In Wirklichkeit besteht praktisch die gesamte real existierende “AI revenue" darin, dass sich AI Unternehmen gegenseitig Sachen ver- und abkaufen, nicht aus Umsatz mit den tatsächlichen Nutzern/Endkund*innen. Wenn Microsofts Tochter der Mutter Servernutzung für AI verrechnet, entsteht aus dem Nichts “AI revenue", obwohl nur Geld innerhalb des Konzerns verschoben wurde. Aber das muss halt gemacht werden, um vorzugaukeln, dass da irgendein Wachstum stattfinden würde. Der Vorgang hier ist more of the same.

Sure, formal recognition of Palestine is in many cases done to save face, primarily with Israeli interests in mind, to avoid charges of complicity, or to distract from the fact they continue to supply weapons etc.
But that the intention is bad faith doesn't necessarily mean recognition cannot be leveraged, or that this can at least be attempted.
An obvious one is that in those countries' legal systems, the occupation is no longer "merely" a matter of ignoring UN resolutions and ICJ rulings, but officially becomes an infringement of sovereignty of another state. Whether intended or not, there's no harm in trying out what legal avenues that opens up for legal complaints in countries now recognising Palestine with respect to settlers, trade with settlements, etc.

Das Modell gibt es bei uns auch, als sogenannte "Erbpacht".
Der Einwand ändert nichts an der Grundproblematik, dass die Höhe der effektiven Subvention unterschiedlich ausfällt, ob eine reine Miete oder ein Mietkauf stattfindet, und dass es überhaupt nicht klar ist, ob diese •zusätzliche• Subvention (wenn für die gleiche Miete jetzt auch noch das Eigentum übertragen wird) tatsächlich zielsicher ist. Davon könnte ja rechnerisch stattdessen auch die monatliche Zahlung gesenkt werden und es bleibt bei einem Mietverhältnis. Wer sagt, was die meisten bevorzugen würden? Späteres Eigentum für die jetzige Zahlung, oder weiterhin reine Miete für weniger Geld?

While the notion of “German has a word for that!" is somewhat exaggerated, you might appreciate how the German equivalent to "complying in advance”, which is “vorauseilender Gehorsam", is much more damning in its nuance and implication of sycophantic obsequiousness. “Gehorsam" is much more servile than "compliance”. In a private company, asking for “Gehorsam" with respect to procurement rules would raise a lot of eyebrows. And "vorauseilend" is not just “in advance", but implies an overly keen rushing ahead, like a servant running ahead to open a door by the time the master gets there.

Dass "niemand" weiß, und von den anderen niemand gefragt hätte, wie die Wirksamkeit von Impfstoffen quantifiziert wird und wie diese Zahlen zu interpretieren sind, ist doch Quatsch. Natürlich gibt es sowohl die Information als auch die Debatte.
Aber schlechtgemachte Wissenschaftskommunikation ist etwas anderes als selbsüchtige und strunzdumme Halbwahrheiten und Verschwörungstheorien.
Ich weiß nicht, was es da zu relativieren gibt und habe auch keine Lust auf so eine Diskussion. Es fängt ja schon damit an, bestreiten zu wollen, dass "Masken funktionieren nicht." Geschwurbel war und ist. Das kam ja von Leuten, die einfch keine Lust hatten, welche zu tragen, nicht aufgrund eines nuancierten Tröpfchen vs. Aerosole Arguments. Was ja sowieso akademisch ist, denn der springende Punkt war die korrekte Gleichung: mehr Maske = weniger Infektionsgeschehen. Aerosole hin oder her.
Aber wie gesagt: die Diskussion zu dem Thema ist für mich an diesem Punkt beendet.

Ich war froh, dass uns in Wien echte Absurditäten wie z.B. in Paris (Spazierengehen nur im X00 Meter Umkreis um die eigene Wohnung) erspart blieben, aber vieles andere wurde sogar zu lasch gehandhabt und die Schwurbler lagen ausnahmslos in absolut allem falsch. ‧Das‧ sollte noch einmal in aller Klarheit festgehalten werden, nicht ihre fakten-, wissenschafts- und menschenfeindlichkeit rückblickend irgendwie übertüncht werden.

Als demography-adjacent researcher (ich unterrichte das Fach auch an der Uni):
Kann ein Tippfehler ausgeschlossen werden?
Es gab sicher Populationen, in denen die meisten Frauen mehr oder weniger durchgehend schwanger und stillend waren, wo die kumulative Zahl an Zyklen vielleicht unter 100 lag. Aber davon waren Frauen im Mitteleuropa der 1920er ja weit entfernt.
Wenn wir die Differenz zur jetzigen Situation in den Fokus rücken:
- Der Unterschied in der Lebenserwartung wird kaum einen Unterschied machen, da weder niedrigere Kindersterblichkeit noch niedrigere Mortalität jenseits der 60 einen Einfluss haben. Genaugenommen wäre die Niedrigere Säuglingssterblichkeit jetzt sogar "kontraproduktiv", da beim Tod des Säuglings die Stillphase früher beendet wird.
- Die Verschiebung der unteren Altersgrenze (Menarche) sind nur ein paar Jahre und in der Zeit ist die Unregelmäßigkeit noch höher, d.h. die steuern unterdurchschnittlich wenige Zyklen bei.
- Die durchschnittliche Kinderzahl war hierzulande damals schon weit unter 4. Also wir reden hier vielleicht von 2 zusätzlichen erfolgreichen Schwangerschaften im Vergleich zu heute.
Es gibt zwar noch ein paar Nuancen (es kommt ja noch der Monat VOR der Befruchtung hinzu, und es dauert nach dem Ende des aktiven Stillend im Schnitt noch 1.5 Monate, bis der Zyklus wieder beginnt), aber die und evtl. Unterschiede in der Zahl der abgebrochenen Schwangerschaften können einen Faktor 10 nicht erklären. Da müsste die Unregelmäßigkeit damals schon wahnsinnig höher gewesen sein.
Also in Niger im Jahr 1920 vielleicht. Aber in Mitteleuropa bezweifle ich.
Evtl. bezog sich die Zahl ursprünglich auf das sogenannte hypothetische "natural fertility regime" und daraus wurde über eine Zitationskette erst "früher" und dann "vor hundert Jahren"?

I have an honest question to the public anarchist "mentors" on here (looking at @npub1s02…zz9t, @npub1l27…zpk4 et al.) about mutual aid.
For good reason, we dismiss philanthropic posturing by billionaires. One of the reasons (beyond “they shouldn't have it in the first place” etc.) is that it's not desirable for their arbitrary whims and the relative "sexiness" (in their eyes) of different causes to determine who benefits. Even just putting it into the general tax pool is preferable from that point of view.
With the kind of ad hoc mutual aid requests I'm seeing, how does endorsing that ⋅as a system⋅ (as opposed to on top of a state welfare system) not mean that people are more or less likely to get help for reasons nothing to do with true relative need? Socially awkward people get penalised for not asking, or asking "the wrong way". People without internet access get penalised for having less reach. Stochastic viral dynamics mean one person gets 10x what they asked for while another gets zero response. People are more likely to get help if they have "the right" kind of need, or have a better photo, or are more adept at describing their situation. Etc. etc.
How is that better than at least trying to have a system with transparent criteria for eligibility, automatisms to avoid the stigma of having to ask, pooling of resources and non-discriminatory distribution among all those in need? I'm decidedly not saying such a system requires a state, which is precisely why I'm puzzled why rejecting the state should imply jumping straight to individual ad hoc and arbitrary alms-giving that seems more medieval than progressive to me.
