when i say i'm #neurodivergent, THIS is what i mean. these are the results of a series of brain tests i underwent when i was 28.
they show that i'm very intelligent, but i easily forget what i'm told, my attention span is quite short, and i'm slow to make decisions.
a normally developed person would have scores that are much closer to 50% on a test like this. the scores are percentiles. if you score 5% on something, you're 1 in 20 people in a bad way. if you score 95%, you're 1 in 20 people in a good way.
these tests, which took an entire day, were what my psychiatrist used as the basis for my #ADHD diagnosis in my late 30s. i turned 40 this year, so it came pretty late.
somewhat paradoxically, i got a high executive function score. you're not supposed to have high executive function when you have ADHD.
but i think this is explained by the fact that they're not testing your real-life executive function, only your ability to solve a puzzle in a lab. they can't test your life management skills, which is the most important part. getting and keeping friends, jobs and romantic partners serve as a good test of that, however, and i have always struggled there.
i'm not too interested in speaking to any more doctors about this or trying any more medications, because they can't really do anything about the things i really care about, such as serving a purpose, and having real-life friends and a life partner.

it's not unreasonable to pay about the same rate for a writer or video editor as you do for a plumber or carpenter. it's going to be a bit steep. but they're compensating for taxation, fees, lulls in jobs coming in, etc. there is zero job security if you're freelancing, working as an independent contractor, or as a CEO.
your employer is only providing you with an illusion of income security so you don't have to worry about it. "everyone else" DOES have to worry though. employees are a bit sheltered like that.

if the post hits the 40k zaps goal, and i write this article, i'll probably get far less than $20 per hour. it's more likely to take me half a workday - 4 hours. ordinary wages are at $15-20/hr in many countries. freelancer/contractor wages are higher due to the lack of income security.

is this a big ask? not really. 40k sats is only 11 USD at the current exchange rate. i actually made a miscalculation and should have asked for 80k. i was aiming at $20/hr. but i posted it and can't correct it. so i'll do it anyway. i'm from a high-income country. it's not much money at all. the Satoshi is a very small unit. $20/hr is low pay for a freelancer.

i've not been on stage too many times, but the times i did that, the audience seemed to enjoy it.
one time, i was trying to give a presentation at a startup seminar and i was just being me and people found me funny.
the other time, i was playing the piano, and a girl came up to talk to me, and a musician wanted to offer me advice on how to become a professional.
i like when people respond so i do that kind of stuff.

more social media clients should have a PIM built into them so you can keep a list of interesting people and make notes on them. just a field to input a personal note per user that could be searched from somewhere in the client to find back to people would help a lot. it's doable to store this on the network itself because if a client wants to keep private data there, all it has to do is encrypt it with the user's private key.

i'm interested in debugging why NADAR (https://nadar.tigerville.no) isn't working well for some people. can people please test and report what kind of browsers, add-ons and connections you are using?
MOST of the relays should *not* be listed as offline in the results, so if it does that for you, i want to know everything you can tell me about how your browser is behaving, including the debug console if possible.

while i have some respect for Zelenskyy because he appears to be sticking around to lead his country instead of accepting offers to flee it, i do think he did accidentally get caught up in it a bit. if that war hadn't happened, there's a chance he'd be a very forgettable head of state that didn't do much to solve Ukraine's problems. so he got a bit lucky there. historical accident put him in that role. when i see the media glorify him, i remind myself of that. and for all i know, maybe the guy is profiteering off the war in some way. we don't know for sure that he isn't. i don't assume him to be a saint, but i suppose he does serve as a unifying figure.

in all fairness, there are SOME parallels between the invasion of Ukraine and the invasion of Iraq by the Americans. very few countries supported the Americans in that. the difference is that hardly anyone liked Saddam very much. Ukraine? all right, typical East Bloc corruption kind of thing, but not as brutal as Saddam. so while not officially endorsed, there was at least a *bit* of a justification there. not that it went so well. America created ISIS through that war.

as i understand it, there's still quite massive support among the Russian public for what Putin is doing in Ukraine. i'm not sure if the average Russian citizen is aware of how little sympathy this has in the UN. even the Chinese are a bit reluctant to outright endorse these actions, because they don't want to burn bridges.

from Norway's perspective - we share a border with Russia and have a long history of peaceful trade with Russia - our hand has actually been forced by what Putin has been doing. we were trying to strengthen bonds to Russia, collaborate in the Arctic regions. even during the Cold War, Norway's been relatively friendly to Russia, despite having American backing. it's usually a bad idea to be enemies with your neighbours. Norway can't accept what's going on in Ukraine right now. sure, there are historical arguments for having Ukraine as part of Russia, but Russia kind of hoisted its own petard there didn't they...

Putin tries to make it out as if Europe's been trampling on Russia all along, but why would be make much of our energy supply reliant on Russian gas if we distrusted Russia and didn't want to trade peacefully with them? while Russia has always been a bit of a challenge, i can't say the public mood in Europe in 1989 was one of "let's trample on Russia" - more like "maybe this is a new start?"
Putin had other ideas though.
before Putin began his business in Ukraine, NATO had turned into more of an alliance for military operations in other parts of the world than something that was specifically targeted at Russia.
ironically, because he didn't buy that, he made it true again.

it's perhaps more accurate to consider Norwegian managers as "coordinators" rather than "chiefs"
sure, at times, the top people have to make some calls, but it's usually more about reaching some kind of consensus in most cases. Scandinavia is fairly egalitarian.
