After years relying only on social feeds, I’m going back to reading blogs via RSS on my laptop using NewsFlash on GNOME. 📰
I was honestly surprised to find that some blogs I usually read still don’t provide a feed in 2026. 🙃

After thinking a bit more about Ned’s post and the discussion here, it really felt like the right moment to make expectations around AI-assisted contributions clearer in Django.
So I opened a proposal to add an AI/LLM contribution policy.
The idea isn’t to police tools, but to keep responsibility clearly human and reduce ambiguity for contributors and maintainers.

I got Ned's point, but I don’t think we can treat Claude (or similar tools) at the same level as a person.
We've never added tools (e.g. isort, Black, Ruff, ...) as co-authors of commits, even when they generated 100% of a commit.
Listing Claude as a co-author of a commit put it the same level as a person, but it's a tool.
The author of a commit is a person responsible for the code they submit, without shifting that responsibility to the tool, or worse, to the project maintainers.

Thanks Timo for sharing your points and the article, very interesting and helpful for the discussion.
From what I understand, there are several open alternatives, but none of them are free from trade-offs or operational issues (e.g Matrix)
That probably makes the decision even more pragmatic: if we ever move away from Discord, we should choose something stable and usable in practice, even if it has fewer shiny features.
Reliability matters more than stars and badges. :)

With news that Discord is moving toward stricter age/ID verification and privacy concerns around this shift, I’m wondering whether Open Source communities like Python and Django should consider alternatives to Discord. 🤔
Platforms like Matrix or Zulip might better respect privacy and freedom of access.

I’ve realized that many posts and photos from conferences I shared before joining Mastodon (2019) are now basically trapped on Twitter/X.
They still exist, but accessing them has become difficult.
I’m considering moving to a self-hosted Mastodon instance and importing some old tweets to “free” them.
Has anyone tried this?

What I find interesting is how GNOME, Python, and Django converge on the same idea: AI can be a tool, but responsibility, disclosure, and reviewability stay with the contributor, otherwise the cost shifts to maintainers.
Maybe the next step is finding a shared place to collect and compare these approaches.

Thanks for the comments @npub1vvj…puhp what I take away from it is that the problem is not AI writing code, but the way it shifts workload, legal risk, and collaborative responsibility onto maintainers, breaking the social processes of Open Source.
With more and more examples like this, also for projects like Django, we probably need to find shared technical or governance approaches to protect maintainers without blocking development or discouraging contributions.
How could we start doing this?

Shortly after, I read a post from the GNOME Extensions team explaining why they had to add a new review rule. They are seeing more and more patches generated with AI, full of unnecessary code, bad patterns, and little real understanding behind them. 🤖

Can someone that are using Bluesky summary why? And what are the similarities of advantages over the Fediverse and Mastodon? I'm more interested in aspects like open license, standards, accessibility than in the number of people that are over there. Thanks.
