Had to open the toot in another tab, since I have blocked, and been blocked by, them, a few days ago, because of this very subject.
And I see they continue the "oh woe is me" narrative in the replies, so I'm going to suggest blocking them, too.
At this point it's just sad and annoying the way they conduct themselves.

Gosh darn it, I actually use GrapheneOS... I was happy being blissfully unaware of this, moving over to something else is going to be a major pain...
*sigh*

I'd personally keep the LLM co-author references, but explain in the readme that, while the original project had LLM input, you are not going to do the same thing.
That will, IMO, maintain transparency for the past, and set the tone for the future.
Not a dev, just something I'd personally prefer to see in a project.

If you think Mastodon sucks, you're using it wrong, IMO.

Because I might know someone, but they're in the EU.

As I said, I haven't tried it. A quick check on their site seems to indicate a small number of apps in their "app store", though.

Have you checked out https://opencloud.eu?
It's a fork of Owncloud's successor, Owncloud Infinite Scale (OIS).
As it happened with Nextcloud, OIS's devs felt like Owncloud was leaning too much towards close-source, forked the code and started a new company.
It's supposed to NOT be built on top of PHP, and actually have some performance behind it.
Haven't tried it myself, but I've heard good things about it.

I've just been using the webUI, honestly.
I've tried a few apps, but they've all come up short for one reason or another, including I've that suddenly started taking 30+ seconds to refresh timelines.
So these days I just have a tab open on Waterfox. Same on desktop, too!

#FOSS experts, if you're up for it, I'd like a couple of suggestions.
Currently looking for two Android apps:
1) Offline music player with Android Auto support. Fossify Music Player would fit this to a T, if it had AA support.
2) Local only podcast player. Currently using Audiobookshelf, but since I'm the only user of the instance, and only use one device to listen, it feels unnecessary, so a local-only app should be enough. No AA support needed for this one.
Any suggestions are welcome, and thank you in advance for your time and experience!

That question has been asked on the 2.5 Admins podcast a while ago, and even though that was for Docker containers, I think it also applies here, so here's the general gist of the reply that was given:
- If something breaks in a monolithic approach, there's a bigger chance that the breakage extends to unrelated services.
- Security-wise, if someone breaks into a monolithic setup, they'll be able to access everything.
- Some services require specific versions of database engines/schemas, or database extensions, that might not be compatible with other services (Immich comes to mind, they run at least one extension not usually found elsewhere).
- These days, the overhead of running multiple containers is limited.
So, their ultimate suggestion was to run multiple containers.
If available, multiple Proxmox hosts for redundancy will of course be even better.

Swap is disabled on the Live ISO, which is... anything but ideal on a system with 2GB of RAM... lol
That being said, it might be possible to enable a compressed ZRAM swap partition, assuming the Live ISO has those apps installed by default.
It's something I might look into later, right now it's a bit more complex than what I have time and energy for.
I have no idea how I'd get another desktop running on the Live ISO, nor if that's even possible, though...
Regardless, thank you for your suggestion!

2025-09-17 07:46:19 UTC

I might have made a terrible mistake: trying to install #nixos on a Dell Wyse 3040 😐
Weirdly enough, the Live ISO loaded just fine, with the typical 1.3GB of RAM being used by a system with the GNOME DE. Which of course is way too much for the 2GB of RAM this puny thing has 😝
Installer also ran fine. That is, up until the point where RAM hit 95% usage, at which point the screen became unresponsive... 20 minutes ago and counting 😅
The oddest thing is that apparently the USB drive is still showing activity that isn't constant or cyclical.
So, maybe it's actually still running, even though it's not showing?
That being said, does anyone have a way to install NixOS that's a bit lighter on resources but has the same options that the GNOME Live ISO allows, namely choosing a DE?

"Fun" fact: they do that everywhere, and not just authors.
I still remember the news about a couple that moved to France, didn't bother to acclimatize to the new place, one year in hadn't even learned a single word of French, and were complaining that too many people spoke French...
And of course they were thinking of moving back because of... *checks notes*... their stupidity.
I never wanted to slap someone so hard as when I read that article.

And since I'm on a roll, is it an intended result for a boosted toot not disappearing when you mute/block the original poster, at least if the boosted post is on your home timeline?

Thank you for the fast reply.
No rush on a fix, though, it's not something critical, and it's easy to get around it (press the button before muting/blocking the post).
And thank you for the amazing app, a not insignificant part of me wishes it would also be available for PC, I think it's better than using the site, and then the other Mastodon clients for Linux.

@npub14kx…urew, has anyone ever brought up this potential bug/unexpected behavior on Fedilab?
On a timeline, if for some reason the last post before the "load more" buttons disappears (easiest way to reproduce is to mute the post, or a hashtag in it, or to block the author), the "load more" buttons also disappear.

People from the #netherlands, a minute of your time, if I may.
Being my first visit to your amazing country, I must ask if what just happened to me is normal.
I was sitting down on some stairs, very public place. Since I've not been feeling too well, it showed.
So, random guy ends up sitting down a couple of meters away from me, and ends up chatting with me about all kinds of things, including religion.
After about 10 minutes he says his feet are charged up, wishes me well, and walks away.
Being from a country where the kind of thing is very much NOT common, and will leave you with your guard up immediately, can you tell me if this is considered a normal occurrence?
Thank you in advance.

AFAIK, there is no Delta Chat integration for HA, and creating a bot is out of the window because of HA's security model (especially if you're running HAOS).
There seem to be e-mail notification integrations in HA, though, so the second option might be viable.

I knew this day was coming, but never thought it would be like this, out of the blue and for a completely random reason...
Currently at the vet, waiting for the vet to come back so bf and I can tell them it's time for our eldest cat to go.
He started bleeding from his mouth, and photos show his tumor has basically taken over the back of the tongue and mouth, and the tongue itself is not viable anymore.
He's also still losing weight despite eating twice as much as he did.
And even if we were to add a feeding tube, he wouldn't last much longer before he'd probably choke to death.
So he's going today.
Fuck.

It indeed is.
Check out GrapheneOS (you need to install it), /e/OS (can install it or buy preinstalled at Murena), or iodé (can install, not sure if you can buy preinstalled).
On any Android phone you can use the Aurora Store to install apps without being logged on to a Google account, too, though Google will be able to recognize the phone's hardware ID.
Hope this helps!

@npub1lxy…k4m5
Counterpoint: a several hour outage yesterday, that started sometime after midnight and continued until about 9am and required a call to tech support for them to fix things.
IMO, outward-facing services like email and social media are likely better served off-prem, because you don't want stuff like ISPs not having enough external IPs for all their customers, or random outages (power, internet, hardware failure, etc.), to cut those services off.

That was the launch point for me spinning up my own #Searxng docker container and moving over to it for my searches, even out of the house, on my Firefox-based browsers (your instructions also work for those).
I've even seen an increase in the quality of the search results.
And yes, this was prompted by his blog's move to Ghostly, which caused a full refresh on my RSS reader 😛
