What is the thinking behind posting social media selfies that are mirror images…not selfies taken in the mirror… but images that have been flipped so text is backwards.
Can people not see they're flipped? Do they not care?
Sometimes they're holding a book cover.
What is that?

For all the readers of The Dent in the Universe, here's an early debut of Book Two of the WalrusTech Universe on GoodReads. The cover reveal is coming up in less than a month but if you want. to add it to your "To Read" list, you can now do that.
That would be lovely btw.

To all the #WritingCommunity looking to publish a book one day:
You can't quite prepare your ego for the result of getting what you get when you publish a book. If it fails your ego will be knocked about. If it succeeds your ego will ALSO be knocked about. Take care of yourself and find the time to breathe, eat well, and exercise. It's a hell of a ride, but it is impactful no matter which way it goes.

It could be interpreted as a love letter to violent incels.
And that's how the violent incels interpreted it.
So, it's not wrong to hate the result. I think the filmmakers didn't intend that. Maybe they should have seen it. But art can be messy.

2023-09-04 01:07:10 UTC

I finally watched Joker (2019). I avoided it for a long time because of the people I knew who really gravitated to it. They were the same people who had strong Trump leanings. The movie has that. There are scenes that could've been lifted from January 6th footage. But it's more than that and better.
It's dark and borders on toxic, but it tries to walk a fine line and succeeds.

It is not a "political belief" to think people should be able to love and have sex with whoever they choose.
It is not a "political belief" to think people of all races are equal and valuable human beings.
It is not a "political belief" to think people know what their own gender is after living in their body regardless what a doctor decided at birth
These are not political beliefs. These are acknowledgments of reality.

I think authors get paid better through self-publishing via Amazon's KDP than through traditional publishing if their work and marketing is up to it. Amazon has the same hold on the entire commercial marketplace as it has on books. It's a huge problem but getting paid isn't one of the issues.

If teh wealthy 1% of the world would come together and work with the lower 99% to create a better world, to end homelessness, end hunger, educate the masses, protect the environment, pursue clean energy—I would advocate for leaving them untaxed.
But, as they are now, ignoring all of those problems and making them worse—I say we tax them at 90% and do all those things with the revenue.

In the end, as all paranoid delusions are, it's the expression of an egotistical mind—one who believes their thoughts or sins against society matter enough that the entirety of the government must watch their every move, gather the evidence against them, and punish them.
Winston Smith is a nothing, a nowhere man— and not even terribly bright. There is no world-governing party that could survive if its energies were spent being concerned about him, and the billions like him, in any way.

To a degree I feel that Orwell was a bit of a sadist and relished in lurid descriptions of Winston Smith's misery. Does anyone yet live who remembers when people wanted to work at Home Depot because they hired pros who knew how to build, plumb, and wire? When you could ask someone in an orange apron a question and they offered good advice. When the employees got stock options? When you could return anything for any reason without a receipt?
Now that the local hardware stores are gone, the competition is defeated, none of those things are true.
This is the nature of capitalism.

Apollo is a great sauce. I use it in recipes quite often.
The Bomb (Beyond Insanity) is not really a sauce. It's a culibary prank. It's one of a few of the show's lineup that I threw away after my first try.
I think the Hot Ones show could swap The Apollo sauce for The Bomb and the challenge wouldn't be any worse. That Apollo is every bit as hot but it doesn't suck.

I think about this picture of my folks a lot. It has a "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" feeling to me. 1940s Minnesota.

In fact, I'd put money down on a sequel within a couple years.

Cage and Pascal have pretty great chemistry. I think just the buddy adventure carries it on its own.

Context switching between javascript and php requires a meal, or at least a snack, maybe even a nap, before continuing.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is a whole lot of fun. It has a few beats that go haywire, but overall the script is a joy. Nick Cage proves again that his willingness to go big on weird choices pays off sometimes?

A question for all the #WritingCommunity folks.
When you were assigned a book to read in high school were you happy or sad about it?

This weekend I'm cleaning my woodshop for the first time in over 2 years of home rehabbing projects. I just returned from the landfill. I may need to make 2 more runs.
The amount of scrap pine chunks and sticks is impressive.
The amount of unswept sawdust is embarrassing.
