We’ve done it a few times now, I sleep with the kids and my husband drives (farmer, so he’s used to monotonous driving for hours on end), however our youngest (1yo) hates the car so I’ve actually booked her and I on a flight a few hours into our journey, so if it’s not going well we’ll jump on a plane and meet them there. When they’re older definitely do it in the day time, I have great memories from childhood road-trips! Singing (screaming) “bat outta hell” at the top of our lungs with the windows down. 😊

Mushrooms on the menu today. Top tip my chef sister taught me, adding mushrooms to a hot dry pan and let them sweat BEFORE adding copious amounts of butter. Concentrates the flavour better. 🍄‍🟫

Weird, I was literally thinking about making one of these yesterday! Intrigued how quickly they move in. We have a bee problem because they keep landing and drowning in our plunge pool. Tried floats, that saved a few. I think I might have to just move all of the pollinators away from the water and create a better oasis for them. 🐝

Ahhh, good to know!! Thanks! I’ve been a bit rough with them, kept moving them because I’ve been learning about the landscape as I go and the pests! 🐌 The snails/slugs don’t eat the peonies, so I’ve finally settled them in a bed with some other slug proof plants.

I find I appreciate these things more when they take time and effort—I love peonies for this reason. I’ve been growing a few plants in our garden for four years now, and they’re yet to flower, but I keep at it because one day they will reward me with their beauty.

Just want to say this for anyone else who needs to hear it—because I know I do sometimes.
Full-time parenting is really bloody hard work.
It’s invisible work. Necessary work.
Chaotic work. Important work.
Mentally draining work. Incredibly rewarding work—sometimes.
It doesn’t always feel meaningful in the moment. It doesn’t come with digestible feedback or recognition. But it really matters. Showing up for your children makes a difference.
It’s not forever.
Relish the good and the bad. It’s all part of the journey.
I feel like this perhaps should be a given, but it needs to be said out loud more often. We have forgotten the importance of parenting.

I feel like I’m awake inside a movie most of the time. It’s quite surreal. I stopped feeling self conscious of it a long time ago and just enjoy the novelty.

I’ve lived in Germany for nearly four years, and I still don’t speak the language confidently.
Part of that is circumstance. I’m a full-time mum, so I’m not constantly exposed to it. But if I’m honest, there’s another reason; I’ve come to like not fully understanding.
When you don’t speak the language fluently, conversations around you turn into background noise instead of information. I’m not automatically processing every word, tone, or social cue. For someone like me who naturally tunes into everything, that’s a relief.
It feels like “noisy silence.” The world is still loud, but it doesn’t demand my attention in the same way. I can choose when to listen.
There’s also less pressure in social situations. People expect less small talk, fewer interactions. I’m given space by default.
I guess I’ll be fluent eventually, but for now, I’m actually enjoying the peace of not understanding.
As they say, “Ignorance is bliss.” For the first time, I’m aware of it while I’m in it.
