That was my experience. I thought Nostr would be fun, I wanted to like it, but the only conversations I ever see is people talking about Nostr itself, or Bitcoin, and nothing else. I didn't feel like anybody was really having real conversations or even just having any fun there.

From what I've heard, it's currently illegal to desecrate/disrespect a foreign flag under Japanese law, but not the Japanese flag. That's frankly speaking completely absurd. I'm not surprised people are asking for the law to be applied evenly across the board.

So, has anybody else experienced or heard of attempted fraudulent bank charges from a company called "Respontika"? I've heard anecdotally that banks have been dealing with these by the thousands over the past month or two.
From what I could see, Respontika is some online scam offering personality tests/online horoscopes. The normal scam is they charge a dollar for their "service", then attempt to pull anywhere from $15 to $40 after the fact and hope they get away with it.
But the stories I'm now hearing are that people who had nothing to do with Respontika, who never signed up for their shitty online personality test, are also getting hit with the same effects. First a one dollar transaction that slips the net, and then an attempted charge of $40 that recently is getting flagged as fraudulent by default.
Looking into Respontika as a legal entity, they're registered in Delaware (though not as an LLC, so I don't know how anonymous it is). But it seems weird to me that the bank fraud behaviour is extending to completely unrelated people who haven't touched their shitty website.

If you want to keep content at the rate/scale you have now, you'll need large corporations. And they'll always be easily censored. So if that's a requirement, then yes, you're fucked.
I realize it's not anime, but Space King is a good example of a model that seems to work out. Good quality animation, infrequent as it might be, funded largely by fan support via merchandise. It can be done, but not at the scale we're used to. So I'm just saying, either lower your expectations in the name of being free, or accept that you'll always have either globalist shitlibs or conservatard zealots adding studio notes to things you love.

- reply

People can surprise you when they have their backs to the wall. But I don't think of it as "fighting" censorship so much as avoiding it. Or rather, ignoring it and routing around it. Some people will be willing to go underground, some will come around to it eventually. Most won't, but that's just the way people are.
The trick is to make the cost of enforcement as high as possible. As long as enforcing a law is too costly and difficult to do reliably, there's room for people to go underground.

2025-10-05 14:07:33 UTC

- reply

I think censorship was in the cards no matter what, and personally I'd say looking to government to help with that is a lost cause. I expect censorship from anybody with power, whatever party/faction/side they happen to be with.
Anti-censorship measures work best when they're bottom-up, not top-down. Torrenting has survived a quarter century because of this, and any good solution needs to follow the same blueprint. Swarm them with a thousand nodes of a distributed network and all they can really do is try to cut heads off the hydra faster than they grow back. Some people will get caught under the boot (sadly), but the whole will be able to survive.
There will be a reckoning where people making and distributing otaku media have to decide whether they're going to be cucks to the censors or operate like outlaws. People who choose the former will get winnowed out, and the rest will have to form subcultures of their own. Fedi is already starting to grow into the latter from what I can see.
As for Takaichi, all I really want from her is to be an absolute hardass on immigration, keep the low-quality third-worlders out, and address the needs of Japan for the Japanese first and foremost. The censorship shit we can deal with, and we'd get it either way, so it's better to only have that to deal with and not be doubly burdened with infinity browns and Muslim headchoppers forming enclaves.

2025-10-04 08:47:14 UTC

Probably. At this stage, all I care is that she's pro-nationalist and anti-globalist. The rest can be handled on a technical level. Any measures pushed by JGov can be routed around. Without Globalist power backing them up, they're not a significant threat.

Takaichi - 36

Kagawa - Takaichi (~35%)
Nara - Takaichi (~87%)
Okinawa - Koizumi (~56%)
Ibaraki - Koizumi (~33%)
Nara is apparently Takaichi's biggest fan. Ibaraki was a very tight race, with Takaichi only 3 points behind Koizumi. Okinawa was a strong Koizumi backer, but no surprise there.

Nagasaki - Takaichi (~40%)
Tokushima - Takaichi (~42%)
Saitama - Takaichi (~41%)
Ishikawa - Takaichi (~45%)
Yamanashi - Hayashi (~35%)
Tochigi - Motegi (~62%)
Takaichi now has 17 prefectures to Koizumi's one win in Aomori, and a couple of wins to third tier candidates. Takaichi's performance is very strong so far, but this is far from over.

@npub19yg…wysk I'm on Mitra v4.8.0 and I've noticed some unexpected behavior with lightboxed images. When I click on an image to view it in lightboxed mode, large images (particularly images in portrait mode) blow up larger than screen resolution and get cut off by the bottom of the screen. Landscape mode photos don't seem to be affected this way, but I suspect the images may be scaled based on width rather than height. Not sure if this is isolated to certain image file types or not, need to test more.

Would the card companies demand its removal entirely, or would they be satisfied with simply removing credit card purchasing option for the "objectionable content" in question? Is that kind of granular payment setting even possible?
It obviously would still be shit, and freeze out a lot of customers, but it would allow some sales as opposed to none, and direct more attention to the use of stablecoins as customers find out about the credit card option removal.

Unfortunately, yes. The last known information as of last Friday was:
> **UPDATE: 07/18/2025 (July 18th, 2025) 4PM EST:**> Maintenance finished. Component that arrived from the manufacturer today was DOA, preventing the device to boot after we completed a swap. Reverted back to the old component and previous state of service. Having planned for this (or similar) possibility, we have a new plan to return things to their previous production quality levels. More on that soon.
I've been using this provider for years, they've always been smooth sailing. This is the first time anything like this has happened, and I'm starting to wonder if somebody's deliberately sabotaging them because this many screw-ups happening all at once is long odds.
First the datacenter shits the bed post-relocation, after it passed testing and benchmarking pre-relocation. Then the replacement part to fix it gets mav'd to the wrong country, THEN the replacement part doesn't work when it does arrive. I really feel like something's going on.

We are 3 days on from this, and unfortunately still affected. Maybe the datacenter shitting itself on a Friday is related, and nobody wanted to do weekend overtime, idk. Incoming activity queue is still backed up in the thousands, and DNS resolution on the VPS is unstable if it works at all.
I'll be chasing after the provider on this, but until something changes this server is basically stuck 48 to 72 hours in the past and there's very little I can do about it. Mea culpa.
cc @npub1n45…k3p7

2025-07-10 23:28:28 UTC

FYI, to anybody local to this instance (probably only @npub1n45…k3p7 i guess), there's been some post-migration whoopsie at the new datacenter for the VPS host which has caused some pretty bad lag spikes. The incoming federation activity queue is backed up worse than a gas station shitter, so we're getting activity on a 10+ hour delay.
Repairs are underway and should fix the issue within the day. Please bear with it until things get smoothed out.

I see Odysee has finally starting shifting gears to their Arweave-based monetization system:
https://odysee.com/@Odysee:8/introducingdecentralizedpaymentsonodyseeforeveryoneeverywhere:7
> Our new payments system is built upon the Arweave Blockchain and powered by Arweave (AR) cryptocurrency. In future, we will be adding support for USD Stable Coins.
> Currently it is integrated via Wander Wallet. We opted to build something oriented around cryptocurrency as it's decentralized, borderless, and the only real option that would be truly censorship-resistant by design.
> Our payments feature isn’t limited to content creators. Think of it like a global peer-to-peer cash app only without restrictions. If someone has an Odysee account with Wander Wallet enabled, you can send them one time payments. Whether they’re a friend, a fellow community member, or someone offering services, you can use Odysee as a general-purpose payment tool.
Arweave (AR) appears to be something similar to STORJ or Filecoin (and the now defunct LBRY Credits/LBC). No doubt the LBRY backend of Odysee is now going to shift to storage on Arweave's protocol. It's novel that they're advertising the payment network bolted on as more than just a content creator tipping service... in fact, given the trouble LBRY/Odysee had with the SEC, I have to ask why they're loudly advertising that they're creating a payment network instead of an integrated, internal points system.
A more conspiratorial person might suggest their future integration of Stablecoins means they're on-board with a future integration of CBDCs, under government control... meaning they're given the greenlight to go ahead with this now that they've got a government hand up their ass. But that's just a theory... a schizo theory.
Meanwhile, it's interesting that the only note they have about LBC is that it's "going away". No announcement of support for conversion to the new AR currency attached to Odysee, nor any support portal for selling or exchanging it. LBC will likely just get quietly mothballed and go straight to zero.
This isn't a huge issue since the current price of LBC means even somebody with thousands of them only has enough money to buy a sandwich (maybe), but I'm sure there has to be some whale sitting on bags of LBC who's gnashing their teeth right now.
Personally, I'm happy to keep using Odysee as a dumping ground for stream VODs, but I wouldn't expect the New Improved Arweave Odysee to revolutionize much of anything.

The Android Open Source Project is a publicly developed branch of Android which is used by other developers to create customized Android builds. A lot of non-Google Android phones use modified AOSP code for their own devices (Galaxy phones etc)
AOSP is also used to help develop after-market OSes (like Lineage and Graphene). Recently Google announced that AOSP development is going to be moved inside the company, and as such code will be less visible and less available. Everybody has to wait for a full release before they can adapt changes.
For projects like GrapheneOS this is a problem because now their ability to push updates is bottlenecked by the speed of AOSP releases. Combined with other anti-competitive Google practices, the ability to make Graphene work smoothly on Pixel 10 and future Pixel phones can't be guaranteed.
The Graphene people are now talking about crowdfunding to hire a manufacturer to produce phones with hardware specs designed for GrapheneOS... shit's expensive as fuck.
So yeah, Google's starting to close shit off and its making everybody else's life more difficult.

2025-06-12 23:59:43 UTC

Holy shit... I heard the AOSP situation was getting dire, but GrapheneOS is actually talking about crowding bespoke OEM hardware now :omg:

It's is a much bigger and more ambitious map than my first outing, and I'm sure it's in desperate need of outside eyes to help find and quash bugs. I'm mainly coordinating beta testing over at https://forums.thedarkmod.com/ , but if anybody plays DarkMod and wants to do some testing "out of band" over here, please feel free. I'd be happy to respond to feedback here.

This weekend, it isn't a skin condition OR a socially unacceptable fetish, it's actually a video game! In the same vein as SCORN, prepare for Beksinki- and Giger-inspired horrors beyond your comprehension and mine. Will it just be a walking simulator, or will genuine spoops be had? Tune in to find out.

This weekend, 800 yen is on the line for After Midnight Games as we try out a Linux-native indie RPG. It's cheap-as-free on Steam, but if we're impressed enough after 4 hours of playtime they'll earn a sale of the Supporter Pack.

Slasher Movie Idea: A group of Kick streamers on vacation in a small Japanese town are getting killed one by one, with only their VODs as clues to who the killer is. The authorities drag their heels, seemingly on purpose, as signs point to a vengeful samurai ghost stalking the remaining streamers every night after sunset.
I'm thinking Found Footage style, film made of stitched together VODs, chat scroll included.

I generally don't know my ass from my elbow when it comes to programming, but today I had an AI write a simple bash script for me, and it was actually really helpful as a learning tool. I generally have low patience for learning groundwork shit, and want to jump straight to some specific thing I want to accomplish here and now. Having an AI write the script for me, I get an object example of something I want done, which I can then study and observe its moving parts... editing it where necessary to fix shit that doesn't quite fit and making it work smoothly.
I know asking an AI to write shit for you is looked down on as a crutch, but for a low-level beginner if used correctly its actually a halfway decent learning tool.

Selaco devs have decided to get retarded. It's funny when it happens to shit games, but Selaco was actually fun and well made... shame.

I thought the artstyle looked familiar. These are the same people who did a collab with Penny Arcade back in the day, where a "sex educator" talks about masturbation & sex toys with one of the PA artist's children:
