We're trying out something really cool on one of our client apps, showing where accounts originate on the Social Web in the feed!

Understanding what makes a social platform a community isn't straightforward. I'm very far from a sociologist, so I'm probably not the right person to ask, but as we look at growing the Social Web I think it's an important question. How do we help platforms become more?

One of my favourite (ironically) stories of LGBTQ+ history is Queen Anne's chambermaid, Abigail Hill.
Whilst there's, obviously, no concrete evidence, Abigail was described as the 'Slut of State' (among other things) by a jealous ex-chambermaid of the Queen.
This story inspired the 2018 film, The Favourite!

Don't you just love moderation reports that expect you to spend half a day being a detective? 🕵️‍♂️
My guess would be that it's an account they set up and now don't want. But, they could explain that in the report 😅

RE: https://jaz.co.uk/2026/01/13/there-is-one-fediverse-there-are-a-thousand-ways-to-join-it/
"There is no “pick a server” screen or “find your instance”. There is no friction. This is not “a Mastodon app”; it is the Tŵt app, purpose-built for our community."
This is a vision of the Social Web which I'm sure many won't agree with or, potentially, won't even understand.
But, like @npub1hg6…nwn8 I'm pretty certain this is the future. We need to make spaces which are accessible to the general user, that just take them where they want to go without a scavenger hunt.
I'm so excited for this app and seeing how it can serve the existing community, Welsh people, and everyone else who wants to call it home 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

RE: https://about.iftas.org/2026/01/08/the-2025-social-web-trust-safety-report-is-here/
Really interesting insight into trust and safety on the Social Web that I'd recommend anyone in this space reads.
Social platforms have to be safe and to be safe they must be moderated. There are learnings in here about the work moderators do that I think far too many of us take for granted.

Thank you @npub10j9…90pt for everything you have taught me, for keeping me sane and talking me down in moments where things seemed hopeless.
Newsmast would not be where it is without you. I can't wait to see what you do next!
Thank you for everything and hopefully see you around...

My relationship with the Social Web is a bit of a rollercoaster, it goes up and down and up and down 🎢
At the minute, we're up, in a big way. I dare say we might stay here with the everything we're building at @npub142g…kmy5, the leadership of @npub10gc…0m2k, and the work @npub108s…tznn and others are doing in the EU.
Let's keep it up!

This is the app we've been showcasing in person and online for the past month.
I am SO glad it is finally out there and people who haven't yet seen this app can begin to understand what we're doing and why.
Finally, people get the Newsmast mission to bring together knowledge sharing communities!

Something crazy is happening in the UK.
In the face of Reform (which leads the polls in older generations), young people are turning to the Greens.
If you want to learn more about the Greens, I made a @npub1wkk…exdr Channel! It even includes posts from the party leader, [@greenpartyzack](https://threads.net/@greenpartyzack/ ) (who I think is the only UK party leader on the Social Web!).
I wonder how the other UK parties will respond to this threat... Join the Fediverse?

At @npub142g…kmy5 we're doing some really exciting things, but one of the problems with doing cool and exciting things is finding the words for them.
In my latest blog post, I discuss how we label a news AND social app...
