You’re thinking like an engineer.
If by unenforceable you mean to everyone all the time flawlessly? Then Yeah.
Some things are features, they are binaries, on off, and some things are policies, we never reach them and we constantly steer towards it because it’s the values we uphold.
Also, conflict is not abuse. If anything, we endure the conflict because there’s trust between us. Trust we foster for long time in our communities. And will be lost with growth.

If anything fediblocks could be the algorithm substitute we need. You create a body that deliberates who should or shouldn’t be on block list, negotiate with instances the conditions to be or not on this list, and instances engage or disengage with said algorithm if too lax/strict.
if you’re a bad node, people should be able to flag you as such, to others. And collectively defend themselves.

Meta has networks of scale and the (very proprietary very corporate) algorithm stimulates filter bubbles that protects groups from group-haters.
It’s the algorithm. The very algorithm we dont want.
Growth is not a solution for that. Frankly without an algorithm substitute (a computational way to separate people in groups, instead of us consciously having to choose and curate) growth will make it exponentially worse!

Safer spaces, isolated and protected, are not to be treated as less than, as refusal to participate.

Nobody said the world is built this way. But abuse is where you draw the line on when you should disengage, so it should be front and center in discussions of community connection. It’s our litmus test.
I have way less patience than you give me credit for. I have the privilege to engage/disengage because I understand the tools.
Communities are not meant to scale. In fact, the larger the community, the less deep are the connections. There’s a Goldilocks we should aim for.
