i think a good middle ground for letting people to have private discussions on fediverse is just allowing people to do PGP themselves or in 3rd party clients, with a "buyer beware" kind of scenario
building it into servers puts a lot more responsibility in the hands of server admins. and risk for abuse. i don't want my admin holding onto my private keys and i don't necessarily trust my server to generate keys for me either ...
people with the know-how to generate and manage their own keys can deal with the potential negatives and headaches associated with it. just running servers as they already exist is plenty of work for mastodon admins i would imagine

I stay away from aromatics; less flavor + harder to dry. Sometimes I dry my tobacco in my food dehydrator lol. Pretty much had to retire my briars since moving out here, sadly. Corncobs still do okay when it's >95% humidity.

as a brewer and distiller I am pretty skeptical that they made this simply by fermenting malt. it tastes like a beer with cheap vodka added to it. What really impresses me is that it sells at the same price as normal beers at my illicit alcohol vendor. I had my fair share of Steel Reserve at punk parties in Portland roughly 2014-2019 and it's definitely more drinkable than those. Unlike SR it tastes clean like a proper lager. and there's none of the distinctive yuck of turbo yeast flavor
Alcohol in my city is treated the same way weed was treated in PNW USA before legalization. People are discrete about consumption and alcohol enjoyers are in the minority, but people hint that they partake if they sense someone is "cool". Cops take bribes from vendors and if a vendor doesn't pay up, cops make an example of them, smashing seized bottles on social media (and commenters always note that the top shelf liquor bottles never seem to be smashed).
I appreciate that attitude toward alcohol -- beats having to deal with public drunks and streets reeking of liquor -- and that same attitude against it motivated me to get into the hobby of brewing and distilling. It's entertaining too when I go to parties at the town bootlegger's house and police leaders and judges are there, and funny seeing hijab girls line up at the spot in town that sells soju

I can somewhat confirm this from firsthand experience in Indonesia.
While religion is a main exoteric vector people bond across here, ethnic groups are really the esoterically prime form of identity and people within ethnic groups meet via religious vectors as a proxy for ethnic relations (eg there are many Christians but Dayak Christians are a different group than Chinese Christians). (Or Chinese Buddhists will bond with Chinese Christians rather than Javanese Buddhists)
The minority groups with significant presence in my city all have their own unions, which are partially recognized by government
Compared to asking white people in America "okay but what kind of white person are you?" in Indonesia , people are very quick to announce what ethnic subgroup they belong to / assign new people they meet as belonging to ethnic group X or Y, language is another tool that augments "ethnic assessment" as every ethnic has their own living language to compliment the national language (speak Indonesian at the office or school , but say South Sulawesi natives speak Bugis in their in-group, out-group members can have some difficulty tracking discourse)
An interesting phenomena: because my wife has small eyes and attends a Buddhist temple, the Chinese majority of our temple refer to her with titles of address specific for Chinese people rather than "proper" ones, I am always "mister" due to being white but sometimes wife privately admits being uncomfortable being lumped in with the Chinese as a part of them because she is not in fact ethnically Chinese
Within Islam, the specific ethnic traditions within Islam supersede what is generally considered "Islamic". in my neck of the woods. all interesting to observe as an outsider

We mixed it down with various mixers but a big benefit of mixing the pure ethanol with mixers (as opposed to vodka) is the mixer flavors are stronger because the hooch isn't 60% water or whatever. Also artisanal moonshine lacks the "heads" and "tails" that make cheaper vodkas taste gross / lead to hangovers. You just need to be disciplined because it is soooo easy to drink. Including water and electricity I think it cost me about $8 to make 3 liters of 95% abv?
