oh i assure i you already can't read what i wrote in cursive two minutes earlier, this is only going to increase the security of my introspection-devoid journaling habit

to be fair like in high school i stumbled into what i thought was a cool antique fountain pen which almost immediately became unusable because it was probably actually a cheapie thing and i guess i've just been a fountain pen sleeper agent ever since, waiting to be activated by confusion and depression

2026-07-06 14:38:42 UTC

anyway i've reached the "maybe i'm a fountain pen guy now" phase of my midlife "how can i avoid actually doing anything constructive with my life" crisis

i've historically listened to the Syntax podcast a bit here and there but eventually dropped it pretty hard after it became clear from the show titles and notes that the guys over there were absolutely balls deep in AI; no thanks, i don't need to listen to that, thank you for making me feel less guilty for basically listening to nothing but funny movie podcasts all the time

i don't want to do schadenfreude, really, BUT

The fundamental project of the Internet is people sharing information with each other.
The fundamental project of AI is to capture and control all of that information.

Running's been a bit of a struggle since the race (post race blues + life/work stress + "oh my glob it cold now"). But...I just managed to cross off mile 1100 for the year (and 1101 and 1102) which puts me like 130 over last year? We'll see what kind of momentum I can build up before the year's end.

it’s funny, I keep forgetting I’m still supposed to read that book. I think I struggled enough with book 2 that I haven’t felt truly compelled to move ahead (and I’m a sucker for series completionism)

Okay, am I wrong? Is the new netlify pricing plan actively hostile toward personal, human-powered static site blogs?

no prob, some days feels like half my day job is just being like "is this color contrast okay" over and over, hope my hair trigger response came across as friendly enough 🤣

And yup, stuck a little string-to-date converter as needed in my filters and I'm good to go. Easy!
Next question probably is more involved—is it possible to set an automatic file naming per collection/schema? I typically don't name my files but just give them an automatic filename based on date. Absolutely not a big deal and I can add this as a feature request issue if you want to file it away for the future.

Oh wow, I think I figured it out—Mattrbld is writing the date to the front matter surrounded by single quotes, where my existing process does not, and my url filters read the quoted version as an invalid date. I think I can accommodate for the difference on my side!

Yeah I have to play around a bit. I think I have some weird customizations in place to make things work for the other cms app I’ve been using, now I have to see if I can get everything to play nice together….!

Integrated it into one of my blogs last night and I’m loving it. I do have a question (well, maybe a couple). Is it possible to fine tune how a datetime is written out? Looks like the iso format mattrbld is writing to my front matter is incompatible with how my blog is doing url paths. (I need to look at it closer to see if I can adjust something on the site generator side too to see if I can adjust something on that side…)

oh yeah! I made a junk repo just to take it for a test spin and as I saw what it was doing I became quite impressed. Looks like I could pretty easily point it at a test branch of one my blogs, get it all set up, and once I'm happy with it merge it right in. It feels like a very cool take on this sort of thing...!

2025-01-31 18:39:50 UTC

okay just played with @npub1nx8…kl34 by @npub1dau…34ue for like ten minutes and it looks *slick*. That said I just jumped right in without really reading the docs so TBD what I'm missing yet. Still I think there's little harm in me trying it as an alternate back-end for my static site blogs...
