#crochet friends, I have severely underestimated just how much of a Yarn Monster the waffle stitch Afghan is!
This is how wide it is after one 100g skein (230 metres) finished, about 7 cm wide 😅
It needs to be around 150 cm 😅😅😅
But it such a beautiful stitch so I’ll allow it.

Shetland #yarn for my custom #knitting jumper arrived yesterday.
This is actual yarn spun on Shetland, and, according to the label, it’s 2PLY but 4PLY equivalent for jumpers 😅
It comes in these tiny 25g skeins also which are cute but not very convenient, but then nothing in knitting really is.

My custom yoke design knitted sweater is knit from the bottom up, and I just came up with the genius idea of starting with a sleeve so it can also act as a swatch!

#crochet overlay mosaic bookcase blanket is complete!
Started 6 weeks ago, I worked on and off this, except the damn double border that I worked on solidly for the last three days!
I’m really happy with how this has turned out, it’s my first, big, complicated project.

My issue with this double border BS is that the first round on each side is worked into slip stitches, so tight and a pain in the bum to work each stitch.
Couple that with the fact that the only hook I have in the correct size is a Clover Amour, which is a great hook for everyone but me, because my hands are so big it digs into my palm after a while and also causes cramp in my thumb.

@nprofile…9mz9 I’m paying for it privately (in the UK) from a registered pharmacy and I regularly show them my weight and do video calls so they can see progress and when it stalls.
The fact I’m paying makes quite a difference I think, they want to make more money after all.
Also, I’m a doctor and they know that so they kinda just do what I tell them 😅

#mounjaro #weightloss update:
I reached my target weight of 85kg (from 112) a couple of months ago, while taking the highest dose of 15mg.
I’ve gradually reduced it down, and last Saturday I took my first dose of 7.5mg.
This week is the first time I’ve felt hungrier than usual. It’s a slightly alien feeling, as my appetite has been very well controlled until now.
It’s still under control but I’m having to get used to eating a bit more, which is a good thing as I’m still losing weight up to this point and I don’t want to, words I never thought I’d say in my life!
I’m making sure to exercise regularly also, mainly gentle resistance stuff to make sure muscle mass (and muscle rate) stay good.
It’ll be interesting to see what the scales say this Saturday.

Book case #crochet blanket update:
Fifth shelf finished!
This was an interesting one, as the ikebana plant on the far left had some asymmetrical decreases that I initially did as written, it was only until I got to the next row and it wasn’t working that I realised I should’ve done them backwards, being left-handed and all.
This is the first time in my admittedly short crochet career that I’ve encountered stitches that have to be done differently, usually the only difference is having to read the charts from left to right rather than vice versa, but the stitches are the same.
Anyway!
One more shelf to go then the dreaded double border.
I guess I’ll update when the whole thing is done, which hopefully will be soon 😅

It’s essentially Returnal 2.
It’s a bit more forgiving than the first game, with a persistent tech tree between runs and even an extra life by default (unlike in Returnal where you had to find that coffin thing), but the gameplay and loop is essentially just like Returnal.
I don’t think that’s different enough to make it a recommendation for someone who didn’t like that game.
I loved Returnal (clocked it 100% twice, on PS5 then PC) so Saros is right up my street.

Gamers, do you find there’s some stuff you will never skip, no matter how many times you see or hear them?
Saros got me thinking as there’s a 20 second cutscene that keeps recurring that I’ll never skip.
Which reminded me of other things I’ll never skip:
* The song that Kapp’n sings when he takes you on his boat in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
* The cutscene rewarding you a Light of Blessing when you complete a shrine in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
* The Outer Wilds title screen music. There’s no way I’ll start the game until it finishes (and I dry my eyes #IYKYK 🥺🥺🥺)
I’m sure there’s more that I can’t think of right now.

Friends, my bacon was just well and truly saved by the 3-2-1 backup rule!!
I'm filling in the new-starter paperwork for the new hospital and they wanted to know stuff I had transferred over from the old hospital via email.
Except neither the email nor the files attached to it were anywhere to be found!!
No idea how I lost them!
Luckily, my PC backs up to my NAS which inturns is backed up remotely to BackBlaze, who keep copies of everything!
So, a quick visit there and the missing files are now back offline on the PC where they belong.
Had it not been for this, it would have been a right royal pain in the bum to get them back from the old hospital.
If you've ever dealt with any form of medical staffing in your life, you'll understand.
MORAL OF THE STORY: backup your data! 3 copies, 2 storage medias, 1 remote copy.

An update friends:
After the interview, I was told I’d find out on the day.
I then get a text message from the head of department telling me unofficially that I’d got the job but I’ll hear officially on Monday (today).
I’ve not heard anything all day and I’m on the verge of telling them to stuff their job, and I’ll take another offer I’ve received elsewhere 😒
I don’t mind what the outcome is, but I think it’s rude keeping people waiting when a decision would’ve been made on the same day. I need to know so I can plan the next few weeks.
The NHS sometimes really does beggar belief… it has always worked on the assumption that you’re single, have very little financial or family commitment, and are freely mobile without any geographical restrictions either…

My brother just reminded me that I had tickets to see Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” concerts in London back in 2009, which of course never happened.
At the time, we were offered refunds or the tickets, the design of which had been kept a secret as a surprise to holders.

Quick #knitting question:
These socks I shouldn’t be making are using cotton yarn. I’ve never knitted with cotton before so don’t know what to expect.
I have noticed that the ribbing is exceptionally neat! I can honestly say it’s the neatest ribbing I’ve ever done in my 18 years of knitting!
Nothing has changed, other than the yarn being cotton.
So, my question is, is cotton yarn more forgiving because it’s stiffer? Or is this just one happy coincidence?

I still consider myself very lucky to be a Gen X gamer who lived the evolution of 8 bit to today, and this demo sure nails that vibe.

Do you find that you’ve got your own secret, gobbledygook language that only makes sense to you, and no one else?
When I’m following a complicated pattern, I find myself saying things like “two normal followed by three diamonds then jump one until the end,” or “a nugget every two stitches until the frame then one every other stitch.”
I won’t translate what this means, it’s a secret language after all 😝
I find this way helps me remember what I’m up to without having to check the chart ever three stitches 😅
Sometimes my wife overhears me muttering these jingles to myself, she’s learned not ask what they mean, only because she’s not a knitter and I’ll go in minute detail telling her what they mean and she starts falling asleep 😳

Had a listen to TOMORA’s COME CLOSER on the dog walk this morning.
TOMORA is a collaboration band between The Chemical Brothers’ Tom Rowlands and AURORA, a Norwegian ethereal kind of vocal artist.
As you can imagine, the album is quite a clash between the big beat electronic sounds of the former, and the haunting vocals of the latter.
I’m a fan of the former, not so much the latter, so the jury’s still out on this one.
Need a couple more listens.

When picking up your work after an extended break, do you find that it takes you 10-15 minutes to warm up and actually work at your usual pace?
And that you’re more likely to make mistakes during that warm up period?

Anyone else have the problem of not really wanting to play another game when a highly-anticipated game is coming out the next day?
Always happens to me, like today I really don’t fancy playing anything because PRAGMATA is out tomorrow.

@nprofile…shln yeah diazepam would have solved it quicker, it’s a muscle-relaxant and used for acute spasm which it sounds like you had and I did too.
I didn’t want to get any, I don’t like feeling zonked so I just tolerated it.
Interestingly, bed rest is now no longer recommended and admittedly I got better moving about during the day, but the first hour or two in the morning were pure hell.

@nprofile…shln well-remembered! I had a huge problem ages ago that lead to an operation.
Last Friday I had exactly the same back pain but thankfully without any leg pain (unlike last time) so I was hoping it would get better with physio and it did.
Been really bad though, at its worst I was mostly crawling around 😅

Friends.
Thanks to a crippling acutely locked back, I haven’t been able to sit up long enough to work on this scarf *sad face*
It started easing off yesterday so today I managed to work on another 15 rows, and it felt gooooood :)
The glade around the master sword is now complete, and if you look carefully you might see the start of a flying dragon ;)
Hopefully the stupid back will continue to improve and I can work on this in earnest.

#yarn #crochet #knitting friends, and anyone else really, I have a question:
I spotted a mistake in my mosaic crochet blanket so I had to rip out two rows to correct it. I then reused the same yarn to redo the ripped out rows.
When I finished them, I had a ton of spare tail left. As in, 10x longer than the original tails before I ripped out!

I triple checked the two rows that I redid and they were all correct with no mistakes nor dropped stitches etc.
I can only assume that yarn stretches when you work it? Or is there some other voodoo magic at work here?
It’s cheap acrylic yarn by the way, double knit weight (which I think is eight strands but I’m not sure)

Sometimes I love how a random article or conversation or whatever makes me load up something I own but never played and I end up finishing it, which makes me justify owning so much shit 😅
Plus: they’re all nice to look at.
