sent me down a slight rabbit hole. I remember reading the Minsky and Papert perceptrons book in college, and the McCulloch & Pitts paper. Crazy to thinks that ANNs were invented in the 1940s.

this doesn't answer your q, but am kind of curious...
Do folks get much value from the transcript feature? Or if you're a podcast app maker, do your users value it, and tell you?
Clearly an accessibility win, but beyond that it's a fully audio medium for me. I don't *look* at my app, I lock the screen and shove it in my pocket.
I remember coding this into wherever and thinking: "Neat, the words highlight and scroll! But I'll never use it."
Thoughts?

I've definitely had to recalibrate and rework my relationship with the daily act of coding. It's turned into something more like, I don't know, terraforming.
Like Dave said, we seem to be in the middle of something that hasn't settled yet.

For the interested, this is very straightforward to build with current tech: download the content, transcribe it, and ask an LLM to find the ads. No need for fancy audio fingerprinting or heuristics, no knowledge of who is speaking. It's a solved problem.
We're entering the "find out" phase of how things are gonna shake out in podcasting.

not sure where this is coming from but fwiw the folks I worked with on a day to day basis during my 9 years there were excellent particularly at fundamentals, ie stuff that is not as well represented in the general dev population. I've seen both and there's a big difference. That said, big company incentives tend to obscure that.

I love hearing about your experience with vibe coding. This is the killer app for people with product vision plus systems understanding, but maybe not the pain tolerance to deal with indentation, semicolons, and curly braces 🙂
Honestly I think "vibe coding" is a disservice as a name. I see it more as a natural language to code compiler.

confirmed that gofeed is bombing out on uris like `at://did:plc:pzznkrzajsaqev3ffamg3jnr/app.bsky.feed.post/3ljkhwqun7l2b`. It's treating these URIs as URLs, and complaining about not being able to parse the port number 🤦‍♂️ Looks like a parser bug to me at this point.
Looks like your bandwidth issues are with episode downloads and not feed downloads though, so maybe this is unrelated.

In the end it looks like the greenlight node operator still needs to manage liquidity, and if you're going to create per-user nodes -- even with a bunch of whizzy automation that hides the underlying complexity -- this is a nonstarter for LSPs.
@npub1rcn…dw4h & @npub1fmx…wp74 talk about this on PI #184 and Roy from Breez was really the one to enlighten us all on the LSP view of things.

The python wrapper is pretty capable. I was able to create bech32 addresses, send payments to them from coinbase, open a channel with outbound liquidity to the PI node, and send some small payments to my alby wallet. I was also able to close the channel with PI, and withdraw remaining funds back to coinbase.
Docs were minimal but the community has a discord and telegram group which were helpful.

Quick wrap up of my Greenlight experience for anyone interested. They make it pretty easy to spin up a core lightning node running on their infra, and interact with it via API. No need to wait for the full blockchain to sync, it just springs to life and is up to date or very close.
The node is ephemeral, appearing just-in-time when you want to interact with it and stays alive as long as you're using it, then goes off line to keep the infra costs low.

no need for struggle...my bone is connected to the rest of the network via a single channel ✂️! I understand that I'm general you want to be well connected, but from first principles if I am connected to a well-connected peer and there is sufficient liquidity in the channel, shouldn't it work?

Managed to make a few small payments from GL to GetAlby via the PC20 channel! And I can see the resulting shift in the balance of funds across the channel. In theory I should be able to now make small payments in the other direction but haven't been able to get that to work. Not sure why.
This is awesome learning. I'm getting to appreciate firsthand the reality of channel balancing, fees, and whatnot.
Still haven't figured out how to connect GL to an LSP. May or may not dig around in that.

Has anyone messed with Greenlight? I managed to create a node and an invoice using their python samples, but attempts to pay the invoice from breez fail with no route, and fail silently from getalby's web ui.
Digging further, the node doesn't appear to have any peers. I think this fits in the category of stuff that greenlight aims to abstract away from the developer. Any ideas for an LN n00b?
