The thing that I need to figure out about these systems is to understand when (if?) it's just a traditional script and when it is fully operating out of all the input text.
Example: if I say "add a new components that replaces component X with some other logic", are these tools reading the whole codebase, or do they build some internal "TAGS" index which they can then use to navigate the codebase without having to keep a lot of context around?
And if they don't do this, why not?

So, by "agentic", basically I mean if there is any system out there that can do these "reading code" + "finding solution" + "generating code" workflow.
I've found aider.chat, but the results were just bad. I don't know if that was me not taking time to figure it out or sonnet really is *that much better*.

I just signed up for Cursor and have been using it on a fork of elk.zone - part of my idea of local-first browser for the Fediverse.
Just being able to say "take out these components from the sidebar and make a panel that can list the information that is available on the local database" has been a boon. I know my around Vue, but the real help is getting cursor + sonnet to read the code and find the places that need change without me giving a lot of info.

I just downloaded gemma3:27b and got it working well on my GPU and it seems more than fast enough for common usage. I will pull this new one to see if I noticed any difference.
If you forgive me my laziness: have you written anything about implementing a workflow to get some form of agentic models that work locally? Is there such a thing?

By following the bot or interacting with any of its polls, your AP actor gets registered on the website as a new account.

Capital-P "privacy" is absolutely incompatible with publishing networks. Telling people that Mastodon is any better in this regard is at best wishful thinking and at worst irresponsible.
We *might* make it work with AP if we have better C2S implementations where end users control the keys and allow for E2EE, but if your threat model involves 3LAs and corporations building your profile, the best solution is to avoid any social network and stick with Signal/Matrix/XMPP.

Oh, please... I was toying with the idea of making a search engine for the Fediverse last year. It took me less than a week to scrape and index 8 million ActivityPub accounts last year, with all of the users posts, including those that had enabled authorized fetch.

Wait, this argument does not hold.
Like you said, the data is already public on ActivityPub. Whatever adversaries interested in building the social graph or analyzing metadata can do so, regardless of your instance location or who is in power.

Nostr is the least bad of the two, but it is a victim of the Libertarian mistake: it puts "Freedom" as the highest principle, but does it only for "freedom to" and leaves "freedom from" on the curb.
Bluesky is from the very beginning looking for ways to become a middleman in the flow of information. Even if we believe that the individuals working there have more noble aspirations, as soon as their investors come knocking they will be forced to let go of their ideals.

I think he is absolutely right to do it. No one likes politicians, but someone *has* to do the politicking, and I'm glad that it's someone with actual Skin In The Game like him.
Much like we need pragmatists, we need purists to keep us in check and remind us *why* we need to be zealous about certain principles, and these principles are not observed by Bluesky or Nostr.

bird.makeup is really interesting, but its centralized design has shown its limits. The accounts I follow are taking between 8-12 days to be synchronized, some of them even longer. If kilogram is going to follow the same approach and you are already predicting to hit rate limits, don't you think another approach should be considered?

I mean multiple instances as "anyone can download and mirror accounts however they see fit". This is basically what I'm doing with https://fediverser.io, which is first made to help people migrate from Reddit to Lemmy, but second can mirror reddit content with shadow accounts.

Be careful what you wish for.
The old "information wants to be free" adage is not just a quip for pirates to justify download of copyrighted material . It's also a good reminder that any technology that is created to limit transparency *will be subverted in favor of ruling elite*.
I for one *do not* want an internet where I can not browse freely. "Consent-based mechanisms" work at personal, local level, not at a global one.

robots.txt is no contract, no one should expect to be protected from being crawled just because they placed some hints indicating what user agents are welcome.
Relying on consent and general good behavior is just bad digital hygiene. I'd rather people just acknowledged that and make it a basic principle: do not post anything on the open web unless you are sure you don't mind it being available to any present or future malicious/adversarial entity.

I don't see any "technical" issue with curl|sh, but do you really think that normalizing the act of downloading and executing random code from the internet is a good idea, without any social proof?
Sure, my mom wouldn't be doing curl|sh anyway but I'm thinking of a linux newbie who learns that "it is okay to curl|sh" and ends up installing all sorts of crap in their system.
