You're all good. I've heard the term tankies a few times recently, I was put on a list on Bluesky labeling me one. I can assure you I am not one. I do have massive socialist and Marxist leanings, but I would never defend the actions of the Soviet leaders. My political beliefs are more unrealistic ideals of a kind of scientific utopia, not a realistic thing for now, and only possibly in the future where technology allows it.
I do think the USSR did most of the work killing Nazis.

1/3 Threads is a very vapid place, it runs off dumb questions and outrage bait. I decided to post a very simple and carefully worded post stating that I think there's not many original British foods, just to see the total madness. It didn't disappoint.

Huge juicy strawberries are usually full of flavour! The Wexford Strawberries here in Ireland are rather famous for being huge and crazy full of flavour. I'm thinking, Strawberries but on Pumpkin stems.

So I wasn't going to post about this but I just got off the phone with Tesco customer service and I'm shocked.
Last night I was having some soup, Tesco brand Tuscan inspired Bean soup, to be exact, bit down on a chunk of glass that was in there. Taste of blood in my mouth, dent in my tongue, possibly swallowed a small bit... I was worried about it. Also, fucking hell like.
Today I call em up, had already sent an email, they are uninterested, tell me I have to complain in store.

So, this DNA heritage stuff is cool, however I have experienced something really quite odd.
The company I did my DNA test kit with have expanded and updated their database, and in my ethnicity estimate, I went from being almost 100% Irish with a trace amount of Ashkenazi Jew, which was a massive surprise and made me go through a lot of research and ponder all kinds of things such as having distant cousins go through the Holocaust, but no, seemingly that was just a mistake!

You place a value on something you make, you're equating the values others place on what they make as somehow utterly equal, you're suggesting my individual values on my own work should be exactly the same value as those a computer programmer places on whatever piece of software they code.
I may have music I value less than some code a person spent months or years writing, I may place a value on my music that places it far above the value of anything else I've done with my whole life.

It's not a lie is it, its a genuine concern you've decided to dismiss and say it's an irrational fear, (illogical), and then you've decided to compare an individual's art to open source software where the makers have already weighed up their own ethical concerns about their own creations, they are not the same things.
I've faced utter weirdos in online communities of indie musicians who have done underhanded weird and petty things, I am not so trusting, and not with my art.

But anyway, I'm not making my music CC, and despite asking for a conversation about it, I don't think you wanted one with a different opinion than your own, which seems stuck on comparing individuals art with open source software and the idea of community.
Ones own IP is theirs to do what they want with, to share or not, suggesting this is illogical because it goes against your ideas- rude, and gets a shrug.

I can see a distinction between art and utility software, however I would assume the people putting out open software have considered such issues already and deemed the risk worthwhile for the greater good.

Mastodon, for the last two years has been my favourite social media platform, better conversations, smarter people, etc etc, it has also been the major driving force in my music sales on Bandcamp, thank you for that, it really means a lot.
The other platforms don't come close, however, I am surprised to say, two random interactions on Threads in as many days have lead to me selling music, which is shocking.
I don't think Bluesky has done anything for me at all.

Nobody is ever going to convince me guns should be legal, its a stupid thing for any society.
I am so glad I live in a place they are banned.
It doesn't mean they don't exist, but for the most part- they don't. Literally only countryside folk with licenses (totally fair) and extreme criminals have them over this side of the planet, and considering its automatic prison if you're found with one, they're only really used in extreme criminal on criminal violence.

The other day when I was selling old phones to try help my friend the oldest one was worth sod all (€8 with a damaged screen) so I thought I'd keep it and see if I could use it for something, luckily it has an audio out and even more lucky, with some software fiddling I got an old version of Poly2 working on it, which is by far the most interesting music program for any ios device, so I bought it and now I'm having fun with that and my Kaoss pad!

I've just come back from a lovely Sun Holiday that I was treated to by my wonderful other half. It usually wouldn't be my cup of tea, I've never really done them before but I enjoyed extending the summer and going somewhere new. We went to Fuerteventura, the largest of the Volcano made Canary Islands off the coast of Morocco, owned by Spain. It was an experience. Beautiful scenery, a somewhat Fawlty Towers experience, hyper heat. Lizards and cats and very cheap drinks.

I've been having fun changing the knobs on my guitar pedals my clon clone looks way more classy without the silly red ones and I've switched all of the ones on a cheap magnetic delay for smaller ones (I didn't have enough of the same type so there's a mix).

I mention this mainly because the price of soup has gone nuts over the last 5 years and some of the more premium brands cost like 2.50 - 4 quid, which is insane for soup. I've been trying out various different soups and sauces and things and this is top level. I also discovered all supermarket own brand mayonnaise is shit and should never be used ever.

I wouldn't usually randomly advertise food products, apart from Cocopops, which should be a staple meat in every household, but if you're in Ireland/the UK, usually low fat things are shit, but this lentil and vegetable soup from Tesco is actually really nice, it needs some salt and pepper but top tip, it's cheap, it's filling and it's good for you, a rare thing these days. This is a Limnetic Villains approved food stuff.

I produce music- record and arrange etc on a Mac, I'm more interested in niche/unique or unusual things I might be able to only find on Linux, and I'm sure there's some software on there I won't find anywhere else, mainly for making weird sounds, experimenting with different workflows on software I don't have access to.

Ok that's good to know, I'm locked in using Mac for music production but I like as many niche ways to make music as possible- and I've wanted to explore Linux for over a decade at this point. I guess the idea would be to use it more like an instrument than anything else, using programs I otherwise don't have access to, so perhaps having the Windows option still there isn't a bad idea.

The only real concern I have is - getting sound to work and keys and all that- will Linux detect the hardware on the laptop, how do I install it to boot up and completely remove windows off the machine, or should I leave Windows on it, duel boot? I don't know about these things, is there a disadvantage to leaving Windows on it? And I have zero clue about how to do all that.

I ended up just deleting my account, and just before I did I made a little empty account to keep my music profile up, which I might as well have not bothered doing, I never really use it.
I'm looking at it a bit like Twitter now, I'll keep my handles but leave the accounts blank, mainly for peace of mind.

The file you downloaded should be a zip full of everything, photos, in folders, and a bunch of csv. Files if I remember correctly, they have every convo, list of followers and block lists etc. You should be able to navigate it manually! Unless things have changed. Used to be free websites you would also have to risk trusting - where you could upload this to - and they would remove everything. Upside you keep your handle safe and then you can just stop using the site.

Lovely little interview.
Sadly it's the end of Radio Free Fedi, and they have been amazing for so many small indie musicians on here, and hosting some artists Faircamps including my own, I think that might continue after the radio station is closed down in Jan, but we need more things like Radio Free Fedi and folk talking about Faircamp and open source things!

Also by the way this isn't me being cocky, I'm baffled sometimes by the small successes I have and my reach. It's bonkers that I released some of my music on a limited run of cassettes and they sold out, really quickly. That's fucking nuts to me.

I'm not in this for money anyway, that's a nice bonus and if I can do good things with it when it comes- great, and like I said there's no way I'm making a living off my art, not currently anyway - but I'm still in many ways in a better position than so many bands and musicians that are way more established in other arenas, including some seasoned live musicians. That's really weird.
On the one hand I'm not complaining, on the other I think it's ridiculous how undervalued music and art is.

Like it's insane to me that a dude I know who has played to hundreds of thousands of people, if he released an album tomorrow, it would sell fuck all copies.
I've done live stuff in the past, been in bands that went nowhere, been in a band that almost went somewhere, but with all that effort- in many ways I'm doing better with how far my music has travelled, than established acts that play twice a week and have a dedicated live fanbase.
I don't understand it.

It's a really strange thing to realise that I'm doing better as an obscure indie musician that doesn't do live shows, than many bands I know here in Ireland that have been touring for a decade or two under various guises, in terms of albums I've sold and reach I have online, that's really weird. Some of these guys have been written about in well established print media, interviews, reviews, etc.
It's hard as a musician/artist, and it's not like I'm making a living from this. So it's extra odd!

I generally hate massive corporations and I've avoided McDonald's most of my adult life, a lot of my childhood and teenage years too, however, I weirdly like their coffee.

You guys all need to find one of those Amazon supermarkets, bring a full basket of shopping up to the self scan, scan it and then pretend 'oh no I forgot my wallet' and then walk out, leaving all the scanned shopping on the self service check out, confusing other customers and slowing down business in the shop while they have to clear away 30 yogurts and 40 for some reason heavily crinkled copies of the Washington Post.

Thanks to someone buying my discography on Bandcamp I thought I'd go out and splash out for a fancy takeaway coffee. It was raining, there was nowhere to sit because all the benches were wet, the coffee was actually pretty terrible, least I know not to go to that place again, I went and got a sandwich and that was also pretty awful but I saw a cool horse, so that was nice. Thank you for buying my music!

So many people posting stuff about the internet archive and how it's over and 'woe is me', and barely any of them know what they're talking about. I can't imagine the majority of these posters have downloaded books off the archive and read them.
They think the whole site is done because they haven't looked into it, it's not.
