connection to DEs, I did at least physically look at every page of Wolfram's monster which is why it lurks in the visual-metaphor-spheres of my brain.

the idea that occurs to me is that a probabilistic decision tree, even generated to fit some data, is exactly a probabilistic decision tree, even a non-trivial one (halting problem one). Whereas an attempt to universally approximate from sampling the same data has a universe of possibilities, probably exacerbated by having a pre-trained model for example. I'm not sure how to formalize that idea though, and I have many pages on the topic to read.

Do you worry about even picolisp bifurcating lisp programming culture that has been somewhat continuously intact inside common lisp conforming implementations ? Why not use embeddable common lisp?

So, one thing that bugs me about installing slime is the "modify your init file" step. could I add-hook requiring slime-autoloads to the after-startup-hook or something to avoid needing to open my init file at all?

I guess it's kind of similar to format control strings, isn't it, because they have many similar attributes to regex control strings. Ie
CL-USER> (format t "\"\\\"~%")

I guess it's hard to do, isn't it.

Proximally, I was thinking recently it was because #/ was the character dispatch macro in zetalisp in the early 80s. Now it's #\, but I had to add #/ as the "zetalisp character dispatch macro" to run some zetalisp code recently. So there's a reason to choose something else. Also ~/foo:bar/ is a format control in lisp (call the exported bar from foo on the output stream).
To my knowledge, it's encouraged to use the unused bracket characters for this kind of stuff.

While reading through the beginning of SICP, I noticed I have a reactionary feeling against the Good Advice shared between a lot of the introductory lisp books. Imagine I have something like
(defun x-value (3-list) (car 3-list)) <=> (setf (symbol-function 'x-value) #'car)
I don't see the poetry of the euphemism x-value for car. So I think lisp objects should all be directly amenable to function-lambda-expression

Crossposting bots are clearly the robocashiers at McDonalds and KFC and big chain supermarkets. The synthetic PLEASE WAIT FOR ASSISTANCE as a human sales assistant comes to attend to you after you punch in your robot order is not what society is.

so it's been a long time since I was playing with plan 9 much.
[Since a lot of plan 9 innovations only make sense if you have never heard of lisp]
With that said acme is basically more completely central to the OS than emacs is to people who like emacs. And presumably you would be using sam style regex inside acme, and all acme's other features. (Basically your developer computer programs always get plumbed through acme = become acme plugins).
