I spend a lot of time on BlueSky & I see 2 typical reactions:
POC often say "Nope too much crypto-racism". I was here in 2022 & saw how a lot of them were aggressively driven away after migrating from Twitter, so I get that.
White middle class intellectual people OTOH respond with derision. Basically, fedi is uncool. If there are reasons they're varied, but the one constant is that it's uncool, for very white middle class American jr high school values of 'uncool.'

The main thing #Murderbot gets from the PresAux team is the understanding that it is a person, not equipment. And a person can make its own choices. From the last chapter of All Systems Red, every bot Murderbot meets is sentient and displays some degree of agency - it wasn't able to really understand its world that way before being treated as a person by the team.

I don't know how much traction it got. I think at least a lot of Texans know you can't first respond your way out of a flash flood. Also Abbot's 'teamwork' bullshit is meant to cover his ass, but it does provide at least some cover down the food chain.

I like when colloquialisms get a subtle change in meaning as the spelling changes. E.g. how 'toe the line' (be obedient) became 'tow the line' (meaning to offer help or participate in a solution). The meanings are related, so you could have *an* understanding of what's being said - but it might be subtly off from what's intended.

I don't think bubbles burst the same way anymore. I am convinced by the story people like Ed Zitron et al are telling that AI is a bubble & it will burst IN SOME SENSE - but I don't think that event will be as catastrophic as Ed et al believe, because VCs have learned to move the capital around in ways Marx never dreamed of. It takes things like trade wars or hardcore USian isolationism to really break economies these days.

If we think of it this way, art can be successful as an activity (i.e., at a personal level), without being successful as an externally-facing activity (see Chris' examples).
Similarly we can reduce the confusion over the differences between art-as-cultural-artifact & art-as-artists'-work.

Primary way we define 'art' is by marking it as an elite expression, yes.
I've often proposed a way of defining art which I think avoids that: As what we do in attempt to reconcile how we think the world should be, with what we find it to be.
If we define it that way, a lot of everyday human activities become art. (Note that the only person we need to perceive it, in my view, is the person creating it.)
We can still use labels like 'elite art' or the like.

Why not both? For people like Trump or Gaetz the real crime is always that someone else is prosecuting them - that's the sense in which they're victims. They don't deny the crimes, except as an expedient; in the slightest of confidence, they'll happily tell you that they did it, & just don't think the law should apply to them.

also one has to be very careful when parsing how AI bros use the term "value." If he means 'valuation', sure, yeah, it might be trivial. (Especially if one assumes Line Go Up.) Or if he takes a Longermist perspective & presumes that it leads to creation of a trillion-trillion virtual humans - it's Longtermist dogma that 'future virtual lives' are 1:1 in value relative to current actual lives.

Bullseye. Wilhoit's Law is their TormentNexus-touchstone: any attempt by a non-Conservative president to leverage any of their rulings will be struck down for some new arbitrary reason. The resulting chaos of precedent creates a situation where they constantly need to make oracular interpretations.
Scenario I think we'll hear more about: Trump packing the court with conservatives, because Roberts demands more bodies to handle bigger case loads resulting from the chaos.

Can't tell you how many times I've pointed out continual decreases in crime & had people double, triple, nthple down on different reasons why it's not true - progressing from 'show me the stats' to 'those stats are bogus' to 'well my buddy's friend is a sherrif's deputy who said the FBI fakes its stats.' At the end of it all 'skyrocketing crime' is a key tenet in the religion of anti-modernism & folks will always find a way to pretend it's true.

Random observation: Photos I'm seeing today of American riot cops show them carrying straight-handle batons instead of the side-handle batons that have been more common.
Side-handle batons were adopted because they afforded ways of subduing suspects with reduced force. Also, side handles don't provide as much striking leverage, so are less likely to seriously injure people by striking.
Cops shifting back to straight batons could signal acknowledgement that their main goal is to hurt people.
