Almost feels like there could be a need for 2 tags: one specific for transcripts intended to be used as captions or read along with timestamps and a second for things like web pages, PDFs, text files, and the like.
For myself, I don’t care all that much about VTT vs SRT but I’d choose VTT if I had to make a choice because of the expanded capability.

I have never had a podcast host that gives me the kind of analytics data that @npub1fkf…84sp does. I can get date- and time-stamped download information for all episodes at a level of granularity I could only request (and seldom receive) from previous hosts. Without coding an API call or a message to Suport. Just a simple CSV export. Makes the #analyst (and the #podcaster) in me very happy. Thanks Podhome!

Reading the feeds could miss a tag until at least one feed adds it. But it seems more likely to be accurate in my opinion.

I was just thinking about something like this yesterday. I didn’t remember that you already had it.
I would love to see this also as a matrix of selectable filters so that podcasters could quickly search for a host based on features offered. Ideally, based on tags available in the RSS feeds rather than what’s listed at podcastsapps.com, since I think that’s still a manual update.

Thanks for that Sam. I tried that yesterday and again today, but the status on the show page is still “Finished” and “Ended” on the episode page. I’m guessing there must also be something on the Podhome side, though I’m not sure what it would be since the episodes did play in Podcasr Guru and the new Podhome app when I tested there.

@npub1thg…zq23 I have a “throw away” show I’ve been using to recording live with Podhome. (Bad Podcast Pitches)
I record live and publish the final using the same episde. I’ve noticed that the episode tends to remain in “Ended” status in TrueFans rather than converting to a listenable download/stream after I publish the final. Wondering if there’s something I need to look at on my end to get it to work correctly in TrueFans.

For sure. I didn’t find their analysis to be deep enough to answer those questions and they are in the back of my head too. However, closing 2 factories at the same time (and overall 9% capacity reduction) is a significant concern for the workforce and potential leading indicator of struggles to come.

For me - I don’t think so. I’m not super interested in paywall content, though I see the value.
I was thinking more from the perspective of a competitive feature set vs. Captivate and Buzzsprout, which I think are kind of leading the pack in this on the media hosting side right now.

I think it depends on what features and if/how they integrate with hosting. Like, what Buzzsprout and Captivate offer is great in terms of tiered offerings like ad free, bonus content, etc. but they don’t offer flexibility in the “pay what it’s worth to you” area other than Showrunner defined options.
I’ll admit that this is still very much tied to integrated hosting in most cases, so maybe not as useful for non-hosting users.

They do. But I interpreted this to be more like a Patreon-style (or Buzzsprout or Captivate or BuyMeACoffee) fiat-based system rather than bitcoin/lightning.

I thought of one other thing I’d love to see - the option for the podcaster to give a split of the income (whether one-time or recurring) to the podcast app that the donation came from. Sort of like an affiliate referral fee for the apps, but turning into MRR for those donations that are recurring.

Depending on the terms, I’m interested. But I’m also in the process of moving my media hosting over to Podhome so I may not be the right person to answer the stand-alone question.
Features I’d be interested in:
- one time or recurring
- podcaster has the option to offer supporters a “choose your own amount”
- integration with some kind of messaging, chat, or comment system (possibly including audio feedback with transcription)
- payout options beyond just PayPal

Also, I’m not sure I fully understand the downside of allowing listening without registration. Not being able to send emails and notifications, maybe?

As a user, I like the idea of being able to at least try an app out before I start sharing PII with and app or platform. Especially with some of the up and coming apps. I delayed trying TrueFans for a while because of the requirement.
However, to your point, some of the most popular apps don’t really allow that.

I know that [@samsethi](https://podcastindex.social/@samsethi), [@theDanielJLewis](https://podcastindex.social/@theDanielJLewis) and others are working on cross-app comments. A couple of apps already include this in some fashion. I think there are still a some bugs to work out.
I think listening would still be in an app, comments could be in-app, but potentially pushed to a federated location like Mastodon.
We have now exceeded the limits of my expertise. :-)
