Probably the most annoying thing I find with @npub1kwa…e0nj on Pixel 8 currently is that I have to log into the PayPal App every time I open it. I have a backup Motorola device running Lineage without Google Apps that saves my login info.

I don't have lockdown enabled. Mostly because a handful of apps refuse to work when connected to a VPN. I'm not sure if the apps determine that via the IP or can see that the system has a VPN active. I've been debating on trying a dedicated IP or enabling VPN on my modem/router. Possibly a combination of the 2.

actually you don't even need to put it in a profile. You can use split tunneling and still have your VPN active, worked almost instantly.

I'm aware and that's great but still not the same. That being said, will these apps have access to storage and work like native apps? I've been periodically trying to set the terminal app in GrapheneOS for a few months now but still haven't gotten beyond "preparing terminal" even after letting it run 8 hours while sleeping. I know but it's what a majority of people mean when they say this. I'm in no way saying you're incorrect because you're not. Just that most people who mention "mobile Linux" are meaning that. Both use the Linux kernel but are still distinct from one another. I run GrapheneOS on my Pixel 8 but enjoy playing around with a secondary device running [@postmarketOS](https://social.treehouse.systems/@postmarketOS )
Running your same desktop apps on mobile is appealing for sure.

I agree that some of the posts here on Fediverse come off aggressive but it's whatever, I just scroll by them now. On the other hand if you have questions or issues @npub1kwa…e0nj is (in my experience) quick to respond and help, which is more important than taking issue with something you can choose not to read. I don't see myself running anything else on my Pixel devices.

@npub1kwa…e0nj have there been any reports about Bluetooth issues lately? Not sure when it began but my connection keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. I thought maybe an issue with my ear buds but have tested 3 different pairs. It also doesn't seem to be a hardware issue with my Pixel 8.

I don't think F-Droid needs to be replaced (the focus off Foss software is awesome) but they do maybe need some help and focus on being more secure. At least for the official repos. Release 2 clients afterwards, one that is secure and only uses only official repos & one that allows adding 3rd party repos with clear warnings you sacrifice security by adding other sources.
Or hopefully somebody else picks something similar up so we aren't holding our breath.

it's not part of Graphene, I was thinking a store that is to GrapheneOS that Playstore is to Android. Some parts of Accrescent seem interesting and it almost seems like a good middle ground between Playstore and F-Droid.
I do prefer FOSS apps as much as possible (I'm aware FOSS does not mean secure/private) and it seems Accrescent will show and allow filtering, so coiled be a viable alternative when it has a larger catalog of apps.

@npub1kwa…e0nj no repair mode on the Pixel 8 when running GrapheneOS? I'll have to wipe data before sending mg Pixel I in for screen replacement. Unlocking and running an alternative OS shouldn't void the warranty on Pixels, correct?

understandable. However, your desktop has many of these same sensors (microphone, camera, etc). I don't know how much you'd really need to worry about these sensors doing unwanted things on a device that has been mainlined, assuming you trust the apps/programs you have installed. I'd say the average user is fairly safe on a reputable distro & sticking to default repos. A device built with running mobile Linux in mind usually has kill switches to sensors but poor specs on average compared to an Android device that has been mainlined.

technically you're probably less secure with a mainline kernel Linux phone vs GrapheneOS. Privacy and security should be comparable to desktop Linux tho since that is what your running, just with a mobile friendly DE. I used a #pinephone running #mobian (Mobile Debian) for about 2 years but the hardware was painfully slow. Currently use a Pixel 8 with GrapheneOS for my main line and a Poco X3 NFC running #postmarketos for my secondary. Most programs/apps I use under #gnome on desktop adapt and work perfectly fine under #phosh on mobile. If you have a supported device and can deal with not having banking apps and (usually) a camera then mobile Linux is worth taking a look at. Almost every service I use has an app that adapts to mobile just fine. Just keep in mind what you're using. I'd guess it's only a matter of time until until some security/privacy oriented distros become available.

not sure that they technically can do that. It's an open source project so they have to provide source and keep it open. However they can build and add more features into GApps and not have to include them in AOSP.

this reminds me of a question I wanted to ask. Since charging optimization limits to 80% how does that effect the toggle setting to having battery saver turn off when the battery charges above 90%? Does it adjust for this or could it be added to change that value to 75% when charging optimization is enabled?

Running Linux (desktop Linux, I don't need to read daily posts explaining that GrapheneOS is Linux) apps that adapt to mobile already will be super useful. I'd be super interested in being able to run Mobian with PHOSH as a way to check up on development, new features, etc. being added without periodically digging out my Pinephone and using painfully slow hardware to do so. GrapheneOS is a great project but running the same OS I already use for desktop on my phone is very appealing to me. At some point I'm probably going to pick up a Pixel 3a or OnePlus 6(T) to replace the Pinephone and retire the Pixel 8 with GrapheneOS to being my backup device.

36mm is the biggest I can go without it looking like I have a phone mounted to my arm. I've got this a 36mm Bertucci and a few Casio's. Vaer has a D12 homage I've been eyeballing tho.
