I enjoy most Pratchet, but found some of the later ones a bit formulaic.
After Gaurds Gaurds, which iirc, introduces Sam Vimes, Thud is one of the finest analyses of racism you will find.

Way back I was writing a diagramming tool on a 75Mhz 286 in C++ on Win3.1. It had to check if the mouse was over one of the curves joining nodes. A 20 segment approximation to a cubic spline. And there could be 100's of these. Checked every mouse move - 10-20 times a second. I thought it would kill the program. But I couldn't figure out how to optimise it, so I just wrote the naive code.
I ended up with some huge models. Never needed to touch that code.

Any idea what app (if any) they're using at Cavendish. They were commissioning some some plate scanning tech when I was last there.

We certainly have plenty of problems.
IMHO, one of the key flaws was the acceptance of corruption & croneyism from the very start of the New South Africa, from the very top.
The inequalities are in our faces in ways that most developed folk can't comprehend.
The problem is indeed beyond just the constitution, or even the culture within a single country. The world is a complex, interconnected dynamical system, and all equlibria will be unstable, I suspect.

South Africa is an example. Our constitution has (just) survived some massive pressure. The line was held by those who had been part of the original struggle. As societies, we don't seem to be able to remember beyond 2 or 3 generations.

As a classroom user of these products, I'm starting to ask myself (and school) some hard questions.
Is anyone working on viable alternatives? Particularly to Google Classroom? I love the power of #Moodle, but GC ux is so much smoother.
