I think it’s important to note, that it does not matter whether or not quantum is just around the corner, or decades away. It will arrive. The sooner it’s resolved the better. Indeed another Crypto besides Bitcoin may solve the problem sooner. If that should happen, then most likely, a lot of people might see that as being a better place to store their wealth instead of worrying whether or not Bitcoin will reach consensus on a solution. That could be Bitcoins problem before quantum ever arrives.

When you understand Bitcoin, you understand the resilience of the community. Wall Street does not really get it. To them it’s just a way to increase their bags of Fiat currencies. They fear the quantum however. But Wall Street lives off of the fear. They can drive the fiat price up and down using this fear to their advantage. Quantum is real, and most likely unanticipated. Or was it? BIP’s, and the way they are implemented were designed to meet the future threats to the network. New quantum address’s will be implemented. Old address’s will be protected in some way from the attack. The community will either agree to let them be mined back into existence in some controlled release, or locked up forever. Both or either can be done. The freedom that Bitcoin represents, is here to stay.

I am doing the lawful thing now regarding Bitcoin. If I turn it into dollars, or exchange it in any other way, I will pay the Capital Gains taxes as it has been lawfully ordained. I didn’t vote for that, but obviously somebody did. I don’t like it, and I don’t know how anybody could like having the government swipe any of your hard earned fortune without any risk on their part at all. I will say this however. If my government attempts to confiscate my wealth, or they inflate their own system to a point that I cannot put food on my table, I will denounce my citizenship. I will move to a more favorable jurisdiction, and I will refuse to pay my capital gains to a country I know longer belong to. I paid for the Bitcoin with their dollars, but I had already paid their taxes on those dollars used. They can chase me to the ends of the earth to get more if they want to. Good luck with that. This is the promise of Bitcoin. I can take it with me anywhere, and spend it anytime I want without their permission. It’s not theirs to permit.

If you know somebody that thinks they own Bitcoin, and it’s on exchange or in an ETF, make them aware, they don’t own Bitcoin and they have no business owning it if they don’t understand it. All this noise of Wall Street, and Governments accumulating Bitcoin is a bother. Don’t know why so many pushed for that. Bitcoin should continue to grow and improve as the best money in the world at the grass roots level. No Hullabalu about it. Just genuine use by the everyday man. Growing at ground zero in the back countries of developing nations, and on the streets of small town shops that learn to use and take in Bitcoin as payment for their down home products and services. Forget about locking up gargantuan amounts of coins in ETF’s and Government Treasuries. That’s not where real money should be sitting, doing nothing. Bitcoin can grow quietly without a lot of fanfare and attention. The people that find it on their own, without being pushed into it for the promise of a quick buck are the true believers in its potential.

Let’s face it. If quantum proofing is going to work, then addresses that don’t move are going to be vulnerable. If you give everybody 2 years to move coins to quantum proof addresses, and some don’t move, you have to figure those people lost their keys, are dead, or not interested. I might understand trading stocks in a company. There are things about companies that you may be able to understand by studying the success of the company you are investing in. But, Blows my mind that traders trade Bitcoin. They’re just doing it to build their stack of Fiat larger. Trading Bitcoin is a fools endeavor. Somewhere between 75% and 95% lose their money trading Bitcoin. Bitcoin should be bought to save with it, till you can use it to buy something you really want or need. If Bitcoin were not traded, and instead used as it was designed to be used, its value would rise in a steadier slower predictable manner. With traders, the whole thing is a big gut wrenching roller coaster of emotional turmoil. With most traders ending up throwing in the towel, and moving on to something more predictable. Like sports betting! The bad news is that traders will not stop trading. Manipulators will not stop manipulating, even tho they may be out manipulated by another manipulator. The good news is that if you zoom out, and don’t fall into the traders trap, then the value of Bitcoin does grow steadily, and will continue to grow steadily as people that do understand what Bitcoin really is use it the way its supposed to be used.

Back in time the larger % of people into Bitcoin knew what they were doing, and knew how to handle Bitcoin. As time goes by the number of persons that want exposer to Bitcoin has grown, but the % of persons that know how to use it is diminishing. So many new comers are not interested in how it works, or how to safely keep it. All they want is for some corporation to hold it for them, and tell them that they will be insured that they have no need to know anything about it. That the corporation will take care of all that for them. As the utility of Bitcoin grows, especially in places where financial inclusion is not a given, then many more of these newcomers will eventually learn how to do Bitcoin the right way.

What if: eventually everyone that wants to transact with the blockchain has to have an up and running miner, and also a node. There could be something in the transaction that points to the existence of those that would not allow the transaction to process unless those were in place. It would certainly decentralize the mining community.

Yep, so maybe Satoshi knew that the cryptography protecting Bitcoin could one day be cracked. So Satoshi burned the private keys in Satoshi’s possession, and left it up to the future community to figure out how to handle it. The program could be changed to forever keep all lost keys from ever being accessed. A miner cannot mine a non quantum resistant address after any Private key cryptography is broken. Old addresses Lost forever. Or, somehow released in an equitable fashion back into the community.

It’s apparent that in the future, a quantum computer will be able to break the cryptography of old addresses that have not moved to new quantum resistant addresses. It would be nice if a Bitcoin organization will use a quantum computer to move those coins back to the blockchain, so that they can be re-mined properly to be redistributed to a new generation of Bitcoiners that understand how to properly protect their Bitcoin. Still only 21 mil. Will ever exist.

I can’t agree with the US dollar being used as a weapon. Sanctioning is designed to use the dollar to force an adversarial government to do what our government wants them to do. At some point, if this were to be a successful way of controlling governments, then at what point would they use this tactic on its own citizenship to control them. Sanctions weaken the money, and force people to find another source of exchange to avoid these controls. Sanctions also do more harm to the innocent citizenship of sanctioned countries then it does to their ruling class.

Engineers of late here, built the St.Luis Arch by starting on the ground a 2 ends, and building it up to meet in the middle at the top. Hmmm! They miss calculated, and the 2 builds did not meet. I don’t agree with deportation, and the cost monetarily, and emotionally that it is upon our country. I do believe in stopping illegal immigration. I also believe that nobody here illegally already should be subsidized in anyway by our government. I don’t think they should be able to work here, unless they apply for a work permit, and pay into our social security system. If an Illegal is arrested or charged for any crime, I don’t think they have a right to our legal system. If they are here illegally and charged with a crime, then deport them to their home country.

Just my 2 SATs on the Quantum Debate. I think that after Quantum resistant addresses are approved, owners of Bitcoin are given a fair amount of time to move their Bitcoin to these new addresses. After which, then Old Addresses that have not moved are Time locked for 180 days after a transaction has been submitted to be mined. After which these time locked Bitcoin are only able to be sent to pre-approved Exchange Addresses for which the owners have been KYC’d properly. That would certainly slow down their release back into the community, and we would know what company or individuals were using Quantum computers to break the old code. Doing this may even give original owners of lost keys the ability to claim thru legal avenues that those were their coins.

Was just listening to Trevor CTO talk about post Quantum attack on Bitcoin. Interesting! I’d like to get my vote in early. If someone fires up a quantum computer, and breaks the Cryptography on any coins not moved into Quantum resistant addresses, then they should get to keep them. But better yet, how about if someone were to AirDrop those recovered coins on a percentage basis into Quantum resistant addresses of people that already moved their coins. That would be way cool.

What if; Bitcoin was updated to quantum resistant. All you had to do is move your Bitcoin to a quantum resistant address. Then somebody with a quantum computer started with oldest first Bitcoin addresses that have not been moved to quantum resistant addresses, and moved those Bitcoin to a treasury. Let’s say this fellow is an honest someone, that wants people that owned those coins to get them back, even if they were lost or forgotten. If those persons could somehow prove those were theirs they would be returned via a quantum resistant address. I believe that over all, that would be good for Bitcoin.

Judging per your profile, you should know more than I on this subject. My understanding was that quantum could break current encryption. A simple address type change could prevent it. Although, old lost addresses would not be able to update their addresses. Tell me I’m wrong!

Blackrock recently warned investors of the dangers of quantum computers to break encryption on Bitcoin. Bitcoin can easily be made quantum resistant. The only problem, if you really feel it is one, is that only old lost, or Satoshi addresses will be able to be hacked. Personally, I don’t see that as a problem. Maybe even a blessing. These old coins will be recirculated into the economy. As they are bought up, the price may fall and then eventually recover. Always need to remember, there only can be 21 million coins in all. No matter how hard we try, there will always be more lost coins in the future. Not as many hopefully as there were originally, as we learn more about how to protect those valuable assets.

Tell me if I’m wrong. Bitcoin mining centralization is not a problem as long as there are individuals outside of the big mining farms that still hash, and have a chance to win a block. When the big farms feel that it’s no longer profitable to mine, the individual farmers that have been there all along without any great hope that they would win a block, will hash on. If the mining farms attempt to change consensus of the block chain to advance their profiteering, then it will be up to the community to block those efforts.

There was a time in the past when a starting out company with a good idea needed money to get going and an investor could put his money into that company to help out. In return, that company would pay dividends, or thru its growth the shares you own in that company would appreciate in value. Now, thru leverage trading, derivatives etc. stocks trading at 50x forward earnings, it’s a big gambling hall, fixed game mess. It seems like the North Koreans are being a bit of a pest. They originally get their educations in IT in America. They then take it home to further hone their skills and teach others how to Hack. The Lazarus Group has netted millions of US dollars for their government. Then since 2018, and with illegal immigration into the US much easier they use Fake IDs to infiltrate IT, and Tech jobs in Fortune 500 companies here in the US. They not only funnel their salaries back to North Korea, they also can funnel information, and even plant virus’s into systems for future attacks. All of these funds they earn for their country are used to further Kim Jong Un’s vision of being a Nuclear Super Power. It won’t be easy, but these people need to be weeded out and deported ASAP. The safety of the World is at Stake. I’m sure they will make mistakes in whom they deport, but better safe than sorry is a good saying here.

It strikes me as funny how some people think that their digital gold is a safer investment than Bitcoin. They really believe that the paper certificate they hold for the gold is really sitting in somebodies vault somewhere. So whoever is in charge of that database that says that this is their gold cannot be corrupted in any way. They’ve been brainwashed. Nothing you can do about it. They will never understand Bitcoin.

Someone should start a movement. I except Lightning Bitcoin Tips. A sticker or a badge that a service worker could wear at work, that lets you know they except tips in that form of money. Could incorporate a way to put a QR code on the badge. Great way to get Waiters, Waitresses, Bartenders, Musicians and such into the groove of being orange pilled.

I’ve talked to couple local small businesses recently in my neighborhood. Mostly Pubs, and restaurants. Some won’t take a credit card any longer, and some are adding 3.5% on to the bill to take the credit card. There margins are too tight to take the hit the credit card companies are charging them. On top of that, some have to wait between 30 and 60 days to be paid by the credit card company. Creates cash flow problems. If you tip on the credit card, the staff has to take it on their paycheck. They wait for that too. They also suffer income tax on those tips. Credit cards are real convenient. That’s why we use them to buy stuff. Watch out however, if you do not pay them off right away. Get yourself in loads of bad debt if not handled responsibly.
OK then, back to cash. Dirty stuff. Half the folks out there handling it don’t know how to make change from a buck any longer. Easy to loose it. Woops, left a $20 on the bar instead of a ten, or something fell out of my wallet when I was pulling other stuff out. Can’t remember where I spent that stuff.
All out now. Got to go back to the bank and get some more.
How about if the merchant took Bitcoin on the Lightning network. They get it instantly. You could tip the staff separately. They would not have to report it, and they get it instantly. The merchant would not have to charge you more to use Lightning payment. You pay a couple SATs when you make the payment. Peanuts compared to the credit card company.
The merchant can convert to cash instantly to pay his bills with Strike or CashApp if needed. If he has more in his account than he needs to pay his bills, he can let the balance ride on the Bitcoin network, and earn more than he can in his fiat bank account.
I know, Venmo and PayPal are attempting to make it just as easy. However, their fees are higher, and you run into issues at the end of the year with reporting who and why you spent or received money. Then did you pay sales taxes on something you bought from somebody. Here we will deduct it and send it in for you. And for that you need to have these accounts tied back into your bank account. Sorry, too much bull shit for convenience for me.
I am however in agreement with you. Bitcoin does not need to abolish the Central banking or banks in general, or Fiat for that matter. They can live together. People will gravitate naturally to the system that suits them best. It’s good that these systems need to compete with each other. Makes them all better in the long run.

If you, or your group are not paying attention, then the persons that you put in charge of important matters will eventually make decisions that are in their own self interest. It will even attract bad actors to those positions for self enrichment. If you create an environment where those put in charge of important decisions are quickly exposed of any wrong doings, then those persons will tend to make selfless decisions for the good of the community. Americans have not been paying attention. Now, social media platforms, especially decentralized ones, have the power to expose the wrong doers very quickly. Causing the public to quickly rise up and punish the wrong doers. This will set up for persons with good intentions to seek out the positions of public trust.
You must speak up, if you think something is wrong, even if you might be wrong. The public will quickly verify or dismiss your concerns.

It’s not difficult to understand that some believe Bitcoin to be some kind of Ponzi scheme. Yes, too few people that got in early and or Whales control too large a percent of all available. And some may feel that the early in will cash out and leave the late comers holding a worthless bag. That’s how Ponzi schemes work. At this time, due to the tax implications, most will hodl, down on this asset. That’s not the ideal use case for it. Holding it does nothing to prove its real value. Its worldwide permission-less, unhackable distribution is its true strength. As soon as it is excepted as a payment system, that is not taxed like a commodity or security, then it will start to flow freely into the wallets of everyday users, whom will use it in there everyday life. The idea that it might be a Ponzi will disappear, and give way to the fact that in this internet age, it’s the best money ever conceived of.

Looks to me like with rule changes that may be coming to how we will be reporting our Bitcoin to the IRS that we may not need to report person to person, and person to business transactions if it does not involve the purchase of Real Estate or Securities. We will be incentivized to keep Bitcoin off exchanges to avoid capital gains taxes.
I was out at one of my favorite pubs last night and got into a conversation with the owner regarding his problems with taking credit card payments.
He has found himself needing to add 3.5% to customer bills who use credit cards to purchase.
I’ve been seeing a lot of this lately. Even the gas stations are giving a better price to cash paying customers.
The pub owner also tells me that he has to wait for the Credit card company to send him his money. Sometimes up to a month wait.
In addition, his staffs tips on credit cards are delayed to end of week or more, and are added to their regular payroll check. Of course, taxes and all the other stuff taken out before receipt.
This brings me to the point of this conversation. Bitcoin is now more than ever an answer to this problem. This pub owner could accept Bitcoin on the lightning network, and avoid all of this nonsense. You could even tip the staff separately, and they would have their tip instantly. There was a guy playing his guitar in the corner, and he was collecting some cash tips. I don’t really carry much cash with me anymore. There are others same as I. You want to tip that guy in the corner playing his instrument, and you don’t have any cash. Bitcoin is the answer.
Merchants can talk to Strike or CashApp about converting Bitcoin payments back to USD to pay their vendors, or Bills.
It’s time to get out there in our neighborhoods and promote this. Take your paycheck in Bitcoin, or convert it to Bitcoin immediately. At least some of it. Get out there and spend it with these merchants that sign on to accept this.
This is the kind of adoption that Bitcoin was created for. It was not meant to be a get rich quick scheme that Wall Street could take over.
