Anyways, this is to say, I really understand where a lot of new programmers are coming from when they say, "How do I install Python"--that is a relatively simple answer, but behind the question is the bigger question:
What tooling should I install to use Python? How should I use Python? What things seem like simple solutions but might cause me headaches in the future?
I want to know those answers too. There's lots of "you could also do x" but there's less, "x+y+z works, but x+y+v will be bad."

I am really good at bumbling around and making things work, but after a point it's easy to have painted myself into a corner and that's probably my biggest barrier to starting and just going for it--knowing the difference between what is a functional solution in the short term that'll hurt the long term, vs a solution that shouldn't cause problems down the line.
(My old conda base environment got so polluted I couldn't create new virtual environments.. I'm really good at finding those problems)

I "recently" fixed up my pc with a new harddrive to boot from, and more ram, and in the process upgraded a bunch of things and took it as a chance to "Start Fresh" with everything Python/programming.
And goodness, maybe its me, but that first hurdle of "starting" python is a lot. I've never used PyCharm, UV, any virtual environment management, etc.
I'm good enough with python, but all of the tooling has changed so much that I don't know how to avoid shooting myself in the foot when starting.

I firmly believe platform moderation needs more freedom to remove and ban for non-CoC violation level actions.
Moderation is, very strongly, in part trying to encourage good behavior, and work to stop bad behavior. Some conversations are volatile and if someone is hyperfixated on that, then a mute/ban etc for a period can act as a way to let time pass for everyone to cool off.
Only tying moderation's ability to act to a CoC really ties their hands to reacting vs curating.

Holy cow this is reflecting and echoing a ton of things that have been bouncing around in my head today.
I don't know if the post/threads combined with my thoughts are cacophonous or in harmony, but it's been the thing foremost in my mind.
I've been in a headspace about thinking of maintaining resources, not leading an org, so it's not a 1 to 1, but thinking about growth, stability, longevity, and technical (and related) debt. So these perspectives are timely to read.

If it's the orange alien site, most communities there have the same rule in place. Because. You know. It's a smart idea.
