BSDs (Free/Open/Net/Dragonfly/...) should pick up some framework and fork it and evolve it in needed way. I would 'vote' for GTK2/GTK3.
Common ground for various DEs.
I would say the same about WiFi drivers - lets create a common 'glue' WiFi drivers interface and share WiFi drivers across BSDs.
But that is just 'wishful thinking' from my side ...

KDE removed FreeBSD support from Plasma login manager stating that KDE/Plasma relies systemd(1)/logind(1) Linux daemons.
FreeBSD should not waste time to work on adding KDE/Plasma desktop install button in bsdinstall(8) installer.
Use MATE/XFCE instead.

Thank You for reply ... but its not the case.
Overlay(s) work well with 'poudriere bulk' command and Mariusz added support to attach them to 'poudriere jail' command ... and that was mostly ignored ... even as he followed general STYLE of the code.
That is the problem.
... and its WAITING there to be commited since September ... while the Poudriere code lives and is modified ... and every modification to Poudriere make that commit harder to just 'apply' ... its really a SYSTEM problem.

Overlay(s) are great feature of Poudriere on FreeBSD.
Recently @oshogbovx proposed patches to add Overlay(s) to 'poudriere jail' command - which is needed and useful.
But its 'silence' since initial interest ... that can discourage a lot.

KDE/Plasma is a funny thing for me.
KDE/QT was always ugly.
Recently with KDE/Plasma 5/6 it became better in visuals and generally started looking nice and being more usable ... and then KDE/Plasma project announced that they will not support any X11 server in the future and only Wayland will be supported.
... and that is the moment - same as GNOME - in which they stopped to exist for me.
I am not interested in solutions that do not support X11 display server.

Another example of pointless EU money waste ... there already such license exists and its called BSD license ... and its already translated to all EU members languages and works in their legislate/law systems.
Its literally two sentences saying that:
- keep the info who wrote it
- do whatever you like with it - no guarantee included
What better license do you need for really free and open software?
... and as usual - the EU fucked up to do their job properly - as they fail to add 'BSD ' license in their "Appendix- Compatible Licenses" part of the EUPL license - while BSD license is compatible with EVERYTHING.
I would say "I am disappointed" - but that would mean that I not expect this ...

As I was not in the call I would comment here.
From what I remember HAST is only limited to TWO systems - so relying on that one for multi-node Bhyve cluster seems not a solution - like 8 nodes for example.
One can utilize other FreeBSD less known feature - GEOM GATE - with ggated(8) and ggatec(8) commands.
Its serving a block device over TCP/IP - that means each host from the 8 nodes of Bhyve cluster can 'serve' its ZFS ZVOL or disk over TCP/IP and the 'master' node can use them all and use some ZFS zpool there or other redundant filesystem - and it does not have to be cluster or distributed filesystem. When the 'master' will fail - then one of the other cluster members will take over the role and mount filesystem on these GEOM GATE nodes on itself. It will require some scripting - sure - but the tools are there.
Just an idea that can be utilized to make Sylve and/or FreeBSD better.

PKGBASE is not mandatory - its experimental - even for 15.x series - I believe all the problems will be solved in time - you can still use 'classic' way of using/installing FreeBSD.

I attached the SSDs, then created new ZFS pool there (raidz) - then created ZFS encrypted dataset (not GELI) - set some defaults like recordsize=1m and ZSTD compresion ... and started to fill it with my data over ssh(1) with rsync(1) with 1GE LAN speed of about 97-110MB/s.

I wonder when iwlwifi(4) will be renamed to iwl(4) because ... its the ONLY FreeBSD WiFi driver that has 'wifi' suffix.
IMHO either add 'wifi-' prefix to all WiFi drivers or rename iwlwifi(4) to iwl(4) so it will be in the same naming convention as all others.

I know, its limitations of platforms like X or Blue Sky that have these character limits ... so I just use ONE way that works across them all ... which is far from perfect but yeah - that way its faster ... but its less readable.

You can still install FreeBSD 15-CURRENT in 'classic' mode - not sure how the state would be at 15.0-RELEASE - but as PKGBASE is now still experimental - I assume that 15.x series would be the last with freebsd-update(8) support.

The biggest problem is that on 'classic' FreeBSD system without PKGBASE the pkg delete -af is harmless to Base System - it will just remove packages - and on PKGBASE ... yeah.

I have run FreeBSD with 2 x 2TB ZFS mirror with 512 MB RAM for years - and IMHO 256 MB is also fine for FreeBSD with ZFS with these two in /etc/sysctl.conf file:
# ZFS ARC MIN 32MB
vfs.zfs.arc.min=33554432
# ZFS ARC MAX 64MB
vfs.zfs.arc.max=67108864
With FreeBSD on UFS/SUJ 128MB will also be fine.
... and that 'last two decades' CPU limit is only for not-yet-released FreeBSD 15.x.
With FreeBSD 14 and older versions you need Pentium Pro or compatible - which means 1995 CPU - 3 decades.
... but yes - NetBSD will literally run on anything :D

What FreeBSD version You use on this?
While things mostly Kinda works with 14.3-RELEASE I have two problems with this device.
1. The NVMe disks can disappear - but after I unscrew them and screw again - they work.
2. NVMe controller timeouts ...

Whenever I hear such bullshit I reply them with this:
Its pointless to have Linux anyway when there are better desktop alternatives such as macOS or Windows.
From the other news - I have been using FreeBSD on my personal desktop/laptop since 20 YEARS - and I plan to do it for the rest of my life - because it just has a lot more useful features for me then Linux/macOS/Windows even combined together.
Not to even mention its a lot more simple/sane/sensible ...
I am more then OK with using (if I have to) Slack/Webex/Teams in the browser where they work perfectly fine.

Its kinda a good idea.
I would leave rctl(8) settings to /etc/rctl.conf file - but just to DISPLAY used CPU and RAM is a good idea. I will try to make that possible in the following month.

One of the 'problems' of FreeBSD is that there are no more or less official TRAININGS about FreeBSD.
You have to learn it yourself.
I do not think that copying dozens of various Red Hat trainings schema would be good - but TWO 5-DAY trainings would be great.
1. Basics.
2. Really advanced stuff like VLAN networks with if_bridge/netgraph + VNET Jails + Bhyve migration between hosts with vm-bhyve + Poudriere + ... etc.
Of course both of these trainings MUST be with EXERCISES - like with Red Hat or other trainings.
So each section/topic needs to be HANDS ON always after the 'theoretical knowledge'.
We live in a post pandemic world - so it will have to be available in some online form - Guide Book in PDF - Exercises Book in PDF - and (optional) 'presentation' VIDEO by some lector - and also a contact via meet/webex/jitsi/... to ask questions etc.

Hi mate - I am find and I hope You are fine too - and no - Your Journal initiative is not a problem for me at all :)
When I started VN there also was *In Other BSDs for %Y/%m/%d* [1] series ... but some time after I was doing the VN series - they stopped.
They still post *Lazy Reading for %Y/%m/%d* [2] series though - sometimes its 'UNIX enough' that I include it in VN.
Feel free to use any of my VN or my other content in Your new Journal initiative - in any way you like - as I said that multiple times - I do not make money out of VN or the blog - I just share and find fun in that - so starting Your Journal could not hurt me in any way :)
I already added *Usual Suspects* section to VN - showing other *NEWS* related UNIX/BSD sites - so I will also include Yours there.
I can not promise that I will actively participate in the Journal - maybe in the comments section - or occasionally when I find something really big/important - so I will cover it both in VN and add to Journal/Hacker News/... etc :)

For me the most important part is ANSI US LAYOUT - with must keys such as INS/DEL HOME/END and PGUP/PGDN block.
So its either ThinkPad W520/T25 layout or 87/TKL one (as in image above).
If its membrane or mechanical - that is secondary to me.
