Ugh. Today in "welp, I didn't need that shit in my life", it seems the owner of popular open-source software Mastodon instance FOSStodon has shit out a particularly contemptible blog post titled "On Virtue Signalling".
I don't want to drive traffic to the post, but to summarize, he lists out various companies and projects that have been "cancelled" on account of abject bigotry from their leadership (i.e. the Brave browser), and then immediately launches into basically every right-wing talking point you've ever heard about this, from "separate the art from the artist" to "pick your battles".
I'm wary of anyone telling me to "pick [my] battles", especially if they're implying I should drop one particular issue, because odds are high they just want me to pick battles that don't implicate *them* quite so directly.
I wouldn't care much except that my own FOSS project lives there, and really there's no ignoring what a shithead the owner is now. Welp, there goes my morning.

Wake up babe, a new litmus test for identifying your very shittiest friends just popped up this week.
After commenters on Twitter rambled about how only "woke" game devs use game engines, Godot jokingly [embraced the idea](https://x.com/godotengine/status/1839656658932306395 ) with a little rainbow flag (🌈) emoji.
Since then, they've been hammered by reactionary bullshit. People yelling at them to keep politics out of their game engines, telling them that software dev is inherently apolitical, and bigots raiding their Discord and spewing hate, prompting a lockdown of their community.
One of their moderators posted this week that their little post was entirely apolitical and uncontroversial except to some of the shittiest people on the planet, and I'm really inclined to agree.
Some people's entire lives have been declared "political", and reactionary chuds pushing the "no politics in software" are doing everything they can to ensure we never speak about these people or their contributions to the ecosystem.

Me: Ok a fix for it is in our nightly rolling release, if you don't mind, can you update and confirm it fixes things
User: No I refuse to use your rolling release, it's too unstable, you should ship it in stable
Me: Fine then you can get it on the next stable release
User, on the next stable release: this didn't solve my problem at all, who the hell tests this shit, why do you ship broken software
