Normally my wife cuts my hair (she learned how pre Covid to save money).
But we are going on a trip and I wanted it cut before, not enough time for her to do it.
Off to the barber, he’s been in business 17 years.
He says that since Covid, 19 barbers have closed their doors just within out county, not counting chains like sports/great clips.
The scissors he uses now cost $600, up from $450 pre Covid. Prices went up because less shops are there to buy them.
And then remote workers (like me) not coming in as regularly as before.
He had to take 25k from retirement to keep the shop open and it’s still not back to how it was 3 years ago, but he has scrimped and saved to try and get back on his track.
We talked about #Bitcoin next, and what I thought.
Haircut was $22, I paid 30, and offered to send him bitcoin too but he didn’t have his phone? Maybe next time. I’d guess he’s in his 50’s… probably has a smart phone.
But at least left him with my podcast website on a card and hope he listens.

I think you miss something a lot of the times because you are so willfully ignorant about it.
It can come across as really naive and you shut down the convo because you lack intellectual curiosity.
You don’t read macroeconomics well
Everyone doesn’t care and they are worse off for it.

Here’s something crazy… how many can say this?
I got into #Bitcoin at my Dad and Sister’s suggestion.
Both someone born in the 60’s and a woman, both pretty rare in the space.
This was in 2017.
I have since far surpassed their knowledge of the subject when it comes to custody, etc.
But still, I’m pretty lucky.

I had a Facebook tiff with a guy whose mastermind I used to be in over #Bitcoin
He asked what the biggest financial challenge an 18 year old will face in the next 25 years will be.
I responded with stuff about inflation, etc, and how Bitcoin helps.
He kind of went with it and I added more.
Another commenter said the same thing and he brought me into his comment thread.
So we shared some resources and thoughts to get started but he said he doesn’t care.
Then I said something about everyone getting the price they deserve and taking an orange suppository.
He ended up kicking me out of the thread

What would y’all pay to have your yard cut? Or say a typical .2/.3 acre lot in the suburbs?
Or what do you pay?
Or would you pay by the hour?
I was recently out of town for a few weeks and there was a kid whose mom posted about her 15 year old mowing yards, so I took him up on it.
He came over to mow and see the yard once before I left, I do have a half acre lot and use a push mower.
It takes me an hour.
This kid quoted me $100.
I said “that’s pretty high, I was thinking 40-60”
We settled on $75.
He did a good job and all and maybe he or his mower was slower. I clocked him getting it done in an hour 15 but I also saw him take a couple breaks whereas I push straight through.
Still, that’s $60/hour for a kid, more than I make in data analytics currently.
He asked if he could keep mowing and I said he’s too expensive.
I would mow a yard for $30 an hour, but that’s just me

One of the most gratifying things to me is being known as a “finance guy.”
Someone I haven’t talked to in over a year texted me this morning asking about online bank accounts.
This is a person I’ve had dinner with twice maybe and had some limited interaction with at church over the course of a year or so while he did a rotation clerking for a judge in my area.
So not only did I explain some of the features of SoFi, but also some of the risks inherent in traditional banking, BTFP, and sprinkled in owning 1% of a #bitcoin as a starting point.
