I think Hannah Spencer acquitted herself very well for her first outing on BBC Any Questions.
Fascinating to note the amount of agreement between her and the columnist from the Daily Telegraph.

All the parties know it’s broken, most probably have some kind of solution that they dare not enact because their focus groups tell them it would be electoral suicide.
Meanwhile failure to address the problem leads to ever greater problems in other related areas such as health.
I struggle to see how this is going to be resolved without a similarly radical vision as the founding of the NHS 78 years ago.

Slight tangent:
My mother is in LA funded residential care; her home stands empty (don't get me started) and is security for a deferred payment agreement.
The care provider is a charity which mostly looks after people with dementia.
The LA funding doesn't cover the charity's cost of care. Privately funded residents are paying extra because of this.
The difference is going to eventually bankrupt the charity.
What then?

I’m just about open minded on this group - giving them the benefit of the doubt, if you like.
In this case their self appointed role seems to be to accuse, without offering any evidence, election officials of not doing their job.
This doesn’t seem such a brilliant idea as it undermines their credibility when alleging irregularities at elections which are less regulated and transparent particularly if they also present no evidence.

Not quite: they’ve been charged with relatively minor offences which would normally be dealt with in a lower (magistrates) court. However they’re being held in conditions which would normally be reserved for people charged with terrorism or offences of similar gravity.
Britain has not yet stooped *quite* as low as Israel.

private healthcare demand is driven by the inadequacy of NHS provision, not any ideological position.
If people with a little money need healthcare and a holiday they will weigh up which matters more.

I wonder how much direct overlap there is between the kind of jobs 60 - 80 yr olds would take and the 'yoof'?
