It could be interpreted as a love letter to violent incels.
And that's how the violent incels interpreted it.

I finally watched Joker (2019). I avoided it for a long time because of the people I knew who really gravitated to it. They were the same people who had strong Trump leanings. The movie has that. There are scenes that could've been lifted from January 6th footage. But it's more than that and better.
It's dark and borders on toxic, but it tries to walk a fine line and succeeds.

To a degree I feel that Orwell was a bit of a sadist and relished in lurid descriptions of Winston Smith's misery. To a degree, I feel Orwell fabricated a world that allowed him to explore his own personal paranoid fears of the world. But finally I find this book is an earnest warning against the type of totalitarianism that was Stalin's Russia as Orwell was writing it.

The experiment was simple enough, despite the 1.23 billion dollar budget and the 80 mile particle accelerator required to pull it off. I'm trying to build up the gumption to watch the musical Star Trek episode. I hate the whole idea. I hate that I will certainly like it. But, even if I do, I will debate anyone who says it belongs in the Star Trek universe.
Of course actors and theater majors will argue for a musical number. I was a theater major. I get it. But my rule is firm. In science fiction, if they start dancing, you've done something wrong.

I don't say this often enough but…
I can't express fully how great it has been facilitating the #VisualWritingPrompt since I joined #Mastodon. It is an act of pure creativity for me, similar to planting seeds and watching a garden grow. I love creating the prompts (as it feels like the only inoffensive use of generative art - and its fun!) and I love reading the writers' responses. It is an activity that has no downsides and all upsides.

I just finished @npub1yyd…vgmq wonderful Fugitive Telemetry, the current final episode of The Murderbot Diaries. I am ready for the next one, System Collapse due out in November. I will suck these books up as quickly as they get published.
Wells does a thing I love as a writer. She creates a world, characters, and plot so well realized, I am mystified how she can imagine all the intricacies. I marvel at each story's detail.

I respect Wil Wheaton so much. He is an excellent host and advocate for all things #StarTrek. He's a hugely talented narrator of audio books. But what I truly value is his strength as an advocate and a writer of clear, humane, empathic social policy.
